ByeByeBonBon replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PC broke down on me a few weeks ago, haven't been checking in. Ready to get started again tomorrow! CONGRATS to everyone, you're doing great! Quick edit, checked my original LD goal and I reached it this morning!! :scared2: 18lbs down, woo! Let's keep it going  -
What is your favorite non carbonated beverage?
ByeByeBonBon replied to ladybug on a mission's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Iced tea with a bit of frozen fruit for ice cubes, and ice Water with cucumber. Used to love Crystal Light pre-surgery, but now it gives me crazy indigestion. Soy and almond milk, especially the vanilla and chocolate flavors, are also very yummy, and good for mixing Protein powders if you use them. -

Aiming to lose 18lbs, Labor Day goal of 211lbs. Let's do this! -
Hey all! I was wondering if anyone had any information or experiences to share regarding plastic surgery procedures done through a residency program or teaching hospital. How to go about applying for surgery, any requirements you had to meet, cost, overall experience, etc. Any info would be much appreciated!

Is this normal??
ByeByeBonBon replied to tnewton8351's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most likely, it's just gas pains from the gas they pump into your body during surgery, and it's completely normal. I was banded two days after you, and while it has eased up a bit, I'm still having those same pains on and off. From what I've gathered, the gas relief medications don't work because the gas isn't intestinal, but sitting in your abdominal cavity. Generally, it's suggested to get up and walk around a bit to shake it loose. I've also read, and one of my nurses recommended, rocking gently in a rocking chair to help. We know how you feel -- it's definitely not the most pleasant feeling, but will be worth it in the long run :sneaky: -
Hey there, I've been checking out some bandsters around my age and found your profile -- your photos are amazing, you're gorgeous!

Sharp pains in the rib area??
ByeByeBonBon replied to STLMom2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would guess that you're having gas pains. I'm only three days out, but the gas pain I've had has been hellish. Try walking around a bit, or if you have a rocking chair, gently rock back and forth. That has helped me a bit with the pressure. -
Less than a week til surgery... hoooly crap! :cool2:

August 28, 2009 Band date!!
ByeByeBonBon replied to Moemoe455's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Meeeee! I know what you mean, it seems the days are going so slow... totally worth it, though! Are you on a pre-op diet? I started all liquids on Wednesday. I've been good, but my insides are another story -

The only people who know are my parents, my boyfriend, and his mom. I definitely don't plan on telling anyone else. I moved away from my friends a few years back and to be honest, we've drifted so far apart that I don't feel the need to share something as personal as surgery with them.

OK, Who has an AUGUST surgery date??!!
ByeByeBonBon replied to Jodi73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 28th  So excited! -
How long did your process take to get approval?
ByeByeBonBon replied to Tory09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My paperwork was submitted on the 5th, and this morning I received a call from my surgeon's office, letting me know I'd been approved. Wednesday is my pre-op consultation -- so excited! -
I can't believe it's nearly 2009 and people still have this type of mindset. It truly blows my mind.

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
ByeByeBonBon replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There's always the usual, "You have such a pretty face, if only you'd lose some weight." Then when you do knock off some pounds, "Slow down, fatty! Gettin too thin!" Just can't win lol The last salon I worked at, we had a particularly loud-mouthed receptionist, an older lady with enough problems of her own. I'd found out just a month or so before that she used to be extremely overweight her entire life, and apparently now that she was in her 50's, she was the only one in her family to get their weight under control. Her mouth, not so much! One day a few of us were sitting in the back on break, and I was complaining about how my foot was giving me problems that day from breaking in a new pair of shoes. Receptionist walks in on the tail end of me griping about the pain -- "Maybe you should see a doctor. He'll just tell you to lose weight, though." WHAT?! The two other girls who were back there with me just went silent, and I just looked at her and said, "...Mmhm." That was the end of the break lol Came back to edit this after thinking about some of your posts: Back in highschool (so long ago, lol), two girls who sat in front of me were talking to two guys who sat in front of them about how glad they were to be short (one was 5'0, the other maybe 5'2-5'3?), because when short people get fat, it's cute and they'd be so squishy and bouncy and rolly. No idea how the convo started or why it continued, but basically this went on for the last five minutes of class, an entire conversation about how short fat girls are cute, but tall fat girls are "beastly." Totally oblivious of me behind them, about 5'9, and was probably 280lbs at the time I just read a book, pretending not to hear, when one of the guys they were talking to silently motions to me. They turn around and quickly end their, um, serious discussion. We always got along great, before and after that, but then I was always wondering what was going through their heads when they'd see me -
A few days ago I called and found out that yes, the Band is covered by my insurer (Lucent, UHC Choice Plus), and the only requirements, I was told, were a BMI > 40 and/or co-morbidities and a five year history of weight loss. Currently I'm 5'8 and about 370lbs, with a BMI just under 57. Also, next week my blood work results come in, but at the moment I'm only aware of the beginnings of hypertension. My question is, what exactly have your insurers required as far as the five year history goes? Physicians records, just a personal list from yourself? Would having such a high BMI make approval more likely? I've lived in three states in the past five years and haven't been up to date with doctor visits. While I do generally remember my weight patterns, I'm not sure if I'll be able to present physical copies. Has anyone been in the same situation, or have any suggestions?

