  1. No myspace page here either. Most of my kids have one though (age 14-24). I just don't feel the need for one. Seems a little adolescent to me. Probably just because my kids have one. But that's just my opinion. I'm not putting it down, I just don't feel the need to have one.
  2. Congratulations on your Bandiversary! You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your story and good luck for your ongoing health.
  3. Hi there Jean. That is so cool that you found a yoga class for bigger people. I actually just did my yoga at home, at the time I was working full time and didn't have time to get to a class at a set time so I just did it when I could. What insurance to you have? I have Health Net HMO with Hills Physicians Medical group. With them I have to have my surgery with Dr. Upadahay (can never spell that right) since he is the Dr. with in the Alta Bates practice who has the most experience. I wish I could see someone sooner though it stinks to have to wait so long. I'm sorry I'm complaining again. Well have fun and talk to ya soon. My kid is driving me nuts right now so I gotta go. Over and out. Teresa

  4. I won't miss: Not finding anything cute to wear shopping in the plus size section being afraid if a chair is going to hold my weight not wanting to attend social functions(used to love to be social when I was smaller) huffing and puffing after climbing a flight of stairs struggling to tie shoes not fitting on hubbys lap not riding amusement park rides double chin, (double everything) not being able to run (hurts knees, ankle) stress incontinence no energy depression
  5. Hi there, good to here your doing well and moving toward a healthy lifestyle. I used to do yoga and loved it. I was much smaller then, now I can't balance very well or bend they way I used to haha. But one day I'll be there again. Nothing new really for me to share but I've been slipping from the low carb diet I was doing and lagging some on the exercise. I feel so blaaah lately. I gotta get it back together. You stay fired up and enjoy the yoga, it's so revitalizing. Do you have an appointment for the 2nd class or surgeon consultation yet, or have you already done those things? How's all of that coming along? Me, still the same waiting game. Talk to ya soon. Keep moving forward. Teresa

    Just Need to Vent

I am so sorry that you have been have so many bad experiences with these people. I would find others to deal with if possible if I were you. It's hard enough to go through the dieting and life changes let alone having to deal with people who are supposed to be supporting you but instead making the whole ordeal more stressful. I say move on and don't look back. There are plenty of others out there willing to give good chair side manner and be more understanding to your needs. F em. Good luck with everything.

You can really tell you are out of shape when....

Haha lol. I thought you climbed, I was thinking shoot I wish I could walk without feeling winded. But that's OK your get it together. It's always harder to breath at high elevations anyway when your used to being near sea level.
  8. Hi Jean, just checking on you. How have things been going? Any new information from Alta Bates? When are your 2nd class and Surgeon appointment scheduled for? How's the new eating and workout coming along? Me? Well no major changes still waiting for my next step. I've been exercising more but haven't lost much more one lb to be exact and that depends on if it's morning or nite haha. Started a low carb or maybe I should say lower carb diet this week, we'll see how that goes. Well you take care and stay in touch.

You can really tell you are out of shape when....

Shoot I don't need a mountain to tell me I'm out of shape. I can't even walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. I'd die on the mountain IF I made it to the top. Come to think of it I'm breathing hard just sitting here typing this reply lol
  10. Hiya Terry, I am sooo excited for you. That was pretty fast (results and approval). Wow 10 lbs down already and you haven't even been banded yet, just imagine how fast you'll lose afterward. I am so proud of you, you go girl. Thanks for keeping me posted on the happenings of your journey. I appreciate the heads up, but it's also nice to know that your doing well. You take care and congrats. Let me know your date so I can say a special prayer for you. Take care and keep up the good work.

    Surgery cancelled!!!

Go for the surgery center. You will still be in the good hands of the doctor you selected, just at a different location. And like many others have posted the center is all about surgery. You are there, you have made all of the needed arrangements, don't worry, just relax and go with it. My prayers are with you. Let us know what you decide.

    Cheating..No, not with food!

My husband and I have been happily married for around 7 years now. The first two were great the middle 3 real rough. We actually have a total of 12 years of marriage. Marriage can be tough sometimes, but we got through those tough times and have never been happier. I don't think our marriage would've survived adultery though. As far as I am aware my husband has never cheated on me and I have never cheated on him. We fall deeper in love and lust each day.

    Official Date!

Hi Nina, congrats on your upcoming surgery. I don't have my band yet. However, when I attended the mandatory seminar at the hospital that I am to have my surgery with, they said that the reason you have to go on the liquid diet is to shrink your liver. Since the liver sits on top of the stomach they want it out of the way as much as possible for surgery. Good luck to you and I hope I helped answer your question.
  14. Hi there Ljb thanks for welcoming me as a friend. I am so glad to be able to share this experience with someone that will be having the surgery with the same place I will and also seems like around the same time. I just called the Alata Bates yesterday and they told me that the surgery is usually around 3 months after the 1st surgeons consultation depending on tests, and insurance approval. So since my meeting with surgeon is in Dec I think I may be looking at March too. Hopefully sooner but guess I'll just have to wait and see. You know at first when I was told I had to see the nutritionist for 6 months, "I thought oh my goodness 6months!" The first few months was I think I was fooling myself I'd get all ready and restock my pantry with good for me foods and lose some weight then gain it all back. It took me around three months to finally accept that I needed to be serious about this because it's my life we're talking about here. You know, I knew I liked food but I didn't realize that I was so attached to it. I started to make baby steps and a couple of changes a month. I finally feel really, really ready for this. I was only required to see the nutritionist for 6 months. I've decided to continue seeing her because she has been a great positive influence. I will even continue after the surgery. She said that I would most likely be approved by insurance since I live in San Joaquin county and far from Oakland. Well enough about me. Trying different foods and drinks is a good step forward whether it shows on the scale or not I'm sure you are making a positive change either in inches or just phsiologically. Your body's getting used to good for you foods and your mind is accepting the change. Stay at it. You know (back to me again) I didn't start seeing a steady change on the scale until I started moving. Exercise some more and those lbs will drop. Well Good luck to you and keep in touch. Sorry I talk so much. It's another one of my bad habits. Teresa

  15. Hi tquad. Wow things are coming along for you now. How exciting. Just think pretty soon the actual surgery date will be here. I called Alta Bates yesterday and they told me that it's usually around 3 months after the 1st meeting with the surgeon. But I usually get conflicting information from them so guess we just gotta take it as it comes. I'm happy for you that it falling into place. Good luck with everything.

