    Pain after surgery?

I’m 9 months sleeve post op and if I remember correctly they sent me home with hydro morphine. I was getting such bad headaches daily and would last 12 hours. Finally read the side affects of the pain meds and headache or migraine is on the list. I stopped taking it right then and went back to Tylenol after maybe day 3. I think being dehydrated also contributed to headaches as getting enough fluids at the beginning is a challenge. I was also give the self injection shot to help prevent blood clots. I think headaches are also a side affect of that drug. I finish led the 10 day course of injections but so glad to be off it. I agree with another member the gas pain is the worst part of it coming out of surgery. It took a few days for it to finally leave my abdomen and was the most painful part. After that managing pain was very tolerable with Tylenol. Just remember it gets easier every day and take it one step at a time!

    Kids meals!

Chipotle has the best kids meals! I skip the rice but add a protein, beans, and a pick a vegi usually the corn or pico de gallo. Baby bag of chips holds about 8 tortilla chips. I usually don’t eat the tortillas.

  4. I just met with my surgeon yesterday for my 6 mo post op visit. I brought up this same question as my sagging skin is becoming more apparent as I continue to lose (at 90 lbs lost). He said that most insurance will pay for this procedure as a cause of Bariatric surgery and done by a plastic surgeon. He mentioned that you need to first lose all the weight, then maintain that weight for at least 6 months, before they would approve the surgery. He stated arm or leg skin surgery would not be covered but tummy tuck was. I was hopeful to hear this although I have not gone through the process yet to vet the accuracy. I’m sure it depends on your specific insurance plan benefits and worth a call.

    Over 50 sleevers

I’m 53 and sleeve surgery date was 1/9/23 so about 5 months post op. So far lost 78 lbs with a few stalls along the way. Longest was 3 weeks (painful wait!). Weight loss has slowed down some but still consistently 2 lbs week sometimes more. I average 900 calories per day and goal of 80 grams protein sometimes I hit more. My doc suggested I increase protein intake and fluids. I never miss fluids 64-70 oz day. I’ve found my meals are pretty consistent and predictable and honestly don’t stray too far in my choices yet. I’m full at 5oz but can eat 6oz. Anything over that in one sitting is too much. I don’t really snack and just eat 3 meals a day. My one concession is 1/2 TBS peanut butter in late evening when I start to feel hungry before bed. Nice treat and curbs the hunger. I have another 70 lbs to lose and look forward to the day when I can eat 1200 calories a day! It’s a journey but feeling great. The biggest bummer is sagging skin and a sad reminder of how I got here in the first place. I’m sure changes in our hormones affect the swings of weight loss along the way but overall I’m convinced we just need to stay the course and it will fall off.

    Stall

Hang in there and keep your eye on the long term prize! I am feeling your pain and currently struggling with 10 day stall at 4 1/2 months post op. This is probably my 3rd stall so far. I’ve lost 70 lbs (includes pre and post op) so know I’m on the right track. Its hard to mentally keep things in perspective when we depend on the daily encouragement of seeing the scale drop. If it doesn’t move I have to fight the mental battle that I’m failing. Im still learning how to not completely obsess over the weight loss and allow myself to enjoy where I’m at today. It’s hard to do! I find great encouragement from those on this site who are veterans at this point and have experienced everything before. I have to trust their wisdom and keep to my eating plan and track my food intake religiously. I admit I find it very difficult not to weigh-in daily. That is my challenge for sure but I do measure every 4-6 weeks. I’ve been so surprised to see how many inches I’ve lost each time. I encourage you to get a soft measuring tape! Also take weekly photos. I upload them to my Baritastic app and amazed to scroll backwards and see how far I’ve come.

    ROBOTIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I also had the Da Vinci robotic sleeve surgery and it went perfectly. There is a lot on YouTube so check it out. The doctor is in complete control the entire time in fact he is manipulating all the instruments. He sits at a high definition console and manipulates the instruments with movements of his fingers, hands, and wrists. He can see everything through the camera and is working closely with his surgical team in the room. The robotic instruments executing the procedure can rotate and move in more ways than a human hand. There are more tools working at the same time all controlled by the surgeon. It’s a fascinating watch on YouTube. My surgery was over in 45 min and incisions small looked very much like the previous poster. Don’t be afraid it’s cutting edge technology and if your surgeon is trained on it then I think that a bonus!

    Constipation

My Dietician recommended Smooth Move Tea with Senna and it really helps. I drink a hot cup in the evening after dinner every 2 or 3 days. It does get things moving next morning. You can find it at most grocery stores and is popular. Sometimes the shelf is out of stock. I’m 3.5 months post op and not regular yet.
  11. I’m 3.5 months post sleeve surgery and my hair shedding started right at 3 months! I always take my Bariatric daily Vitamins and also collagen Protein Powder daily. It is nerve racking when it happens but I know it will grow back. Just part of the process and patience is key!

    Protein shots

Yes…LOVE the Protein Shots! I buy from Batiatric Pal have tried both the 15 gram and 25 gram whey protein (both 3 oz). I add them to a 16-24 oz water bottle so also get more fluids and tastes great. You can drink the shot alone but it’s pretty tart but very tasty. Great way to add more protein to your day. Throw one in your bag for days you need a boost or busy and not sure when you’ll get your next meal in. Good for travel days too just add to Water. Highly recommend.
