    Food harder to tolerate

8 weeks out and I’m starting to force myself to eat I do get hungry but i don’t want to eat 😣 and I don’t want anything else with protein it. No protein shake no protein snacks They’re all becoming disgusting and hard to eat 🤢 Food…i take 2-3 bites and I’m tired of it. Put it in fridge to never be seen again

Too close to the ER today (long post)

Yes most definitely a learning experience i should’ve taken it way more easy
  3. Has any women had crazy cravings while menstruating?? I’m 5 weeks out RNY I was 4 days late & cramps are way worse than they were pre-surgery. Heavier flow also. My cravings are going crazy & restriction has not really been kicking in which is strange af.

Thank you so much for allowing yourself to be vulnerable and candid with your story 🤗. I really do appreciate you for giving insight on how these choices can progress as we learn this new lifestyle

Thank you! Definitely a learning lesson for at least the rest of the summer

Yea the team & I do have a talk on Monday. This was a major learning lesson for me The EMT said exactly that i wasn’t getting in enough calories and the liquid IV was dehydrating me faster because of it. So they gave me some fruit snacks to get back on my feet & my friend took me for real food

I was not consuming alcohol at this event nor have i had alcohol since before my 2 week pre op diet I mentioned I've consumed alcohol at this event in the past before i thought about having surgery just to give some context on how much things have changed for me now that I’ve had RNY I’ll make it a little more clear in my OP 😊
  8. So today I’m 4 weeks post op RNY by the date. I passed out today (Saturday) at an outside, pretty physical, 3 mile walk/dancing event. I’ve frequented this event plenty of times in the past before surgery & while drinking liquor in 82+ degree weather (1-2 years BEFORE surgery) This is the first time in life I’ve ever passed out. It was kind of scary when my friend told me I was out for about 3 minutes…. The morning of I had 2 protein shakes and hit 80g before heading out. I had plenty LiquidIV supplements to make sure I stayed hydrated but it seems like that contributed to my downfall according to the EMT. I have not and did not consume alcohol while only 4 weeks post op. But mainly I had no solid food since Friday thinking that i could hit the protein & just stay hydrated but hell no… With the physical activity & no carbs to replenish the energy my body was way deprived so…eat your carbs

    traumatized by puréed

Exactly what i did too..just extended the liquid stage
  10. Puréed foods have traumatized me 😣 When my doctor advanced me my first meal was mashed potatoes and they were fantastic! I went on to try some salmon but in the blender and it was the worst decision of my life. The texture was that of a milkshake and it was ABSOLUTELY disgusting. I never want to experience blended food (besides a green smoothie) ever again in life. Also, tried the ricotta bake but it was only good for a week before I was over it. So I'm technically still in puréed stage but I'm doing a mushy soft foods instead because I cant with blending food.... I guess I've advanced myself to soft solids (the #1 thing you're not suppose to do 😬) but I've been feeling good and I chew it up really well. Rotisserie chicken mashed potatoes mashed curry chickpeas mashed green beans I do know when when I'm eating too fast though: I feel the pain when the food stacks right in my chest and its passing thru my small opening little by little it's hard to breathe What I think is the "foamies" When this happens I just get up and walk around a bit until it has all trickled down into the pouch Thanks for attending my Ted Talk!
  11. Drink all day....

    ...Pee all day

    That's it...that's the post

Yes, there is a lot of drink and pee...

And that's all good as you really want the waterworks to function well and particularly after they remove your indwelling catheter.

My biggest problem in recovery was just being able to stomach the various Energy/Nutrition Drinks that my surgeon was giving me. I had real difficulty getting used to the taste and flavour. I think l took about 12 home with me but can't remember drinking them even then, just found them to be unpalatable.

This was some time ago way back in 2008 so details are foggy now but l do believe the surgeon's advice about food and drink is sound and we should try to follow if at all possible.

      🥸👌

I was reminded after drinking the packaged protein shakes and nothing else for a few weeks that I am lactose intolerant. I can handle them with no problem for a time - as long as I am having other food as well. But nothing but the shakes made me stay nauseous all the time. I finally had the big DUH moment and searched out other solutions. I found some vegan protein shakes at Target. They are a lot more expensive than the dairy based ones but they are so worth it for me. They aren't as thick or as sickly sweet as the dairy based shakes. After I discovered that I really liked them, I ordered more through Amazon. Amazon had a lower price and better flavor selection. Good Luck!

  12. 2 weeks & 5 days post op and I'm doing great

Gatorade w/protein makes me gag now. I think from having so much of it.

I had the ricotta bake for a few days. I'm in the puree stage but rotisserie chicken, chicken meatballs, cold cuts, & plain tuna don't bother me.

I had a plain old fashioned peppermint and it made me nauseous...

      Hi,

Hang in there, it looks like you're going really well in your recovery phase.

One thing, don't be shy in coming out to ask the Dietitian for more meal plan ideas that suit your surgery... and the gagging and feeling of wanting to vomit will pass.

      🥸👌
