    the Masqued Gall Bladder

you should seriously consider contacting an attorney in your area who handles medical malpractice to attempt to compensate for missed work, pain & suffering ... Most importantly, stay well!

    Feeling Dizzy

I actually had this happen this afternoon ... Inadequate hydration and a touch of diahrrea (sorry tmi, I know) so make sure you're hydrated!
  3. incipientesquire

Yeah Dont forget you will retain water!

I might actually hide my scale in the closet for the week, because the temptation to get on and find out how I'm doing (especially b/c I'm losing a lot in the beginning) is just driving me batty ... at well.

How do you know you are full?

I start to hiccup, personally ...

    Frustrated

Hello all, I was banded on the 8th, and maybe I'm being a bit of drama queen, but I'm just grumpy today, so I decided to vent. Apparently, I developed an allergy to milk. At first, I thought it was just an intolerance (I got gassy, nauseous, etc. when I had part of a milk-based Protein shake) and then today, I had a PureProtein shake and I actually broke out into hives (this was the only thing I had) ... I've been back at work for all of two days, I'm tired, I have no energy and I'm completely sick of drinking Protein Shakes (egg-white based or soy for that matter) ... I want to chew something! So in my little pique of rage, I scrambled some egg whites together softly and chewed really, really well ... they have stayed down for several hours, but my conscience (perhaps self preservation?) has kicked in and I'm worried I did something wrong. I'm supposed to be on 3 weeks of protein shakes, and pureed Soup. Any thoughts? Thanks much ...

    stuck food

Don't make yourself crazy, but be very careful ... I didn't chew my scrambled eggs sufficiently and I was very uncomfortable all day.
  7. I was banded on the 8th, and when I went in for my post op appointment Friday, my doctor said I could eat anything, as long as it could theoretically fit through a straw (no straws!!) ... so I went to town with my magic bullet, and I've had pureed soup of every flavor, along with my protein shakes. I think I took it a little far when I bought a spicy tuna handroll, put the spicy tuna (w/o the rice and nori) in the magic bullet and added some ponzu sauce to thin it out. It definitely stayed in and I didn't experience any side effects, but I hope I didn't hurt myself. I can start "mushies" on the 28th, and I'm looking forward to mashed sweet potatoes! And maybe more spicy tuna ... [update] I did something silly and tried to eat actual scrambled eggs ... it was extremely uncomfortable because I didn't chew well enough and shouldn't have had it at ALL ... oh well.

    Help Im Hungry!!

I was banded on the 8th as well and I had the same pangs when I'm not hydrated ... Just hang in there & remember why you're on this journey ... Stick with it!

    I feel like crap

For me (banded on the 8th) nothing helped as much as walking, even if I couldn't go too far ... it helped to move the gas around. I am lucky in that my pain is currently relegated to my left abdominal wall. Makes driving (also 2 hours home from my parents') not so fun. I will try to do that tomorrow, and I may take a break and walk around a little too.

    Time Off From Work

My surgery was on the 8th, and I was only supposed to take a week, but at the post-op appointment, my surgeon wrote the return to work letter for this Wednesday because I still can't drive and was having problems getting around. I'm an attorney for the government, so I can (and will) take the extra time off ... it just doesn't make sense to me to go back to work at 60-70%, so I'm going to wait until I can be truly productive and then I'm not lifting, pushing or pulling anything other than a desk calendar

    Just an update

Hey Cindy, I had surgery the same day and my post-op experience is very similar ... it's actually my left side that hurts but surgeon/PCP claim it should go down in about four weeks or so. Whoo hoo.

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

I was banded on the 8th, and my surgeon said I can eat anything as long as it's pureed consistency. Nothing tastes as good as pureed Progresso, honestly. Different surgeons and dietcians make different recommendations, so I don't know if there's something your surgeon has a specific concern about. If you're starving, call the doctor (or the on-call doctor, I guess, since it's Sunday ...) -- don't suffer needlessly. Good luck!

4 days out - First time Nausea

I had surgery on the 8th. I went in Friday for my post-op appointment and asked the surgeon exactly the same question ... he said that b/c of all the narcotics and anesthesia and the reduced amount of "solid" foods, I probably won't have much BM right away. I was told to include more Fiber to my diet ... I suggest either benefiber or "soy milk plus fiber" to bulk up as it were. If you're uncomfortable, call the doctor and ask their advice. He told me if I got uncomfortable to take some fleets and it would move things along, so to speak.
  14. I had mine less than a week after surgery too! Dumb luck, I guess ... ah well. I've noticed that it's been pretty mild, and I took lortab earlier for abdominal pain and it seems to have killed the cramps. Whoo hoo.

    Flatulence

I'm going ok with the gas, now that I stopped drinking milk and consume stuff slower, luckily my family and my boyfriend don't mind these things ... and I am told that it's not forever...

4 days out - First time Nausea

I was also banded on the 8th, and I can say that I get nauseous when I smell things (cigarettes, yeast, deep fried foods, etc.) and also I had milk and that made me very gassy and nauseated. Call the doc and switch pain meds ... I love my liquid lortab!

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

yeah I was in the same boat until I went in today for my post op when the surgeon said I could progress to pureed Progresso. That felt better than soy protein or egg white protein shakes! Looking forward to pureeing things from the Eating Well cookbook.. I'm still a little sore near the port but that's about it. Back to work Wednesday!
  18. my surgery was also the 8th & I came home the morning of the 9th. I've learned a few interesting things ... Put yourself on a schedule of sorts or it's impossible to fit the water/protein intake in. I'm actually hungry today for the first time since the clear liquids preop on Sunday. Thank heaven for boyfriend & the 'rents who've been good about picking up all the stuff I dropped on the floor and to put my shoes on! Time for a shake! Take care!

    Protein Shake Taste Test Results

magic bullet is totally worth the $ ... It's much easier to clean too. I like metrx protein plus & was myoplex lite so far .... There are some at vitamin shoppe that are clear with 45-50 gms of protein ... 2 days post op and I might be up to a field trip to vitamin shoppe today. Lortab is your friend!
  20. Does anyone else feel like they're nesting a little? I felt a little silly setting up exactly where I'm putting the Protein powders and the Jello and everything else (I'm on a liquid diet for three weeks afterward) ... and packing a bag to take to the hospital Monday morning, etc. Also, I've had several rounds of sushi the past few days (my favorite), but I don't necessarily want a huge "last meal" with my fam, the bf and his fam ... has anyone else had to deal with this?
  21. incipientesquire

Anyone else have a "bad" EKG? I failed!!!

I can only imagine how upsetting that must be ... it sounds like with some additional testing, you might still be a good candidate, so hang in there!

    Band Name Game

Ok, shrink is hysterical ... perhaps Spot? For the port? I also name everything, cars, stuffed animals, computers, etc. My new otter from the Monterey Bay Aquarium is "Harry Otter"
  23. I'm having surgery the 8th and on the 7th, I'm supposed to have a "reasonable" Breakfast and then Clear liquids the remainder of the day. My boyfriend took me to Monterey this weekend, and we went to his friend's wedding Saturday night. I had been eating less, and during the weekend, we ate different types of rich foods. At the time, I was like, "eh, it's a wedding." It definitely caught up with me on the way home and I've felt very lethargic since we got here. Oof. In other news, I'm a klutz and cut myself Friday, necessitating a tetanus booster and my arm is swollen from that. I don't think that's going to affect it, but I'm definitely going to tell the surgeon Wednesday at our pre-op. Between my physician, urgent care and the pre-op appt with the surgeon, I've gone to the doc 3 times in 2 weeks  Looking forward to continued Protein shakes this week ... new flavors to try! Has anyone gone to two Protein Shakes a day and just dinner?
  24. I think I told everyone in my office (it's relatively small) and it's starting to backfire ... everyone's trying to be very supportive, but if one more person asks me how much I think I'm going to lose, I might hurt someone. My friend at work who's about 6 months pregnant sympathizes because everyone wants to discuss her body, too. It's kinda nice.

    no pre op liquid diet?

I lost 10 pounds in the past 3 weeks or so, since I scheduled my surgery ... we didn't have a specific pre-op diet at Cedars in Los Angeles, but the dietician suggested I try integrating the shakes for breakfast ...
