maryb replied to xelapaul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
BMI is Body Mass Index. It is calculated by Height and Weight. http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htmn BMI Calculator you can run your numbers. I am 5"4" starting 207 lbs. My BMI was 35.5 -
My best friend (yes the one who told my mother) became a bandster today! She is doing great. You can see her on "before and after pics". Roberta Mims. That's my bud!

Welcome Lady di! I am self-pay Houston, $15,000.00 The only negative I have heard about going to Mexico is you are so far away from your doctor. Where will you get follow-ups and fills?

I am usually an open book with everything in my life....good or bad. But for some reason, I don't feel comfortable with telling people about my band. It is almost like it is TABU or something. I don't mind telling them I am on a liquid diet. Of course most people think fad diet, it won't last...that is what I would think or "She must be crazy". So, I guess I would rather people think I'm crazy, then to think I was lazy or vain enough to resort to obesity surgery. Why do I think I have to justify or explain my actions? I am almost 45 years old! I can do or not do whatever I want. I am in control, so I can choose not to tell whomever I don't want to know and don't need a reason. Good for me! Wait a minute...my best friend told my mother after I told her I was not going to tell her. I am not in control of my life! If she would tell my mother, she would tell anyone and everyone she meets...and this girl gets around. My mother, OMG, everyone in North Texas knows now. I am having Deja Vu. When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I knew the right person to tell so I wouldn't have to call anyone else...gossip spreads faster then email. I can relax now, because everyone I know now knows my secret. I hope they all know that they aren't suppose to know and don't tell me. What were we talking about?

I hacked up a "cheese ball" last night. This morning took out the magni-mirror and there was another one in a cavern in my left tonsil. I have occasionally had these and always blamed it on my allergies, and the craters on my tonsil from so many cases of tonsillitis growing up. I will definitely get me some of that Therabreath. Thanks for the info Chris S.

Lady at GNC said they are coming out with a chewable Fish Oil.

I noticed the bad taste lingering in my mouth lately...probably smells, but I can't smell it. I stole my husband's scope to swish my mouth out after eating. Today I bought a month's supply of listerine strips for my purse. I have also noticed a strange thick coating on my tongue.

Newly banded from North Texas

I felt just like you! Took me 2 weeks to feel normal again. Hang in there! -
I am 18 days post band. I felt tired for two weeks, which is normal for me because of anesthia. I think the port pain (rip & burn) lasted about a week. Now, I can push on the port sight without any pain at all. I can feel my port when I push on it now. Your swelling may be keeping you from feeling your port.

I took about 3 bites of cottage cheese. That last bite didn't go down very well. Then I felt like I was going to hiccup. I hiccuped twice, so drank a couple of sips of Water. Then the next hiccup came and out came the slime. Two more Fluid hiccups then it stopped. I trashed the rest of the cottage cheese. So was that a PB or what?

I wonder why cottage cheese?

I had an incision in my belly button. Do you think you do, maybe that is why you feel the pain there. The only burning pain I had was around my port site...left side half way between boob and belly button. I hope you are feeling better.

I'm 5'4" 189 pounds and I wear a size 18.

Thanks Rachele, I would love to see the chart with the differences. Thank God for WLS! Just can't help but think of how many lives are forever changed for the better. I had given up hope myself and was facing a future of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and debilitating Arthritis. HOPE is a wonderful blessing! Mary

Rachele, RNY doesn't sound so scary after reading your posts. I have read that some people have had RNY after Band failure. It is good to know that there are options postband. It is my understanding to qualify for RNY you have to be at least 100 lbs over weight. Is this true? That was another reason why I went with the lap band. My Insurance wouldn't cover surgery for me because my bmi is under 40. (60-70 lbs to lose)

feeling blah after 1st post op check up
maryb replied to sparkling's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor said I should get my first fill 6 weeks post op. My next appointment is 5 weeks post op. I guess he will decide then if I get it the next week. He said I have a 7.5 band and should get 2cc fill. I don't know if that is normal. What is normal? -
Really excited to have surgery date!

I'm a self pay $15,000. Two weeks post op and 18 pounds gone forever. I am very happy with my decision. I figure I will recoup the $15,000 from not buying junk food anymore in about 2 years. This LBT has been the best support I could every hope for! Congrats on your decision to be banded. -
I would not even consider RNY! I went to the lapband seminar with my friend and daughter. I was sold on the fact that it is reversible. My daughter is only 22...I want her to have babies someday. This is definitely the healthiest solution in my opinion.
