  5. I had lap band with Dr. Kuri in Dec 08'. He is fabulous and the facilities are beautiful and the staff is very friendly. It was like a mini vacation going there by the way that we were all treated. You are in very good hand.

    Surgery in Mexico

I went to see Dr. Kuri in December and since I have lost 30+lbs. Another gentleman that went when I did has lost 70+ lbs. We were all very impresses with Dr. Kuri and all of his associates. His facilities were state of the art. and by that I mean there were nice marble floors in the hospital and hardwood floors in the room. Everything was spotless. They picked us up at the airport in San Diego and took us right to the hospital. when we were ready to go home Megel the driver picked us up at the hotel that we stayed at in Tijuana and took us back to a hotel in San Diego where we planned to stay an extra night before flying out. I have pictures that I took of the facilities if you would like me to email them to you. There were 4 of us that had surgery during my stay.

  10. Hey Pete, You are right on when you talk about Dr. Kuri and his fabulous staff. Since we were banded on the 5th together I have dropped 10lbs. I'm so excited. I have actually started to add in cottage cheese and egg beaters to my menu because I wasn't getting enough protein. I'm still trying to get in all the liquids that they want but that was a problem even before I had the surgery. My port is the only place that bothers me now. If I move a certain way and I cant lie on that side yet, but all else is going pretty good. We will talk soon. Saara
  11. okay I have no clue what PCOS is. Could someone please explain? I'm 5'2" and I too have had trouble with the lossing weight and am scheduled for surgery on 12/5. I'm curious what you are talking about. Saara In Maine
  12. :rolleyes2:I would recommend NJ to save on room night rates thou NYC is more exciting. Have you considered Boston? There are many conference/convention venues in and around the Boston area. I will definately be joining no matter where you go. Saara in Maine:wink_smile:
  13. I know what you are saying about keeping this quiet. I have been told that I'm 'not that heavy' and 'why would you want to do that just exercise more.. ' Oh, Okay, like I haven't tried that yet. So now I do not say anything. Actually when people ask where I am going for the weekend with my girlfriend I just say we are going to a convention. Sad hugh!!! If people haven't struggled with their weight for any amount of time then they don't know what it is like to be where we are. This was not an easy choice for me, I have thought this through for a year and I've been reading all these forums for over 6 months. So when the weight starts to come off I'm just going to take the compliments in stride and just say 'thank you' and just say that 'I have made some life changes..':tongue_smilie:
  14. Hey Pete, I too am going to be banded on Dec 5th with Dr. Kuri. :cool2: I can't wait to meet you. I am so excited, it's only 4 weeks away. This is my gift to myself. I'm flying in on the 4th for all my testing so maybe we will run into each other!! Good Luck!! Saara
  15. I'm from Maine and I am going to be banded in Mexico in December. I have been unable to find a doctor in New England so I found NYU medical center and on their web site they say that they will do fills for patients that have not been banded by them. Also the is a fills center USA in Nj. The NYU medical center is in Manhattan.

    Surgery was today!

Congrats on the surgery!!! I'm going to be banded in early December and I'm not sure what the requirements are going to be for after the surgery. What can you eat, how much and when are you allowed to try solid foods??? I'm a little nervous about the first 2 weeks after surgery.

    Surgery in Mexico

I can understand feeling lost with the process of finding the right doctor. I just called and scheduled my surgery for Dec 5th with Dr. Kuri in Tijauna. My second choice was with Dr. Acreves. I have heard lots of good things about both doctors and decided on Dr. Kuri because of the hospital setting and the fact that the hotel that you go to after you are released from the hospital is also very clean too. I've been researching and watchning all these thread for a good year now and I feel that I have choose one of the best surgeons. The administrators are very freindly and helpful with any questions that you will have and the cost is $7500. I'm self pay because my husbands company put a disclaimer on there insurance that they will not cover anything weight related even if it is medically necessary. Cigna covers it, just not his employer. My BMI is 40 and besides having achy hips, knees and feet I have no medical reason. My suggestion is to read all the good and bad of every doctor and talk to those that have had the surgery by those doctors. :cursing:
