  1. I don't really have a recipe.. I used to make my own when I was on broths after I had lap band.. then I continued to make it when I knew I would need larger batches when cooking. I take all the makings of soup.. veggies.. meat.. spices.. etc.. and cook it all together and then strain out the liquid. When you get to mushies.. you can use the veggies from the Soup and smash them/puree them up etc.

  2. The problem with broths too.. is the sodium level so be sure to check that. As far as if you bought the right stuff.. I would think if it said chicken broth.. it was.. but it might not have tasted that great because it may have been more geared toward cooking with it (like holiday cooking.. large birds etc). Swanson might not be a good brand for sipping. I usually make my own broths so not sure how much help I can be with recommending specific brands but I know the cubes tend to have a lot of sodium so if you go that route.. get the low sodium ones :)

  3. So I figured I would just jump right in with everyone and tell my story :). (I’ll try to put it all in a nutshell!)

I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I hit my highest weight after having my daughter in 2007. I weighed in at 318 pounds. In 2008 I was able to get down to about 250 pounds and could not get any more weight off and opted for the LapBand surgery.

I got down to 220 pounds in April of 2010 and wasn’t able to get any more off when I got pregnant with my son. I had my son in December of 2010 and was up to nearly 280. I am currently at 260 now and after talking to my doctor, I have decided to go with a revision and have my LapBand removed and have RNY surgery.

I am also dealing with some gall stones as well so I will be having my gall bladder removed. After talking it over with my doctor, he is going to try and do it all in one surgery. So I will be having my LapBand removed, have my gall bladder taken out and if all goes well with those, he will perform the RNY right then. I am set to have surgery at the end of June. An exact date is not set in stone but I wanted to wait until my daughter is out of school so I had no worries about finding her a way to and from school. So sometime around June 21st-25th I will be having my surgery.

After talking it over with my hubby and my doctor, we feel this is the best route to take and after talking to my doc I am really surprised how much of the wrong information I was told about RNY, so I am happy to have a great doc who sat with me through all of my questions. So I am excited and scared about having the revision. Excited, because of obvious reasons that we all share, and scared for probably some of the same reasons. I am considered a failed lap band patient and that is something that is hard to take. The doctor did a good job of explaining to me that it wasn’t entirely my fault on why the lap band did not work out for me, that it just isn’t the right fit for some people. So, yeah, that is where I am at now. Very excited about the RNY in June and very scared at the same time.

Would love to talk to others who have had the revision from band to RNY to see how recovery was. I am an American living in Kuwait right now and unfortunately there aren’t really any support groups out here so I am hoping to find a nice home here and find the support that I need :).

  4. I think you should talk to your surgeon before taking anything. I know you said your a week out so there could be a number of things it could be. I know when you are just out of surgery.. pneumonia is a concern.. with you being a week out it's prolly not that but better safe then sorry.

I had to cough a few times a few days after surgery.. just a weird tickle in my throat..so painful.. definitely find out if you can take something to help you stop coughing.

  5. this is a very tricky situation. first of all.. I am so sorry he said this to you.. something like that can stay with someone forever and for it to come from someone you love so deeply is unacceptable.

Ok.. giving him the benefit of the doubt... was he joking when he said it? (not that is is a joking matter).

You said that you both are brutally honest with each other (my hubby n i are too). sit him down and tell him how it made you feel and let him know you cannot let go of it. Ask him to explain to you why he would feel this way and why he felt it was acceptable to say something so hurtful.

I know you love him and dont want to leave him.. but this situation really needs to be talked thru. He needs to know how much he hurt you.

I hope you are able to work thru this.. it is not a good feeling to be put in that kind of situation

    *hugs*

  6. GREAT JOB! I know it's gotta feel good. It's gotta feel great to know you are healthier!

On March 28, I began my pre-op diet at 319lb, 474-triglycrides, 230-chol. level, high blood pressure, severe gout. I had surgery on April 11...

Its now September 11 and I weigh 219lbs, 77-triglycrides, 130-chol. level, normal blood pressure and my gout meds have been reduced by 75%!

Those of you considering lapband AS A TOOL TO ASSIST YOU in weight loss should give it serious consideration. It has been the greatest experience in my life. I have 50lbs to go but I'm snowballing downhill towards that goal.

Something you guys might find interesting, my "sweet spot" was simply the band...I haven't had a fill!

Good luck to everyone and keep working toward your goals!