    PIZZA!! I need help....

I feel ya, I get those wake up calls too. The ones that say wow you are really overly attached to food. Yesterday I was driving home and picturing all the different possibilities for lunch in my head. None of those possibilities where real healthy ones. Than I mentally popped myself in the head and said "hey, you need to get a grip and eat healthy food". You know it's funny you say the "eat to live" quote, because when I began preparing my lunch I had to repeat that over and over and then just giggle because I got through it. I just need to keep reminding myself that. OH and GOOD JOB!! Keep up the good work.
  17. Hi LJB. I noticed that you are having your surgery at Alta Bates So I thought that maybe we can share some information and experiences. I have gone through the 6mo and psych thing already I'm just waiting to attend the 2nd class and surgeon consult and take it from there. When I found out that I would have to wait two months before I could go to the next step I couldn't help but be completely frustrated. But I still my see my nutritionist and found out at my visit yesterday that I lost 7lbs in the past month so I am making progress without the surgery. I just would like to move to the next step already ya Know. Well I wish you the best. Keep in touch.

    PIZZA!! I need help....

HEY YOU!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE PIZZA!!! You must remember that this is your turn. You can do this! That's just pizza. You are stronger than that. Don't do it. and if you already have DON'T DO IT AGAIN! You are worth more than a few slices of fat filled carb filled pizza. Take care. Stay strong.
  19. Oh my, I haven't been banded yet. But my husband had the concern of whether the port would be very noticeable. We have a wonderful intimacy and I don't wanna ruin that with a honking bubble under my boob, ya know. Does it ever go down or does it become more noticeable with the weight loss. I don't think it'll be the deal breaker I just need to smooth him into it ya know let him know what to expect. Thanks for information.

    140lbs to lose...suggestions!

Hi claire. I have not yet been banded. I had to do the whole 6 mo nutritionist thing and psych and all for my insurance. I am currently awaiting my 2nd seminar and surgeon consultation. I wish it would happen sooner but then again I embrace the extra time to learn how to eat better. When I took the first step toward weight loss surgery I was ready for anything, throw it at me. Then I started the nutrition. From the beginning she told me baby steps will help you toward your goal. I lost 11 lbs the first month. The following month I gained 7. Through the process I have had the time to realize that I need to work at this. Of course I need the help from the band to make me less hungry but I need me to stick to it. You know making the right choices. I had a friend years ago have the vertical band and she lost around 80 lbs with it she kept it off for about a year. Then she started eating all the garbage she used to. She ate ice cream, sodas, chips and booze. Her band became eroded and later had to be removed. She is now heavier than she was before. I have accepted that I don't love the food more than I love myself. I won't let this thing take me down and I will get the weight off. I say go for the band, because like everyone here says it is less invasive, reversable and no malabsorbtion. Your goal is totally doable and if you really want it you will achieve it. You just have to begin making and accepting the changes now. Sorry I talk too much. lol. Good luck with everything.

  22. Hi there, I too have pcos and would like to join this group how do I do that?

    Tell us about yourself.

Hey Froggy Jas, Just call me T. I am a 39 year old, Latina mother of five and grandma of 2. My kids range from ages of 24 years to 42 months. I have been on the bigger size my hole life. During my young adult years I was pretty fit but still on the bigger side. It all went down hill after my 4th child. I have been obese for several years and morbidly obese for around 4 years. Its so frustrating. I have pcos which makes it even harder to lose the weight. I am scheduled for my second class in the lapband process on November 21 and my drs 1st consultation on December 22. It stinks that it is so spread apart. But I guess it'll all happen in due time but I needed it to happen years ago so you can see my frustration and my impatience. Ok. Thats enough about me. T
  24. Hi Tquad64, just heard from Alta Bates and they scheduled my appointments for my second class and doctors consultation. I am soooo frustrated, the second class is scheduled for Nov. 21st and the dr.s consult not until Dec. 22. Then after that I still gotta go through whatever tests he orders and wait for insurance approval for actual surgery then second consult then the 2wk diet and ARGH!! Just had to vent. I guess it's good that I have more time to learn how to eat small bites and chew slowly and sip not gulp. I've been walking and I need to stay on top of that and I guess all of this will help me lose that 10% of body weight required before surgery. I am just so sick of having to wait and jump through hoops. ya know. Well thanks for listening to my vent.

    Cali Bandsters Unite!!

Hey Tquad, thanks for they information. They told me that it'd be a couple of weeks before they'd contact me to schedule surgeon consult appointment and that since I would have to have my surgery with Dr. Upadahy (spelling?) due to my insurance I'm looking at somewhere in November. So we'll see what happens. November would be nice the sooner the better. So sick of waiting ya , know. I've been doing things to get closer to the surgery for about 8 months now. And ya know the closer it gets the more impatient I become. I know I shouldn't think like that but I just can't help it. Well thanks again and let me know how it all goes for you as well.
