    Non-Scale Victories Thread

HI All, Another NSV or two- down 2 more sizes in clothing. Slacks i bought 2 weeks ago (fit well), are too loose now. ( Am running out of clothes that fit!) Not quite out of plus size clothes. Also did 2 + hours in the garden - before I could barely do 30 minutes w/o having trouble breathing.

Labor Day Wt loss Challenge- Sept. 7th

Kaninag, What I meant about back to basics was checking portions again. Remember when you first started on regular foods? It was 1/2-1 cup of food for the entire meal, and maybe 1 snack, esp. if short on protein. I realized I was extending my evening meal expecting to feel full - I wasn't getting the sensation of full- only too full; "Just a taste" became a regular snack. I was trying to see how much I could get away with - so stopped. It was 'head hunger'. Am now eating about 850-1000 calories and 70-85 g of protein/day. i do use cottage cheese with 1 serving each of fruit and veg /day and lots of water. With exercise, it really is making a difference. I expect to increase the calories after a bit, when my exercise increases again.:shades_smile:At 236 this morning!
  3. J Whipple, I am sorry you are going through this. Life happens, whether we like it or not. They say the surgery and weight loss changes everything- including the relationship with your spouse. It is true. If she isn't taking her meds, and still goes through mood swings, sounds like she has something more than depression. There may be a silver lining to this (but it's hard to see, right now) Yes it hurts, but you need to focus on you. GET an attorney and change your accounts at the bank. If her name is on an account, she can empty it. YOU need to check with the attorney, child support office with your state Welfare agency or County Attorney. They can make adjustments to Child Support if you qualify. Do it ASAP- it isn't automatic. DO talk with your daughter- let her know you love her. ( REAL MEN honor their committments) Take to her Mom- let her know the stuation, too. And get moving. You need to do something. Apply for unemployment benefits, do volunteer work until you get a job ( it will help gain some perspective) Ther going is tough , you need to get going. Prozac can cause weight gain ( been there, done that), ED, and the sleeping. Anyone would be depressed in your situation. IT is short term. You can change. Good Luck!

    Contingent Denial Pending "Peer Conference"

Stay the course. You are doing fine. The insurance companies make the extra hoops so those who really can lose the little extra weight they have, don't do it instead of diet and exercise. There are surgery junkies, and hospital junkies and all kind of nuts out there who will think this surgery is for them. i initially had a denial based on insufficient information . (my current doctor has a file 3+ inches thick on me and that isn't everything !) The surgeon sent in more and it was approved, conditionally. ( standard practice for many procedures, not just bariatric surgery) After surgery, they had to again review all the costs and necessity- they paid in full, BTW.thought It was going to be only 80 %.
  5. Well, went back to basics , with the diet. Am at 238# :thumbup:Finally!!. Had hoped to be at 220, but life happens.:tongue_smilie:

    Insomnia

I tried Benadryl, per my doctor - and couldn't function during the day - :closedeyes:kind of a Jekyll /Hyde can't sleep but too tired to function. The doctor then recommended Tylenol PM- I was already taking Tylenol for other things during the day.

    vomiting and pain

Hi, Either way, the area around the band will swell from the vomiting/PBing. This may explain your soreness and the port site being noticeable. Drop back to liquids for at least a day then gradually re-reintroduce consistencies. Do check with your physician if it continues and occurs every time. - Been there, done this. had a sinus infection with significant drainage- it filled my stomach so I did this every meal. Mell of a hess.

    Insomnia

HI, There are a few over the counter things you could try. Tylenol PM works for some people. I find it very effective. Also, Melatonin is available over the counter; usually it is labelled as some sort of sleep aid . Do check with you pharmacist before you try these as some over the counter meds affect one's regular medication. I've used both successfully.- have to take prednisone with certain meds and can be up for 20 hours straight!!

  16. Maybe it's just the point in this process where the other tools have to work, too. I'm on prednisone again, and have gained 2 # since last Friday !at 242#

    Omg!! This is crazy!!

yes it is- but the feeling is also normal. How you deal with it now, may show your willingness to follow through after the surgery. The band is only a tool- you have to use it as only part of your weight loss plan. Take a deep breath and start working on the habits you will need post surgery- the chewing, the exercise,at least X amt of protein/day, only X specific snacks/day, - :nono:DO IT NOW!!! It will take your focus from what you are giving up (with the operation- stuffing yourself) and focus on what you will gain (more control). You will start exercising (walking) by day 2, so get started Consider starting the Pre-op diet early; Or approach it in stages. i did 1-2 meals a day from my pre-op diet, before I had to. Get the products and any equipment you will need (protein powder, chewable/liquid meds and vitamins, magic bullet etc) set up so they are easily accessible when you get home. You won't drive or go shopping on the way home,or for a few days post surgery. You have a lot to do before the surgery- no time to waste focusing on what you think you 'll miss. BTW, you will eventually be able to eat most items you liked before the surgery-just a lot less.

  25. monylove, it gets confusing. i , too was pre-approved and my surgeon had the authorization in hand. But i, too had a notice from the insurance company saying they had to determine if they would pay the claims. I also got bills that were denied. 1st, pre approval means you meet the criteria for thie funding the surgery. Once the surgery is done, the insurance company will go over everything to assure the necessity is the same. 2nd, i found the physician's bills were being denied. It turns out all bills related to the surgery are suspended until the case is reviewed and they don't review it until the hospital claims come in. Sometimes the claims are denied instead of suspended. I had the surgery 12/1/08 and just got the final notice from the insurance company yesterday. Your time frame for this is about the same as mine. I think it is a poor practice to deny instead of suspend a biller and why don't they notify the biller ?? Do Call the insurance company and find out about the bills that were denied and what is their process. Also, your surgeon's office can help you appeal any denial. (but I don't think that has happened )
