i saw on tv a girl had the hiccups, the doctor remembered if you put pressure on your forhead with your fingers between your eyebrows (little hight then the eyebrows) for a few minutes they will go away. and hers did, i would use a couple finger from each hand and push right where your eyebrows start in the middle. hope it helps!

well i just started my 6 month diet. he said 1200 calorie but the paper work says 1500. it doesn't matter i'm doing horribly. but its only been 8 days so far. plus i quit smoking right at the same time so this week has been hell just for that. i am hoping i can calm down and focus on what im eating and quit giving in to the sweets. i have to loose 8lbs before surgery. the bad thing for me is the dietician costs $500 and i wont have the money til income tax time (Feb) which will be my 5th month of this diet.... i guess better late then never, but it sure would help to be able to talk to someone now. OI!

hello, well, i am on day 6 of no smoking! and yes its hard i went to the consultation with the lapband doc on the 29th - he doesn't think i am going to quit. so now im determined to show him! but he also put me on this diet that of course i have blown the last few days. i get really pissy when i want a cigarette so of course i eat! i'm not going to be to hard on myself, i know its not easy to stop eating and smoking at the same time. its a lot to deal with all at once. and no support doesn't help. and thank god he only wants me to loose 8lbs before the surgery. and i have this six months medically supervised diet to get it done in! 6 months seems like such a long ways away. but i'm sure i'll learn how to eat better and its only for the best. i have decided to buy myself an eletric quitar and learn how to play! i figure keeping my hands busy will help with a lot of this stuff. so hang in there! i'm right here with ya! and i'm doin it cold turkey too! susan

i know about Water aerobics. any other tricks out there for a cripple like me? -
hello all: i am a single mom of a 14 yr old boy. and i am sorry to say he is already obese (270 lbs) -- i can't believe i did this to us! anyway, i'm going in on the 25th of sept for a consultation and hoping i can get banded. my question is, how am i going to be motivated to cook for him if and wihen i'm on a liquid diet and not able to eat much at all? i hear so many people say they are hungry, won't cooking for him just add to the torture? all this came about due to serious back problems/pain. but i have made up mind - once i am able to walk, we will be walking on the beach everyday. and i am already getting somewhat healthier with the grocery shopping. its very overwhelming. oh and one more question...... have any of you started roller blading for exercise? that sounds sooooo fun! way better then walking! thanks so much for the advise! susan

surgery with doc and seminars/support groups with another?
MISS.SUSAN posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hello again i know some of you have had to travel hours to see a doctor and i hate to sound like i'm whinning but........... my doctor wants me to go further from home to see a particular doctor. she said he's the best. but there is a whole clinic at AtlantiCare with everything you need right there. with support groups and seminars and the dietitions - everything. i know i could insist on going to the place closer to home for the surgery but i was also wondering if i did go the the far away doctor if i could do everything else at the this clinic close to home. has anyone had an experience like this? i just hate to drive 50 or 60 miles when i can drive 10. -
hello! i was thinking, once i have the consulation and find out its very possible to get the operation. i should start buying things little by little to be prepaired for the liquid diets, Protein and other foods i will need. is there a grocery list post anywhere that i can print? like where to buy the protein bullets and powders. types of food. and is it possible not to have to buy this stuff on line? thanks susan

getting prepared ahead of time?
MISS.SUSAN replied to MISS.SUSAN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok, that sounds about right to me, i just don't have a lot of money to spend at one time. so i will for now buy the sf jellos and broths. and i have been trying to get used to the fat free and sugar free stuff little by little, i will kick that up a notch, so i'm not in shock when the time comes. i'll try a couple of Protein drinks just to see what they taste like. i just wish i had an idea of how much "out of pocket money" i will need. i may be getting laid off from my job soon. thanks a bunch! single mom, 1 kid, what will i cook?
MISS.SUSAN replied to MISS.SUSAN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks guys! those trikkes look like soooo much fun and WAY safer then roller blades. but i see they only hold up to 250 lbs, i am at 350. i guess i could drop the first 50 by walking and liquid diets then be ok at 300?? i really want to get one with my income tax check next year! but with my son - i will have to get 2! do you guys know - the tires with or without air ( does it make a difference?) -
i popped a stich right after surgery once (laproscopy - tubes tied) it felt like that. i bent over to tie my shoes! of course mine was on the outside. i'd be careful if i was you. i don't think they would go back in for a couple of stiches.

call me crazy and i know this is a STUPID question! i understand you should follow the doctors orders............ but, if your band is not tight - then why can't you eat a little thicker food then liquids? will it cause damage? or are they just trying to starve you for 3 or 4 months just to drop the 1st 40 or 50 pounds? if i go on a liquid diet right now for 4 months (without the band) of course i would loose a bunch of weight. every where i read on this site people are starving to death. its terrible! i feel sooo bad for them! i was homeless once for almost a year and starved - i lost like 40 pounds but the hunger pain is what i remember the most from that horrible time in my life! i promised myself i would never go hungry again if i got myself out of that situation. and oh boy, i made that promise. i have gained 100 lbs since then. a couple of my family members had the bypass surgery and they never complained of being hungry. before or after. how long does it take for the band to actually make you feel full or not hungry all the time. how many fills and how long does it take? how long do you have to starve to death?

I've read some of the threads about loosing weight before surgery "getting rid of the fat on the liver'??? does anyone know if you qualify for the lap band if you have Hep C? i know they require blood tests - how about biopsy's? i haven't seen anything about quitting smoking either? i have come up with some other questions... 1. what is this "programs that insurance doesn't cover? gym membershiip and such? 2. why do you have to loose 10% of your body weight before surgery? at my weight that would be 35 or more pounds. 3. Pre Op liquid Diet? is this something the doc prescribes? what does it consist of? or do you just blend everything in a blender? 4. have any of you experienced the shakes/dizzy feeling, from being on the liquid diet? 5. although i have "tried" to eat better in the past, I haven't really went on a "diet" for any length of time. will the doctor refuse to do the surgery because of this? 6. I have an HMO through Medicaid (NJ) Horizon NJ Health. Does anyone know if they cover the post-op procedures such as "Fills" or anything else? thanks susan
