Fat my entire life, will it work?
sue in ne replied to nlawlor341's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
nlawlor, sounds like a pity party- we've all been there. I know how you feel, been ther, done that, then took a step back. If you were obese since the age of 8, before that you were "normal". When you get the restriction. and you can focus on the rest of your life , not food, you will have a different perception. When i get the munchies, I take a walk, go to bed, avoid the kitchen, go to the gym, find something to do, drink something (Have to wait then) - try it, just for an hour, delaying it can make it pass. Look at the big picture. My BMI was higher than your at the start, I went from a BMI of 60 to 42 today, almost 1 year out. Focus on something other than food- I know you say you are hungry, but drink more fluids. Good Luck!! -
Fat my entire life, will it work?
sue in ne replied to nlawlor341's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NLAWLOR, You are not alone. I was an average weight when born but overweight my entire life. Even when I lost weight, I was still obese. I am shorter than average so my max weight was only 320 #. i had a delay in my 1st fill also. It is frustrating but you will do fine. I ended up waiting 3 months due to insurance snafus. Went from 320# at the start to 217.5# today, Still am morbidly obese by all the charts but so much healthier, and for the 1st time I feel like I can handle all the bumps on the way; I'm not done yet!! -
Welcome to where every loss is a win!! Congrats! Rest when you feel like it as much as possible. Good luck

Jolly, IF they haven't seen me in a while, they notice.I tried hanging onto some items, too but at work i kept hearing I needed new clothes ( Wearing 4X jacket when I was a 2 X) It is a rush to realize something doesn't fit anymore. I understand the size thing, in a way - I'm only 5-1; was almost at big around as I was tall. Admittedly, it is easier to shorten items than to lengthen them.

Frustrated with 1-2lb weight loss rate?
sue in ne replied to gnortenjones's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1-2 # a week is NORMAL!!!. This is still lots better than before when I'd lose 2 and gain 5. I am impatient, too. i try to up my exercise and that helps me focus on something else that actually helps. -
Husband doesn't notice weight loss
sue in ne replied to Humming Bird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Could be he has been there before. 6 yrs ago My DH waited til I dropped 100# till he commented. I gained it back and more, then had the band. Lost 100# again, no comment yet. -
Jollly Green, Good Luck but you may want to check out Good Will and other sources of gently used clothing even then. I had a 5X coat last winter ( pre surgery) . Am in a 2X coat now and still losing - next winter- who knows ( Hope it is smaller still)

Biggest Loser - What is your exercise routine
sue in ne replied to CSBinABQ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In Feb My plans were ambitious. Had trouble with schedules but still do the Sports Club and walk (Aerobically) at least 1-2 mile, 4 days /week. -
Umystifyme, Relax, :cool:We all had the class. It is important. I had a 3 hr class I had to have before surgery (Luckily I found out about it 1 hr before the last class started If I wanted surgery as scheduled)- and I left work to go. ( My surgeon scheduled the surgery once they got the insurance OK but there was a gap before they told me about the class). It is very helpful. People ask questions you may not have though of. You will get information for preparation and the operation. (Mine included the nurses from the Surgeon's Office, the Bariatric Support Group, dietitians with the the program). Every surgeon does it differently, so follow your surgeon's directions. Good Luck!

It's productive belching. It is belching, as the stuck food dislodges. It can lead to vomitting, but not always
-
umystifyme, Good Luck  Do check on how long there will be a restriction on lifting. My surgeon said no more than 5# for 30 days. I found I felt better before that, but when I tried to lift simple things ( about 5+#) I knew it was too much :smile2:( The stomach muscles for lifting are sore from the surgery.)
-
Yep, I find it better to throw up than to wait until it dissolves.( reduces sliming) i end up with tears in my eyes when it gets stuck.

How low can you go in 09 weightloss challenge#1
sue in ne replied to china's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi ALL, Still at 219 But that is better than 320!!!I lost a few # at once so it will be a while before I lose more. That's OK. -
umystifyme, i was off 6 days, but I was ready to go back after 4 days. It took longer because I needed to get a note from the surgeon to return to work. -because i may have been out for 5 + days, my work place required a note with an estimate how long I'd be out; needed the 2nd note to return early. The surgeon estimated 2 weeks; i know of several people who came back to work after only a few days. Remember, no lifting more than 5 # - that may bother you more as a cashier. Do rest as much as possible. It isn't just the surgery, but also the anesthesia that will wear you out.:w00t:
