A little Dazed and Confused, maybe even discouraged...
buskohl replied to msnenequeenie14's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am going through the same process right now. I was banded 8/21/08 and I find myself sooooo hungry through out the day that I feel I am eating constantly. I talked to the nurse about this and she reassured me that is normal. She said #1 they want you to eat healthy right now and not to be concerned about losing weight. The process until the 1st fill is getting your body used to the band, healing from the surgery and getting yourself used to eating properly (i.e. chewing throughly, not drinking with meals, to stop eating when your full, etc). For my hunger problems she just suggested I eat more foods that I have to chew and will stick with me longer. My body isn't sustaining the foods I am eating therefore making me hungry all the time. Don't be discouraged though. I know you are like all of us...so ready to get this weight off and get on with our new life. But until we get to our 1st fill we just need to concentrate on how to eat and make sure we are healing ourselves. Hope this helps! -
My surgery was the 21st as well. I am healing well at home, in fact went back to work today. I too am on liquids diet til tomorrow than move to the mushies! My only issue is the gas pains...they are miserable and I would feel great if it wasn't for them. Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of them or how long they last? Also side note...my Dr. gave me a prescription for pain meds...but I am a college student as well and needed to be able to study...he suggested I take liquid tylenol for pain as needed and it has worked great! Just a suggestion for those struggling with those pain pills!

Hello fellow banders... I was banded 8/21 also. Everything went great and today I am heading back to work. I have had no problems sleeping since I got home. In fact..I have been sleeping 10-12 hrs a night. I found putting a pillow right up to my stomach when I lay on my side to be comfortable. I too have the gas pains in the upper chest and that can be miserable! I haven't found anything to relieve that yet...someone said to drink warm liquids...but that is just a temp relief. As to the acid reflux. Not sure if that is what your burning is...but my Dr. told me before I left the hospital that he wanted me to take chewable TUMS w/calcium ASAP to get the Calcium and chase it was a little Water. So I don' see why you couldn't take them to see if they help that burning sensation your feeling! I haven't been too hungry either...but today I woke up and I am starving. I have 1 more day of clear liquids before I go to the mushies...so hopefully tomorrow I can satisfy this hunger with a something other than broth, Jello, popsickles.

Just Banded need help
buskohl replied to mamalovell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 8/21 and I am having the same with the feeling of needing to burp and pain in the left shoulder. My incisions are feeling great...it is just that uncomfortable feeling and pain that is causing me concern. But I am glad to read that that is normal this early after surgery....I was hoping that it would go away and didn't have to live like this the rest of my life! Thanks for the information!!