Hey everyone  Today on another forum I belong to, I brought up the topic of weight loss surgery. When people say things like this, it's so frustrating, ugh. Mind you, I'm not banded, but it is something I'm hoping to get the ball rolling on after I'm settled in from my move in the next month or so. Anyhow, on with the convo, their replies are bolded (just edited to add the end): ----- i refuse to do that and I'm probably bigger than you are. I exercise 5 days a week and eat less now. I know i can do it on my own. i can already see a difference in my body and it's only been 3 weeks. I wouldn't bet on that : I've been extremely overweight my entire life, have tried every diet, plan, pill, exercise since 7th grade -- I'm 21 now. I lose weight but always gain back more than I lost. My problem is I'm a severe overeater and as much as I try, it's extremely difficult for me to get it under control. Now I'm the biggest I've ever been and after a lot of research and reading, I really feel like the lap band is something that will help me get it under control. yea see i don't have a problem. I just like to eat. i'm 295lbs. how much you weigh? I'm 5'9 and ~350lbs. i'm 5'9" too. i used to be at 320 at one point. and i still lost it by doing exercise. i had just stopped at 290 and gained a bit but now i'm going to lose everything. I was down to 200 in the spring of 2006 after busting my ass, and now here I am. Just curious, are you against weight loss surgery in general or just for yourself? i'm really against it. i feel like if you can walk, you can exercise. people shouldn't rely on quick fixes. if you got to 200lbs and gained that much weight back, not to be rude, but do you honestly think you can just getting surgery is going to stop you from gaining weight back? I don't see this as being a "quick fix" as I have literally tried nearly everything to get my weight under control for about the past 10 years. Half of my life. And yes, I do honestly think that after being banded it will help me -keep- my weight in control. It restricts your intake, and like I said, that is my problem. I'm a member on the Lap Band Talk Forum and after seeing all the success stories, especially from people who have even more to lose than myself, I feel like this is the right thing for me. Agree to disagree? The thing is, i've seen so many people gain weight right back with that stuff. look at al roker or the chick from Wilson Philips (famous examples) it might restrict your intake but if you are an emotional eater, what's going to happen when you get depressed? the lap band isn't going to stop what's going on in your head. that's my big problem with it. people don't realize that the reason they over eat might be to cover up pain. Me, it's sheer boredom and just loving the taste of food. Now I know better. You can say the same thing about good old diet and exercise. The band is a tool to help you, not a miracle. The help along the way is what I need. the help with why you over eat is what you need first. not the band. once you figure that out, then do what you want. know what i mean? Like I said... I've tried everything, including mental help. then honestly, the lap band isn't going to work for you (...WHAT? who are you?! lol) you'll lose a lot of weight but probably put it back on again if you over eat. i don't know why you don't see what i'm trying to say here. i just don't want someone to go through an operation and then have it come out not how they planned. i care dammit! And I don't know why you don't see what I'm saying, and I'm sorry for that coming out rude if it did. The band KEEPS you from overeating. You attempt to eat more than what the fill allows, and you become sick. You're forced to eat only until you are full, which is typically very little. And I feel that once I do get to a satisfactory weight, if only by my own standard, I won't have the issue of overeating and will be able to exercise much easier than I am now. the thing is, if it completely worked, then no one would ever get fat again. i mentioned 2 people who it didn't work for and they had gastric bypasses. i just don't want it to happen to you. but if you feel like it'll work then i guess you should give it a shot. i'm sure you've looked at the risk and hope it goes well. ty  and ty for being civil. --- Sorry, just wanted to vent. I just don't get some people... :cursing: --Dyzzi

Anti-WLS discussion today ... sigh.
ByeByeBonBon replied to ByeByeBonBon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
BTW, I'm sorry if I came across sounding that the vomiting is what helps you lose weight. What I was trying to say is that the band restricts you from eating -- the obvious outcome being that, if you DO overeat, you will become sick. Also, I personally wouldn't consider myself an emotional eater. Not quite sure why or how the person responding to me assumed that was me, lol -
