I am 8 days post op also. I am still on clear liquids and mylocel protein shakes for another week. What does your doctor recommend for first two weeks?
-
I was trying to force the liquids and ending up with severe stomach cramping and dry heaving. Tiny sips ever since....Now I am fine.

Hi Melissa Lea, I am not planning on driving for at least another week. I can't trust my anesthia brain. How often are the meetings? Where do you usually meet?

I'm from The Woodlands, TX

Congrats! The first 3 days on the PreOp diet were hard for me. After that it was smooth sailing. April 18th is a very good day (my birthday)

I know what you mean about the snooty people in The Woodlands. I am very careful of who I tell about my surgery. I thought when people start to notice I will tell them I am going to Weight Watchers, or I am on a Doctor supervised diet. My business is my business.

I love to eat, but I hate to cook! I love anything fast food... especially Double meat Whataburger with Mayo & Cheese and don't forget the fries. I eat very fast and drink a lot of Diet Coke so I don't have to chew so much. My first obsesion with food started with two major changes in my life at age 9. My grandmother died and my family moved. I was depressed for 2 years and ate myself into a very chubby 11 year old. At 13, I got a pinched nerve in my back from PE at school. The doctor gave me diet pills to lose weight. I lost 28 pounds until I stopped taking the pills, then gained it and more back. At 17, I discovered Alcohol. I would not eat, drink, throw up. Well that weight loss plan got me to 104 lbs. I was sick all the time so I quit drinking and started gaining weight. I got married and had two children. Struggled up and down on weight...mostly up. Got divorced, lost some weight, got married again, gained some weight. Moved 4 times and added 20 pounds per move (stress eater). Went on Sugar Buster's diet and lost 40 lbs. Allergy problems went on steriods...Went off Sugar Buster's diet and gained 50 lbs. Went on Weight Watchers lost 25 lbs, Allergy problems went on steriods..went off Weight watchers gained 30 pounds. Went on South Beach diet lost 30 pounds, Allergy problems & constipation..went off South Beach gained 25 pounds. After all that I decided to quit trying. I even stayed within a ten pound range for a whole year. Then my friend's doctor recommended she get banded. My friend never wants to do anything alone, so I went to seminar and doctor with her. I really felt like she, myself, and my daughter (BMI 45) had some real hope of beating this destructive cyle. My friend and daughter are waiting on insurance to aprove theirs. Mine was private pay because I was under BMI 40. So here I am with a chance to not have Diabetes, or High Blood pressure like my parents. A chance I can go off my cholestrol medicine. A chance my osteoarthritis will improve so I can go off Celebrex. Mary

Surgery Tuesday and having some Morbid thoughts.....
maryb replied to jtrek's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know where you are coming from.... I got the same routine and I was a private pay also. Anytime you go under anesthia there is a risk. We would be foolish to ignore this risk. In my oppinon, anytime an operation can give us more quality or quantity of life it is worth the risk. I will be praying for you to have peace with your decission. -
Just the opposite for me, constipation had to take MofM. No noises from the tummy yet, but A lot of Gas and burping.

So far, I have not been hungry at all.

Pre-op tests my surgeon's Surgicenter required: Pre- Op Blood Work Chest Xray General Health Screen from Primary Physician (These were covered under my UHC Insurance even though they did not cover my surgery - I paid $15,000.00 Houston, Texas) -
When I am skinny... I will walk without joint pain. (Osteoarthritis) I will buy a full length mirror. I will cut-up my Lane Bryant & Catherine's Credit Cards.
-
Currently working with UHC Insurance to pay for my daughter's surgery. She is BMI 45. If they approve, it will cost her $1500.00.
-
$15,000.00 My insurance would not pay for it because my BMI is under 40 and I do not have 3 co-morbidities.

So incredibly mad for telling my father...

I told my best friend I wasn't telling my parents about my surgery until afterwards. You guessed it, she told them. I was disappointed, but relieved that they haven't let on that they know. People (parents) can be very critical of something they don't understand or can't relate to. I was even reluctant to tell my Bible Study class, but decided at the last minute to tell them. I am glad I did because they have been very supportive. -
I received my band Tuesday, March 14, 2006. I am feeling a little down today because I am having a lot of gas pains (I think it is gas). I also feel like vomiting. Anyone else feel like this in first week?:help:

You are right! I was trying too hard to stick to a schedule of food, shake, food, shake, food shake. I know better now! I am feeling good again today. Thank you all for your support!

I called my Doctor because the nausea got much worse. He called in a suppository prescription and said to stick to Clear liquids only. No more applesauce! I am feeling a little better since the suppository, and held down most of a sugar free Popsicle. My legs however were hurting, so I filled up my tub with hot Water and turned on the jets. I sat on the side of the tub and put my legs in only. Now, my legs feel better. Thank you for the support.:clap2:
