1 fill and now at standstill. Is this common?
stevegoad replied to BubbaLove's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After my first fill, I had about a 3 day standstill. I think 5 cc's of Water wights about 4 pounds. Really, even after a fill, there is some slight swelling. So a couple of days standstill is not uncommon. The loss will start back. -
Bummer. Back in my pre-band days, I dropped mine in a bowl of hot-and-sour Soup. It died quickly. Hang in. It will get better.
-
Glad to hear things are getting better. Just hang in.

Should LapBandTalk have forums for OTHER Weight Loss Surgeries?
stevegoad replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I voted no. I am a member of a mixed group. The bypass folks have it monopolized, with little info for lapband folks. I found LBT because of that other group. That said, I have nothing against those folks. Just I prefer this group stay with lapband. -
Does anyone know Dr. Spivak in Houston, TX?
stevegoad replied to antiquejunckie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I went through True Results in Houston, where Spivak works. Honestly, one of my first questions was whether he would be my surgeon. I was happy when they appointed me to one I hadn't heard of, because spivak seems like a publicity hound, and I don't have any plans having my picture on a billboard. I am sure he is a fine enough surgeon, but too much publicity for me. -
Poll - Democrat or Republican?
stevegoad replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would venture to say that we have heard this argument made in every election since Nixon. 8 years ago, I heard that it was vital, because the president would certainly be bringing 3 new judges to the supreme court. Not that much happened to change our world on that front. We are at war, whether we agree or disagree with it, but it is winding down. Other than the fact that gas prices are high, sending everything else up in price, this is critical, but I don't see that it is more so than any other election. After all, since 1979 when we were talking about the 80 election, presidents and congresses have been talking about getting away from foreign oil... nothing from either side has been done about it, even though both McCain and Biden have been in congress for much of that time. (now, gas has gone from fears of 1.00 per gallon to 4.00 per gallon).:confused::thumbup: Honestly, the president only has so much to say over any of the key issues. They propose things, congress either passes them or now, the judges say whether legal. So yes, elections are importantm and I will most certainly vote in this one... but no, I don't think this one is more important than any other. -
craving coffee...i'm gonna die!
stevegoad replied to just1more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havetype II diabetes, and I've been banded for about 6 weeks. I have asked my doctor a couple of times. He said the coffee questions were started when banding was young, and he has never seen a problem. I was drinking coffee from day 2. -
Well, I'm not Jewish, but I do know that, through the God of both Jews and Christians, we can gain strength. So when if you are tempted, give it over to God. (I will say that in the week after surgery, you probably won't be too tempted anyway, but have faith). Beyond that, I will just ask His blessing for you.

Please tell me the process from start to finish
stevegoad replied to autumnleaves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
True Results put me in on a 12,900 plan, which includes surgery and 2 years of follow-up and fills. (the only thing it didn't cover was the initial consult, which was 150. -
Poll - Democrat or Republican?
stevegoad replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, I am independent. Let me break down as to why: I am pro-life, in that I don't like abortion (though I am not so staunch as to think about stopping 1st trimester abortions, nor rape, nor life of mother). - Like Republicans. I am opposed to death penality (I can't say I'm pro-life if I want to take a life at the other end). - Like Democrats. I am pro-family (marriage as one man, one woman) though not to the point of a constitutional amendment - Like Republicans. I am pro gun control (if you want to take the second amemdment to it's most literal, fine... let everyone have a musket so that we can have the same gun rights as the founding fathers). - Like Democrats. I am pro-border control, but I believe that no one should gripe about people coming from Mexico illegally if they have a confederate flag anywhere in their house - OK... Neither party wants to touch that one. I don't think the president lied about the war in Iraq, and I don't think we can cleanly get out of iraq, but I do believe that the president had such hatred for Sadam Hussan that he let himself get led into the wrong war. (a simi-democratic view). I don't think we can drill our way out of the high oil prices (if we could, then why do oil prices go up everytime a hurricane threatens the gulf of Mexico). But I do believe we need to be independent of middle eastern oil... (I don't think either democrats or republicans have a clue on this one). So, I am just an independant. -
Are We Ready For A Woman VP?
stevegoad replied to Daisalana's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you don't agree with Obama, that is your politics, and in America, you have a voice. But if you aren't joking, I can't even understand such logic. A person can not help their name, and only a fool would make a person's name into a point. When you add that point that you took two names together to prove some sort of connection is just unfathomable. To quote the comedian, Ron White... "The next time you have a thought... let it go." -
Please tell me the process from start to finish
stevegoad replied to autumnleaves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I was 3 weeks from start to surgery. Since I was private pay, it shortened a good bit. The first thing is to find your doctor or clinic. True Results was an easy choice because they work well with credit and are pretty reasonably priced. I went in for my consult. While there, I had an EKG and they drew some blood. That was Monday. On Thursday, I called them, and was told that my test came back OK, and I would be cleared for surgery. The surgeon I was assigned to in the clinic had a date open 2 weeks later. They sent me an e-mail with the pre-op diet. The day before surgery, I had an appointment where I met the doctor, and sat in a 2 hour class for everyone having surgery the next morning. At 6:00 AM, I went to the clinic. At 7:15, I was knocked out. At 9:30, I woke up in recovery. At 10:30, my wife drove me home. That's the fast version... so, yes, since you're private pay, you should easily make the 6 months. But start now. -
Well, I've never seen dry cereal dry as a meal... though that was a bad-habit snack food. I had "south Beach" cereal yesterday for the first time. Put some milk, but not as much as I used to. Made a very filling Breakfast.

