    May 2023 surgeries

At my 2-week post op group class with the surgeon’s nutritionist at Miami UHealth, we were told to increase our water/liquid intake significantly. 3liters for those 200-250, and 3.5liters for 250-300. 1 liters is equivalent just over 33 ounces. I’m not there yet, but I can generally take in 80 ounces with no problem. On another note I lost 9 pounds the first week and have been in a full stall for two weeks. I really hope it ends soon, but I feel good and am being patient to see weight loss after a period of healing.

@LindsayT Here is a photo the one I purchased. I like it. Truly unflavored and it mixes in well. Not grainy. The protein count for the scoop size is great. I put a K-cup next to the scoop in the photo. I also use a half scoop frequently to add 11grams.

    May 2023 surgeries

I'm ten days out from VSG with a esophageal hernia repair. I did need to take Tylenol for pain for seven days, and I'm happy to be pain free now. Luckily, I was able to take 50oz of fluid from the beginning - and I am now up to 75+oz. Honestly, I was more worried about that than food restriction, because I have always loved drinking water. All of the sweet protein shakes and waters have put me off sweet tastes and I have been experimenting. I've been adding GenePro unflavored protein powder to everything (there is one with 22 grams of Protein for a small scoop). I'm in the pureed stage with meat now (I know - but my University's lead surgeon allows on his diet plan) and I have enjoyed cream of malanga soup with one very soft scrambled egg and today I made a kind of blended chicken tzatziki soup with cucumber, cottage cheese, chicken and dill, plus a little water. I'm so happy! 4oz had 21gr of protein. I also love spices, but I'm taking it slow. I have a couple of finishing salts with truffle or lemon/fennel. Just the lightest sprinkle makes a big difference to my tastebuds. And FlavorGod's Gingerbread cookie topper mini-sprinkles gives a zing to all the protein yogurt I've been eating. I hope this helps some people looking for ideas to get away from the sweet tastes. I've also switch off premade protein shakes and back to Iconic brand protein powders. They taste be mild and not sweet, so once you get to the 8oz of liquids I recommend it. I have been getting out to do errands before I go back to work next week, however I haven't really started walking with exercise in mind. It's time to start today. I'm nine pounds down and very happy I made the decision for WLS. 59 since starting this journey with the Bariatric Center in November. I'm a foodie, and I was worried about not being able to enjoy foods in the future and I'm incredibly happy I am on the way to good health. On that note, I was taken off a blood pressure med and a statin by my GP yesterday. THAT was a win! For any of you who are having more challenges after your surgery. Hang in there! My heart is with you because I know that could be any of us.

You’ll do great @la.nena! Five kids and births, and it sounds like you are prioritizing your health. Like you, I have had autoimmune issues and I didn’t want diabetes to become the fourth. Envision how great you will feel and be after and why you are doing this. Good luck!

Leaving the hospital now. No nausea at all and I am able to meet my diet requirements. The hernia was repaired with one stitch, and I was told there would be some inflammation there for a bit - so it does hurt a bit when I swallow larger pills. I hope everyone who had surgery yesterday or last week is doing well.

I was out of surgery about 8 hours ago and have been feeling relatively well. My pain from gas is actually in my shoulder and neck. Very little in my abdomen so far - or the pain meds are covering any pain there. Surprisingly, the doctors took care of a small hernia in my esophagus too - I’ll find out more tomorrow or when the notes upload to my E chart. So far I have been able to consume 6oz each of veg broth, beef broth, water, and protein water. Trying the jello now, verrry slowly - now I understand being able to eat only very little bites of something that is two ounces.

@CarolineLittle Thank you for being a cheerleader and organizer for us May-surgery pals! I have one more day to go. Good luck to you in two days! I go in for a weigh in tomorrow and I think I’ll be down 13 pounds of the expected 20 (7%) however that puts me at almost 50 down since November - and I think it will be a good place. I can’t believe I’ve lost 13 in 13 days. Good luck to my May 9 buddies - @Ana83 @flasandollar @theProcess and @SNEESE

I started the pre-op diet on Friday and it's going better than I expected. My doctor requires three protein shakes and one from a selection of meals, like 3oz chicken and one cup of veggies, Bistro Salad, or Healthy Choice Cafe steamers meal, for example. 800 calories total per day. At my weight, I am expected to lose 20 pounds in two weeks. Fingers crossed!
