Does Banding Work if you're over 50?

Kotchy, i was banded last December, at age 58. I have lost 97#, so far. Need to lose about 73# more. I have health issues , as do others who are younger and it goes a bit slower. We work around them. I'm more active now than when I was 2 years ago. Do IT- for you!! My Dh refuses and his health is not the best.

    Overloaded

Well, DD was hospitalized with Depression over Labor Day. She quit school. Now She is home, enrolled in the local Com College, given regular deadlines, including bedtime. I am ready to scream! I try to get her to join a exercise/fitness place but it's my idea , so it must be bad. :mad2:I am so angry at her. Meanwhile I am coping at work; my duties were cut in half Friday. I am looking for another job but it is slim pickings. My health issues mean I have to stick to major business and government. Meanwhile I have lost weight - considering my response to such stress it to eat- this is good.

    Lost Too Much Weight

Umystifyme, It is hard, the time frame is not set in stone. It can be the longest a case takes to an average. Just wait. You have several co-morbidities, which will help your argument. You will know by Halloween. Even staying at a stable weight now does not mean you will lose the request. Hold on, pray, think positive thoughts. If there is a WLS group in your area, I'd urge you to talk with them. We can tell our our experiences across the country, but someone you see face to face may help. Good Luck. BTW, Your surgeon, or others in this site may be able to direct you to attorneys who do this. ( if you need an attorney, some initial appeals only need more information - been there done that)
  12. CareBear, Some #s are more difficult than others. Remember, you have lost 40# that won't come back!! and Every loss is a win !! My own Mantra is reminding myself how much I've lost and how much more I have tolose. And I am starting to remind myself the chocolate/sweet/ ice cream tastes good but do i really want to deal with the negative thoughts, :crying:depression, and cravings later- it helps.

    TURKEY DAY Challenge 2009

Hi, I am still in it but no loss this week. I have increased my exercise but maybe not enough. Will keep on keeping on.
  15. Ann, i went through this also in August. Did they check how much was in the band at your last fill? i went for my 5th fill and c/o of being hungry all the time. They removed what was in the band. it was supposed to be 6.5+cc but was really 4.2 cc. i was told it leaked out, which is normal. The doctor filled the band to 5.5 cc and i did feel a restriction, again. Maybe you need to have the doctor check how much is in your band. i know it is rough and i beat myself up also. You are not alone.

Labor Day Wt loss Challenge- Sept. 7th

Libbyjane, Congrats? You still lost weight!!. We all did, Every loss is s win!!
  21. Hello,

Do take care of yourself. Keep in touch on the forums!! Wish you the best.

  22. JWhipple, I am so sorry for this to have happened. :sad:It does sound like she has more than a few problems, she expects someone else to fix. She may be one of those people who has to hit bottom before they seek help to change themselves. The best way to help her is not to help. You are someone with insight and the ability to deal with problems, even seek help when needed. :thumbup:That is a MAJOR PLUS.You can get through this, but you must focus on you. You still need to take care of you. If you were a Chick, I'd suggest watching the movie "1st Wives Club", and enjoy your favorite treat/ comfort food ( even with the band you can have a little- suggest buying only a small quantity), or have good cry, exercise, beat up a pillow or inanimate object. VENT your feelings.( i used to get in the car and say all the things I wanted to say to/ about whoever was causing me grief.- just not while driving) If you have a favorite FUNNY movie, now is the time to watch it. - Do something to vent your feelings on/ with/through. Do see an attorney and a counselor to help you sort through this. Sounds like you have been abused emotionally and financially, in this whole experience. You have been given a lot of stress to deal with all at once and seek help is a good step . You need to find other connections and people to be with. Go contact your daughter. Sounds Like you are a Good Father , too ( Another PLUS) I don't know what type of relationship you have with her Mom, but if it is amicable, let her know what you are going through. If not, how about other friends or co-workers at your old or new job. There are usually self- help groups for everything- even parents without partners, or those going through a divorce. The phone book often lists contacts for such groups. If you go to a church, maybe the minister/pastor can help. I am glad you have a job and see this as better than before. Do look to other posts here and focus on you. Keep in touch. You are a smart, intelligent person, with good insight into yourself, and the ability to change. Apologies, if you dislike the emoticons ( I'm kind of hooked on them)
  23. All, I made My August goal by the 31st of 230#, I was at 229#, (finally met one) My Goal for Sept is 5# to 224#. Last week i lost 2 # , So am heading the right way , again!!

And deseve your friends praise! i hear more from, those who don't see me all the time but it is so nice. Am in a size 20 pants (from size 36/5X) and size 22-24 top ( from a size 5x/ 44). My weight loss is slow and in spurts, but the sizes and NSVs keep coming. Strolled 3.5 miles at the fair one day (could not go 1/2 block a year ago).

    Lost Too Much Weight

Seriah, You need to ask your doctor about weight loss surgery. You sound like a candidate. You may qualify with a lower BMI due to co-morbidities (i.e. heart problems).sleep apnea, diabetes, etc. Do it for yourself.
