  1. I think whoever logs in first on a Friday morning could start the thread. I'm happy to do it if I am first!

    Angry...?

I'm not sure why you're angry, but it brings to mind something our nurse talked about in our pre-op meeting. Folks were talking about when they could go back to work, and she was telling us not to rush it. While we physically might be able to go back to work after a week, we were taking away a big psychological crutch (the food) and we were going to need some time to get our heads rewired. Forgive yourself for snapping!

    I'm STARVINGGGGGGG

I wasn't cleared for chicken salad in the mushie phase, just tuna and egg salad. I don't blender/chop it up, I just chop egg up small. Tuna I just separate with my fork. I was told regular tuna (not albacore) in water as it isn't as dry. Also, the salad can't have any onions or celery or anything - just mayonnaise. It goes down smooth. Hope that helps.

Friday Morning Weigh Ins - 12 Sept 2008

This is my fourth week post-band, my first week in mushies, so I'm surprised and delighted (and confused?) by a 6 pound loss this week. Last week: 216 This week: 210??!? I have been hungry, really hungry, but I'm terrified of stretching something, so I'm only eating 1/2 cup at a meal, 50+ g of Protein, and averaging about 700-800 calories. I feel as if I should be eating more calories, but I don't know how to do it and only eat 1/2 cup at a meal. I guess a trip to the nutritionist is in order.
  5. I'm one of those that could never eat anything without drinking. I wonder now if it was my hiatal hernia causing that problem (I was always astounded that hubby could eat a whole meal without drinking anything!). Now that I've moved to solids (well, mushies), I find I can eat easily without drinking.

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

It's so hard not to concentrate on the pounds, but it's a must during this time of adjustment! I lost 19 pounds in three weeks, but I had no pre-op diet, so I was going in pretty high to begin with, plus I was on liquids three weeks. Now I'm on mushies, I kind of expect to go up a bit because I can't imagine losing so much so fast and having it be permanent, especially when my calorie intake goes up. Big picture, big picture, breathe, breathe. I know it's the pits, because we all want the motivation weight loss brings. Good luck with the patience, I know I need it every day!

    First Dietician visit.

I guess it depends on what you are meeting for. If this is your "let me tell you how you're going to eat after surgery," it is a helpful appointment to get the information on what you'll be eating in the liquid stage, the mushie stage, and onward. I got info on which Protein drinks I was allowed, what Vitamins I needed to get, and a basic idea of how I should stock my pantry for those first few weeks. That appointment took 30-45 minutes. Good luck getting ready!

Friday Morning Weigh Ins! - 5th Sept 2008

I'm doing Monday weigh-ins, I guess, but I was happy to lose 2 pounds this week (week three after surgery). I'm still on liquids, so I might backtrack a bit after switching to mushies today. For now, I'll take it! It's been a long time since I was able to lose this much.

    full liquid diet

Two weeks of full liquids has become three weeks for me because I went to Boston for three days and the doc couldn't see me until today (Monday). I'm so looking forward to mushies! Eating in Boston on liquids was a bit of a trick - lots of egg drop Soup and clam chowder! It is boring doing this for so long, but I want my poor little stomach to heal correctly. I really don't like pain, and I imagine how painful it would be if this band got messed up. Keeps me on track!

    recentely banded

On my post-op I am allowed liquids and cream of wheat/runny oatmeal, so it sounds like your diet. My surgeon didn't put restrictions on amounts, he said just eat as I am hungry, but I should aim for 50 g of protein. I worry about eating too much, too, I know how you feel. If it helps, I was averaging about 650 calories the first week and about 750 this week (second week). I'm trying not to obsess about the calories, but the online program I'm using to track food keeps telling me how many I'm consuming! Anyway, I wouldn't worry about eating too much, just try to tune in to how hungry you feel. This is hard when your stomach is still reeling from surgery, I know.

    Friday Weigh Ins - 29th August 08

Hi All, I'd like to join in if you don't mind. I was happy to be down 2 lbs this week (my second week post surgery). I have one more week of liquids as I don't have my first post-op until next Monday. My caloric intake keeps increasing, though, although it's still under 1000. I wonder what will happen when I change over to mushies? Exercise - up to 2 miles a day on Walk Away the Pounds (I hate walking outside in August). No arm work, just walking. Every day so far except one. Keep it going strong, especially all you exercisers - that's the hardest part for me! Start: 237 Last week: 220 This week: 218
  12. My insurance took a good month and a half to clear - mostly through mix-ups ( I had to keep calling my insurance provider and the bariatric office to keep the ball rolling). So while I was really hoping for a July surgery, I ended up with an August 18 surgery. Just realize it's not always quick!

    Saltine Cracker Question

My nutritionist told me oyster crackers were okay during the mushy phase, but not saltines. Haven't gotten there yet, but I thought I'd pass it along!

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

Hi all, I was reading some of the posts from August (not all - wow this is a long thread) and just wanted to say hooray to us all for getting a new lease on life. I was banded on August 19 so I am a week out and so grateful. I'm working a bit now on how many liquids to consume (keeping my protein counts in check) and I found out yesterday that I had an infection and had been taking anti-nausea meds more than I needed to, but I'm feeling more comfortable this week, that is good! Slept primarily on my side last night - very good! My mom and helper is going home tomorrow and other than not wanting to clean (never do) I feel ready. Go August bandsters!
  15. Hello, I have joined today as I am one week post-surgery and feel I'd like to chime in on some things others are saying! I had my surgery with Dr. Singh in Baltimore, and just had a one-week visit to check on an infected incision site (not too painful after three days on antibiotics). Did the 6-month diet, got approved in two months (too long for me!), had to reschedule a trip to see the parents in California so I could get this surgery on the 18th of August. My mom flew out to help me, which was good, but even better was that I stayed overnight at the hospital. It was a pain getting checked by nurses, but having that movable bed was a life saver the first day! I'm trying my best to look at food differently, as fuel for the body and nothing more. It's a process... sigh... but I encourage you all to soldier on!
