How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?
stevegoad replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I didn't weigh my food, but I did reasonably well today. We had a family reunion, so there was lots of food. I was in charge of making the bread (as I am the one who inherited the secret family recipe). Before going, I had my Protein shake. At lunch, I had a small portion of turkey, what was 2 bites of dressing, 2 bites of green bean cassarole, salad, potatoes. No dessert, no sweets, no snacking after lunch. For supper, I ate a dill pickle, since there was little I really wanted after a somewhat larger than normal lunch. So over all, though a bit large at lunch, I think all went well. Going to Water aerobics in the morning (exercise is more important than sales - besides, Guitar Center's sales don't start until 8:00 - after aerobics ) So while only the scales will tell, I think I did OK. -
Well, I am at a good time in the band, so I am hopeful about today. Yesteday, I made my homemade bread for a family reunion (Three recipes = 6 large loaves) I am taking 5 loaves to the reunion. I let my wife do the tasting of the one that is staying at home. She tasted the first batch, since it didn't rise very well, and said that it was great, so the others should be much better. Still, I did not partake, and I lost a pound (a great blessing on a baking day). Today's the reunion. Not scared. I'll do fine! (Positive thoughts). So I am blessed and happy. I pray all of you are equally blessed on this Thanksgiving day.

Today, I hit (and crashed through) one of my goals. Today, November 25, 2008, I weigh 311... That is 59 pounds down since my July 25 surgery. But with my pre-op diet, and earlier in the year weight loss attempts... that makes my loss at 101 POUNDS SINCE JANUARY 1!!!!! I just wanted to shout for a second. :thumbs_up:Thanks for being here and giving great support!

I was diagnoses about 10 1/2 years ago. On the test, I stopped breathing 110 times in 5 hours. My blood Ox dropped below 70% - So I am considered moderately severe. Now, no matter what weight loss does, after all this time, I don't have any desire to give up my CPAP... My band is a good tool... but my cpap is my friend.

Girgling(sp) stomach??
stevegoad replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the very noisy stomach (definitely noisier since the band). I place it mostly as I get toward meal time. Doesn't hurt... just loud. -

A Rather Embarrassing Question About Gas....
stevegoad replied to tkcuvelier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't worry. I could be a number of things - maybe the turkey wasn't that good for you, maybe it was a little bad in and of it self (your symptoms could actually discribe a mild case of food poisioning). Maybe a slight stomach bug. I doubt it is anything as severe as a twisted bowel, or a damaged band. Most likely it is nothing severe at all. You will know by the end of this week if turkey is a bad food for you and you can go from there. -
No problem with sushi here. And the best thing... at the cost of sushi, the band makes the meal lots cheaper.

Relationship Question
stevegoad replied to 1hotchocolate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my wife is very proud of me... and the sex is just getting better. (One day, some of us that are married and deeply heavy might discuss that). But I am one that "relationship" means more than just sex. The whole thing has taken a wonderful marriage and made it even better. -
New Member From Houston
stevegoad replied to Kristen1215's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome. I'm Steve and I live in Humble (just north of town). Houston is a big place, so we could be 100 miles apart, but still, welcome from one IKE survivor to another. -
I stink need shower
stevegoad replied to ukcatsfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I showered the next day... Like others said, don't scrub, and just pat the inscisions dry... But you'll be fine, and your family members will thank you. -
To Tell or Not to Tell, That is the Question.
stevegoad replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, my MIL knows... but my mother doesn't (a strange thing that MILLIE doesn't question my finances, my mother still thinks she needs to know everything, even though I am married and 48 years old... so I didn't tell her). Other than MILLIE, my wife, my pastor and 2 friends know. No one else. Not any of their business. -
I was self-pay (I don't have insurance, so it wasn't even an issue). I guess I had an easy route, even for self pay. Went in for my initial consultation - blood work, EKG. That was it. I started my pre-op diet the next day and had surgery 2 weeks later. No psych eval, no sleep studies (I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago before it became a doctor's favorite diagnosis). So for me, working through True Results, it was a snap. $150 for the initial consult and lab work, $12,900 for surgery and 2 years follow-ups and fills.

I've finally found a protien drink that tastes great!!
stevegoad replied to canadiangirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is interesting - certainly good to find a Protein drink that tastes great... But with only 10 grams of protein, it seems pretty low on the scale considering we are looking to get about 60 a day. I kind of doubt I will go that route. -
Hey, congrats on 25. That is no small feat, and should not be downplayed.

Welcome to the group, Connie. Glad you're here!

Congrats!!!!!!!!

Very cool. Since I am 57 down since surgery, and 99 down for the year, and a cold front is coming through tomorrow night... it should be a good weekend for getting into the triple digits! :rolleyes2:

I will only add one thing to what trayrenee said... Remember, you're talking 10 days. Most of us can endure 10 days - (I know, we are really talking a lifetime, and after the band, there will be new hunger challenges, but just looking at the pre-op diet, it is only 10 days). Yup... you might get hungry, but hang in there - it will be alright.

OK, we have about 5 debates going on about the presidential elections, and two things are really coming out of it all: One: We have some sharp divisions in this group as far as opinions go. Two: On November 4th, either McCain or Obama will be elected president. My question: With the various viewpoints, what will we do. To those on the right (middle right, far right, etc) - what will you do if Barack Obama becomes president? To those on the left (middle left, far left, etc) - what will you do if John McCain becomes president? To all: What can we do to gain some unity in our country. Note that, no matter what, there will be politicians, judges, reporters, bloggers, etc., who will make waves long after the election (saying this, people are still ranting about the 2000 elections). But it is up to the individuals at the grass roots to make unity. So the question: How can we get there?

Welcome, Dave. Glad to have you here. I'm sure you will find the encouragement here to be fantastic... And if you accept a challenge, you might become the go-to guy for band-friendly recipes. (that was somewhat of a joke... but we are really glad you're here.) :tongue2:

Why do I need vitamins with an Adjustable Gastric Band?
stevegoad replied to drjacques's topic in Fitness & Exercise
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought I would jump in and add... "Since you eat less with the band, you might not get enough vitamins" But I guess that might not answer the question. Thanks, Doc... this is just a bit too much reading for me. (last time I read this much, I was working on my Masters Degree). -
Yup, I will be paying my 12,900 +plus interest off for a long time at $300 per month. All in all, a $4,700 sounds pretty good. Sorry to not share in your pain.
-
Well, I am jumping into the challenge late. This morning, 315 - down from 321 from last Thursday (6 pounds down). So right now I am in a stage of having things melt off.

OK... I'm not single, but I have had a lot of experience being single. I met my wife, Lisa, in 1997. I was 37 and she was about 41 then. Neither of us had been married. We hit it off as friends right away, and were good friends. In the summer of 2001 (July 26, 2001, to be exact), after those 4 1/2 years of friendship, and 2 1/2 years of being e-mail friends living 900 miles apart, we told each other, for the first time, that we loved each other. A month later, I asked her to marry me. I moved back from Florida to Texas to be with her, but being later in life, we had situtions that caused us to have to wait on marriage. On July 26, 2006, 9 years after we became friends, 5 years to the day after I told her I loved her, when I was 46 and she was 49, we got married (many people still ask why we got married on a Wednesday morning... now you know "the rest of the story." It is easy to get tired of being single... but when you least experct it, the right person will come along, and it will be wonderful (and definitely worth the wait).