has anyone cheated on their full liquid diet
stevegoad replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I voted that I did. My doctor had Clear Liquids one week, full liquids one week, soft foods one week, and then advance as tolerated. I went from clear to full liquids a day early, from full to soft 2 days early, and from soft to more regular foods at about 3 days before hand (so I kind of worked 6 day weeks instead of 7 day weeks). So, I didn't really cheat the diet so much as the calendar. -
Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!
stevegoad replied to MeganMatters's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in complete agreement here. I spent several years directing programs for children and adults with mental retardation and autism. I have seen plenty of real disabilities. Because of this, when I weighed 450 pounds, I never claimed that I was disabled, and I certainly would not look at having a pouch as being a disability. If I worked in a business that had clearly set guidelines, and someone felt there was an exception, I might try to make that exception. But if they came to me because they willingly made a choice to have a surgical proceedure in every way made them healthier, and then wanted to claim disability in order to get a cheaper meal, I would tell them to quit whining and get a life (preferably somewhere else). I keep my card in case I get in an accident and have to be intubated. I will not ever pull it out as an excuse. -
Are We Ready For A Woman VP?
stevegoad replied to Daisalana's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think she will make a fine vice president. After all, if the white house is ever attacked by a rampaging moose during a visit from the Harlem Globetrotters, she can come in, kill the moose and fill in for any players who were injured in the attack. Really, woman, man, black, white. it doesn't matter. What they will do when they get in is important. -
So far, I have noy had any problems with any meat. I have tried turjey, chicken, shrimp, beef - even s couple of bites of s;iced brisket. No problem. Just eat it in small bites, and chew well.

Again I say... that's life. We've all worked for bosses that we don't like, we've all worked for what we feel is too little. You're 18. This won't be the last time you feel like your treated unfair. I lost a career (not a job... but a career) because a few people didn't like my weight. The result is that I will be paying off a $70,000 student loan for the rest of my life for a Master's Degree I will not ever use. So pardon me if I am not overly responsive to whining about an unfair boss. If you don't like it, find a new job. If you feel your boss is not doing her job, there are "whistle blower" laws to protect you. You can report her without anyone knowing who made the report. But griping about it without taking action just makes you mad and doesn't do her any good. OK... My rant is finished.
-
I hate to say it, but that is the way it is in the real world. Bosses don't always care about your special needs. It is not right, but it is the truth. I don't know how much is true in what you say (scheduling nail appointments, reading celebrity gossup, etc.) about your boss, but if it is true, that's her problem, not yours. But your company, your counselor, and much of the world is not going to worry if you "took the time to schedule an appointment..." They will say, "so, make a phone call and schedule another one on your own time." Like I said, it is not right, but it is the way things go. Just relax, hope she approves it eventually, and go on with your life.

No doubt about it. Now you have to concentrate on toning more than losing. Low fat for sure, but lots of exercise.

Well, Frank Felts works in the Dallas area (I think actually in Richardson). He works one day a month at True Results in Houston, but his main office is in the Dallas area. He is a general surgeon (18 years) who now ONLY does Lap Band, He did mine a little over a month ago, and did a great job! BTW... I'm also self pay, and his people can set you up with credit options... at a good price (I think mine was 15,000 ish)

Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!
stevegoad replied to MeganMatters's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, that's where I say "Oh well." I have to believe that if they clearly mark it that the children's menu is for a certain age only, then legally, they have that right to keep that age restriction. But with that said, you are the customer, and have the right not to go there if they don't meet your needs. -
So Is The Chicken, Fish, etc. Going To B Wet
stevegoad replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had any problems in 5 weeks. Just chew well, and it should be fine. -
Welcome to the group, Andrew. I was with True Results in Houston as well (Dr. Felts). They are not always quick on the draw as far as follow-up. I have found that I have to make sure I keep up with things cause they won't. But as far as the surgery and the care once you're inside the door, they are great.
