    Low Thyroid?????

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 11. I have always had trouble losing weight and keeping it off. I am currently on 250 mcg, but they're going to have to get me back up to 300. My mom had hers removed when she was 34. As long as you get the right level of meds and keep it where it needs to be you should be good. All the women in my family have it. You need to make sure that you get it checked as often as your doctor tells you to though, because weight can play a big part in what dose you need. good luck:thumbup:

WHERE does the food get "stuck"??

When food gets stuck it means that it will not pass through the stoma or your new pouch exit. You will feel it and most of the time you need to bring the food back up! It may be because you didn't chew well enough, you ate too fast, or you ate something you should avoid with the band...hope that helps.

    Any smokers?

I don't think they're harrassing you...The surgeon needs to make sure that the surgery goes as smoothly as possible and the chances of blood clots are there, but they are so much higher and riskier if you're a smoker! The doctor isn't just holding surgery over your head and saying nana you can't have it until you quit. They don't want to lose a patient or have a patient get a blood clot! They want you to be healthy and I'm sure they want to see how well you handle drastic changes...I think you should try all you can to quit...it's not like quitting would be a bad thing! Good luck...you can do it, but only when you're ready to give it up...

If you're passing the gas than they're working...if you were unable to pass the gas that would be super painful! I know I get the same way...my poor husband..lol

    Home from Hospital

CONGRATS!!! When I got home from surgery I was like this isn't bad at all...the pain really doesn't get that bad, but it definately is worse on about the 3rd or 4th day when all they numbing stuff is waring off and the anesthesia is out of your system...Good luck and congrats again!!!

    Any smokers?

I quit smoking cold turkey 4 years ago and haven't touched on since and haven't wanted to! I think that it is worth giving up something that's killing you for something that is going to save your life! This is a win win...you quit smoking and killing your body and you get a new start and lose weight. You need to quit...when you're ready it wont be a hard decision trust me...

Turkey Day - at my house?!?!

I agree with the "rude one" lol. Maybe if your in laws knew about your surgery they wouldn't expect you to do all that work. Your husband needs to step up and be a man and tell them that you are not ready to do Turkey Day at your house. If you're still in the mushies stage by then, you're allowed anything you could eat if you didn't have any teeth. Stick to it...it really is worth it. Hold your head high and be proud of the steps you have taken to lose weight and improve your health!!! You should treat your in laws like your own parents, because they're your family now and you should be able to tell them things too!!! Be strong...stand up for your decision and let them know, give them paper work on it so they know how safe it is! Good luck

    Almost one year after surgery

My surgeon and most of the people I have talked to say that those are some signs of having too much restriction. If you have a 10cc band why is it filled past 10? That doesn't seem right to me...
  12. I'm not sure what they do if you "pop a stitch", but I do know that when you pull a muscle in your abdomin it takes a LONG time to heal because you are almost always using them...it takes time.
  13. Okay. Have a few questions... I had my surgery on the 3rd of this month so I'm almost 2 weeks out, how long did it take the tape to come off and if it still wasn't off how long did you wait until you took it off? Any sugestions on what to use to get that sticky tape goo off? I still don't have an appetite...is that normal? I hope everyone is doing well where ever you are in your journey to get that weight off!!! We are on our ways!!! lol.

    Yeah yeah yeah

I may try the simple green, but I don't think I'll try the nail polish remover thoug...my incisions are still tender and I would hate to get that on them. Thanks for all the suggestions

Hey, buddy can you spare a dime?

I used CareCredit. It's basically a credit card used only for healthcare...you can even use it for vet bills and stuff and you can use it again! check it out, but the surgeon's office should have suggestions

    Angry...?

Okay since my surgery on the 3rd I have seemed very angry. I snap at everyone who talks to me. I cry ALL the time and I yell a lot. Has anyone else had this problem? I just don't know why I am so mad at everyone.

    Dealing with the Pre-OP.....

I started at 253 and I only had 6 days to pre-op diet. I lost 6 pounds and everything went fine...I drank 3-4 EAS AdvantEDGE drinks and then one 300-400 calorie Lean Cuisine...and lots and lots of water!!!! Don't cheat...if you cheat now...you might end up cheating on your post op liquid diet and you really don't want to do that. Stay strong...we've all been there. It does get easier around the 3rd or 4th day...stick to it...it is so so worth it!! Good luck!

    Dealing with the Pre-OP.....

You need to follow the diet...if you don't how will you be able to do it again post-op? You can do it...it does get easier
  20. Someone should make this a poll....
  21. My surgeon told me that pretty much anything I could eat if I didn't have any teath was fine, but try to look kind of healthy...just because you can eat it doesn't mean you should...

Straws are fair game for me....they actually make me sip and drink slower...hmmm

I had a scary thing happen

I had my surgery on the 3rd and then on the 6th I was having really bad pain on my lower right side. I was later taken to the hospital and after a lot of tests they found that I have a hemoraging ovarian cyst that's a little larger than my uterus...if it wasn't hard enough healing from the lapband surgery, but now I have to deal w/ the pain froms this....grrrr.

    Trouble in Paradise

So yesturday I was having extreme and I mean EXTREME lower abdominal pain. I had just had my surgery on Wednesday so I called my surgeon. She told me that it didn't sound like anything band related and that it sounded me like either my appendix or a gyn problem. So I waited it out for a little longer and then it finally got so bad that I had to be taken to the E.R. by ambulance last night. I get to the E.R. and they draw some blood, take some urine, and do a ct scan. In the ct scan they see a mass of something. So then they send me for an ultrasound and they find the mass. It's a little bigger than my uterus and it's covering my right ovary. Then they tell me that it's a cyst that's hemoraging. I said ok so where do we go from here then and the doctor tells me oh we just treat the pain and wait for it to go away...So as soon as I was starting to feel better from surgery this crap happens...*sigh*. Anyone else have unrelated band problems that showed up right after surgery or anything? Also any advice on different things to eat while on the liquids diet...? Thanks for listening to my rant
