My surgeon says after 6 months if I need to take an NSAID I should take it with a proton pump prohibitor to be on the safe side and limit to 3-5 days at any time but he was less concerned by casual use than anything I’ve ever seen online!! Surgeon will guide you (like others, my advice is based on my surgeon, I’d never tell anyone what to do )

Hi all, had the GB just five days ago and despite a few moments of ‘what the hell have I done’ etc, so far it’s going fine and recovery seems on track. I’ve been working hard on my liquid diet but as a former gulper / big water (or soda) drinker I am finding the little sips such a bore lol! When did everyone start being able to drink more? I’d love to able just to more comfortably get more in. I’m obviously understanding of my need for patience but i would love to learn your experience!

Size of what you put in your mouth to chew?
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m new about a month in and I was wondering what size bite you take? (I’m not talking serving size) I read somewhere it should be the size of a black bean? Which seems small but does it build up? What happened with you guys? Talking RNY bypass :) -

Outpatient Gastric Bypass

Have you had the surgery yet? How did you go? -
I use an Australian made one called BNChews - tastes rather pleasant thankfully. My nutritionist recommended it, not sure if they deliver outside Aus.

Bari things that give you the ick

I have found that there is way too much differing advice and information online and that irks me more than anything else I’ve experienced so far since my RNY! -
Wanting helpful tips with upcoming surgery on the 20th

Had my bypass three weeks ago (presume you’re having bypass too) just prepare yourself for the mental roller coaster and remember why you’re doing it. (Most) people don’t feel much or any real pain, just some discomfort. I struggled mentally but am working through the mental aspect of it all. Best of luck, private message if you like anytime. -
how did surgery save you money?
bypass24jan2023 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had to stop smoking (which in Australia is the most expensive in the world - $58 a packet, huge taxes to deter smokers) but I used to love it lol and omg I have saved a lot on sneaky Uber eats deliveries already 😂 -
When were you cleared for more intensive exercise after RNY bypass?
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can walk, upping it daily, and do some minor exercises like my arms up to week 10. From week 10 free to explore what I want to do. I will follow this but I’m keen to see how different it was for everyone. When were you cleared?- 1 reply

Am I the only miserable one?
bypass24jan2023 replied to amylittlelbs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m nearly three weeks and have been on an emotional roller coaster but I’m already getting better through talking honestly with my surgeon, asking questions of him, reminding myself of my why and just accepting it’s done! Get on with it haha I will be seeing a therapist though but after 10 days of tears I had enough of myself. One thing I don’t do now is google or check historical threads. I’m keen to live for now and the future, what will be will be. -
Outpatient Gastric Bypass
bypass24jan2023 replied to Jenndk1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would ask if they do the barium swallow test the next day and where do you have to go for it? I had my surgery two weeks ago and the standard in Australia is min. Two nights stay so the idea of outpatient is weird to me but your surgeon and hospital would be professionals! :) -
How fast do you dump? And water before and after meals
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My Bariatric dietician told me that whilst standard advice remains 30 mins of no liquid before and after meals, 15 would suffice and does for all her patients, eventually becoming 10 mins. What do you all do? Secondly, I know dumping is meant to hit within 30 mins (early dumping) but does it normally come on real quick for those who get it? Thanks all, loving reading the forum from start to finish! -
Two weeks since surgery! (And my easy crying lol)
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My two week anniversary today (lost 10.4 kilos since my bypass, 22.93 pounds) and generally had good progression over the time. I’m shocked by how little I need to eat so far in purée section but presume this increases over time. Biggest shock is how easily I cry over emotional or sad things. Cried seeing someone who I thought might be homeless yesterday. Not that I was emotionless before but gee, this has been a ride lol I have had moments of regret and realisation of what I paid to have done to me. I doubt these will Continue past a point but my mind has been my biggest enemy, the rest, so far, has been good. -
I know everyone is different of course but I’ve just been daydreaming about normal eating (months away for me lol) What if you don’t chew properly, is it a problem every time? Or did you find your stomach got better at dealing with variations? What was your experience?

Sleeve revision to bypass 2/6.

No advice as I went straight to bypass! But best wishes with your surgery, you’ll do well, you know what is coming and how to deal with it. -
Bruising and dizziness/hot flashes
bypass24jan2023 replied to serene6's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sorry to hear that but raise with your surgeon for sure. My only bruising was on my arm from The blood pressure artery thing they do and the anaesthesia, I look like a life long heroin addict there lol it’s finally fading -

Questions to ask my surgeon (post op)
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have my first post op appt this week with the surgeon (will be 16 days post surgery). I have a list of things to ask him about but I wondered if there was anything you wished you asked or clarified earlier? -
I knew I would struggle to purée food myself so I found a delivery service and have been enjoying the food a lot, they have a Bariatric box delivery. My dietician approved (albeit thought I’d find the servings too big at least for a week, she’s right!) just using for dinner. Anyway link below: https://www.carefoodco.com.au/

Enjoy the next few weeks! Will all be worth it

10 weeks and I'm still struggling with appetite
bypass24jan2023 replied to mamoosbabes's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 10 days in now and have never felt hunger of course but the love of food smell has returned which is interesting as is the want to eat something tasty. I haven’t had nausea since operating day thankfully. Speak to your surgeon etc, I think sometimes forcing it (in moderation) is the way through but do that under advice. -
I chose bypass because of a few reasons. Like many others I had bad GERD, but the other reason why that I’m naturally an impulsive binge eater / junk food addict. I didn’t feel the sleeve was the right tool long term to help me fight my demons. Also, I was influenced by TV a little - Watching older DR Now with bypass v sleeve, just feels like bypass patients are more often successful v sleeve who can revert back so quickly to bad habits.
