    questions

100 grams of protein!!!????? I would just die. I'm finding it really difficult to get 60 grams of protein per day.

1 day post op and scared

Your doc isn't worried that all of the PB'ing you're doing will cause your band to slip. I was given anti nausea meds before and after surgery, around the clock while in the hospital and given a script to take home. My doc was very adamant about the affects of PB'ing.

    3 days post-op: my experience

Oddly enough day 1 and 2 wasn't that bad, probably still high on pain meds. LOL Day 3-8 were challenging due to port pain, sore/swollen stomach, horrible gas, unable to sleep comfortably which added to my aggravation. I'm 10 days post op and I'm feeling almost back to normal. I'm back in school, working full time and most importantly---sleeping COMFY.

    Any September Banders?

Thanks for your concern Slim. Oddly, all of my incisions are almost heeled, no oozing or pus and certainly not hot to the touch. I'm guessing in my situation it's a case of "healing" quickly on the outside and not the inside. I have my post op tomorrow, I will definitely voice my concerns to my doctor.

    Any September Banders?

Hi all, I was banded on the 15th, so I'm just about a week out and my port site is ridiculously sore and tender. Has anyone else experienced this? It hurts to stand, walk, get out of bed or even sit. Any suggestions? Also it feels sooooo weird being able to feel it so clearly under my skin. It gives me the "willies".
  6. I went from no bowel movements to diarrhea then back to nothing, all within a week's time.

    Tips and Tricks

But how would the insurance company know? They can't verify anything after the fact b/c the patient would have lost weight. Again, I'm not justifying cheating...but you make it seem as if a rep from the insurance company will be there during your exam. :wink2:

    frequent hick-ups

I do and they're almost as uncomfortable as the gas pains. LOL

    Your NO-NO list

I'm only 2 days out of surgery...but I've "bookmarked" this page for later.
  11. -Walk and then walk some more -Stock pile Gas X and a variety of liquids or foods you can have -Be consistent with your pain meds -Drink/nourish your body even when you're not hungry. You need it to heal effectively.

    Swollen Tummy- How long?

I was banded on 9/15 and the only problems I'm experiencing is trying to sleep on my left side. I have to prop myself up with pillows, and get out of the bed very slowly. Compared to the gas pains.....the discomfort of my swollen stomach is a piece of cake. LOL

    Night before surgery

I had a half of deli sandwich (3 inches) with 5 Doritos's around 9 pm for an 11 o'clock am surgery. If that constitutes as 'pigging out' then I guess I did!

    Spending the night after surgery?

I was banded on 9/15 and was released today around 12 noon. My procedure was fantastic, however some doctors are more "conservative" than others. I was literally walking in 10-20 minute increments 6 hours after my surgery.
  15. I'm being banded on Monday as well and I'm a rack of nerves. I couldn't sleep b/c I was so anxious last night.

emotional after seeing before and after pics

Chicamam1 - I'm getting banded on the 15th as well. As with you, this site has been a great inspiration to me also. Here you will get the good, bad and the ugly -- but it's honest, candid and it will give you a honest prospective of what you're about to endure. Good luck!

I'm so ashamed, I need a pep talk!!

Don't beat yourself up over it. Consider it a lesson learned and remember, quitting involves never getting back on the "horse" to ride it again. You certainly do not sound like a quitter in my book.

    Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!

I agree with your post entirely Stevegoad! It's seems to me folks are expecting a handout or to be an exception to normal policies. I see nothing wrong in asking (hey you would never know until you do) but to boycott the establishment altogether is a little childish IMHO. I have 2 small children and after years of ordering chicken nuggets, pizza, or a hamburger; I certainly wouldn't lose sleep or threaten to write letters if they tell me no.

    Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!

Excuse my bluntness, but that's a heap of crap. You're not paralyzed, blind, etc and your "disability" is the result of an elective surgery. I don't see anything wrong with a restaurant not allowing "us" to order from the kids menu. 9 times out of 10 there's an age restriction or disclaimer on the menu. Instead of being petty and stubborn - we need to realize everyone isn't going to bow down and be sympathetic to our needs. The adult thing to do - would be to order from the regular menu and in knowing your limitations, you would automatically ask for a to-go box. Your sense of entitlement b/c you elected to reduce your stomach to 4oz is a little bewildering to say the least.
  21. My surgery date is 9/15 and I will return to work on 9/23. 8 days total with 6 days off from work.

    Any September Banders?

I'm being banded on September 15th and have started my modified liquid diet on Sept 2nd. I'm on day 4 of my 2 week diet and TODAY so far has been the best day. *I'm hanging in there*

    Liquid Diet-help!!!

I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet, and I swear day 2 was the hardest. I don't agree that the cravings are "in your head", your body is physically withdrawing from simple sugars, carbs, etc. To help me thru the cravings and physical symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, mood swings, (I actually cried b/c my husband was late picking me up and I hadn't eaten since 1:00 pm..lol), etc; I chewed gum, walked for fresh air, and found ways to occupy my time. It helped tremendously.

Pre-Op Liquid Diet - does everyone have to do this?

My BMI is 40% and I'm REQUIRED to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks. My surgery is scheduled for Sept 15th, so I started my modified liquid date on Sept 1st. I can have one meal with lean protein, one snack, and non starchy veggies but the other "meals" are Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks. I feel a little dizzy at times and I have a constant headaches. Has anyone experienced these symptoms?
