    Exercising with Disabilities

i checked out the pool yesterday where i was going to do their water aerobics class and the first step down is soooooo steep. i might be able to step down into pool, but doing that step coming back up, i cannot do it. my knee will lock up---i am very disappointed, i had been planning to do this since before my surgery. today i guess i will check out curves. i ,too, can only do the upper excercises due to bad knees and arthritis. i walk with a cane and use my scooter when out in stores, park, etc. i also got me a disco tape at walmart to use , i can dance my brains out, mostly upper body movements. however, i will do this away from the kids, in my bedroom, or they will choke with laughter.

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?

sheriff joe sounds like quite a character----sounds like most of what he is doing is just and fair for the situation.

    QUESTION for moms.. FUNNY

my boys call it their pee-pee and i call it their pee-pee or penis. my 9 yr old loves to pinch his, move it around, he says he likes for it to stick up! LOL of course, i have explained all the things to do or NOT to do--but he still finds his penis to be fascinating. he asked me yesterday what a dick was!!! he heard this at VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL friday.........s/o called s/o else a"dick"...OMG. when my husband told him what it was,and not to use that word, he did not believe DH!! he asked me twice what it really was...it's not a pee-pee is it, mom? LOL and i worried about what they might hear on the school bus when they rode home in the afternoons(we drive them to school in mornings)---so evidently, VBS was very interesting this year!! i forgot, we also call it "wing -ding", especially when they were smaller. my sister gave them a hot wheels car once that had the name wing-ding on the bottom of it...the older one could read it and cracked up. they wondered why santa(it was xmas) made a car with such a name on it!! oh, me.......i told them santa did not know what the elves put on the bottom of it.........:biggrin1:

    Knitting

heather b.---i figured out the real problem with my round rug from the kit. the fabrics were not the same weight. every time i made rings with the yellow, it would start to curl up--even after 3 or 4 rings around together. the fabric was verythin compared to the other two that they sent. i took yellow out and used other fabrics only--it came out great. i have since also started crocheting a rectangle rug for my living room. i am using some blue and white toile prints(one i had used to cover a chair) to make it. it looks real good so far, about 1/3 complete so far. my living room is covered up with tons of blue willow china--it will match great when finished. has anyone made anything with those plastic looms from walmart or michael's? there is a set of round ones and a long purple one also. i wanted to get the purple one to maybe make some shawls as gifts. is it hard to do? any suggestions or hints? "normal" knitting looks hard to me, without someone to show me in person what to do.

    Knitting

:biggrin1: i just got a kit to make a rag rug last week. i made it in 4 days, however it never stopped looking like a giant sombrero. i took it out and started again. it looked good til about halfway through, it is not starting to do the sombrero thing again. i also used some scrap material from a shower curtain i made and am making another rag rug with that scrap. i have never crocheted before, i copied instructions fromn internet sites and i am doing it right and making it loose enough, i think. but it still wants to curl up. i keep putting it in the floor with heavy stuff on top, looks flat, then i finish another round or two and it wants to curl---------HELP ME !!! i also made 4 potholders in the 3 days before my surgery and made 17 more the 2 weeks after!! (you know, the ones we made on metal loom as children) we are using them for coasters, etc, giving them to neighbors, taught my sons how to do them, neighbor girl also----------just to keep my hands busy. i really want to get this rag rug thing right, i had already collected info in a folder in last few months to do this. now i am very frustrated...........but tearing the material into strips is fun....LOL your stuff looks great kat.........is candlewicking very hard to learn? i also do embroidery but, my eyes hurt too much from the strain to do it very long at a time, even with a magnifier around my neck to see with!!

Folding Sheets, or, My Idea Of Hell

i do not like doing the laundry either. my boys (9 and 12) sort, wash, dry their own laundry, they have for 2 yrs now. but i fold all their shirts and "good clothes". and my husband does almost all his laundry also. but when i need to wash tablecloths, curtains, etc., i say i don't really mind. they always look so good when clean! i just hate to have to iron them!! my ironing board cover gets dusty, because i RARELY USE IT!! there is no denying it though, ironed stuff looks so much better.

    May 2006 Band Crew

hey ya'll----i am doing good--hungry, but fight it. i slept on my right side from the time of surgery (port is on left). but i normally sleep on the right side, a little on my back. on the 2nd day after surgery, i slept for about 4 hours in the recliner at the hotel room, then moved to the bed. i slept with lots of pillows (i do normally) that came in handy as i coughed--i could hold them tight against my sides or stomach to stop the pain. only used pain meds once after i got back to hotel. the liquid med was horrible, worse than the pain. my pain was not bad at all,i only had 2 very small bruises, and my incisions have healed great! i lost 21.5 lbs on liquid diet starting may1st,surgery may 11th (weighed 352-loss of 21.5) and i have not weighed since. think i have lost at least 12lbs or more since though. i am very happy with the band, i do not know when i will be getting a fill. i do still have trouble getting in enough liquid--i keep trying. hope everyone is doing okay from the last two weeks.:biggrin1: anybody got any great ideas for mushies stage? any thoughts would be appreciated. i will be starting water aerobics soon.....how about ya'll, anyone else hate true exercise as much as i do? HA-HA:faint:

    They Won't Let Me Play!

too bad, just because you have the band doesn't mean you will lose super fast---maybe they should give a smaller prize for anyone who is banded. maybe the banded could each pay into a "pot" for one of ya'll to win at the end of the challenge......:cake:
  23. hi, everybody--i haven't posted for a while....i have been doing good since surgery. i started liquid diet on may 1st--lost 21.5 lbs by surgery on the 11th. i believe i have lost at least 10 more lbs. in the last 2 weeks. i started yesterday with soft foods. that made me happy!! i started with a 65BMI and hope to see it drop and drop and drop. i have had a few tiny NSV'S since coming home. i am much more comfortable in my van's seat. my size 14 underwear is very baggy, i have lots less edema in my legs, and my liesure bra i have been wearing since surgery because of a n incision, is now very loose. yea, me!! i have size 52 I boobs--the more they shrink, the better !!! and also, my incisions have all healed and look very good--very tiny except for the port one. i am going to sign up for water aerobics classes for a month or so--hope to start in another week or two. even though i will be wearing a matching seersucker capri and top set instead of a swimsuit, i do not feel embarrassed, just excited to be able to go. i have bad arthritis and need knee surgery, this will be very good for my joints. i still have about another 160-170 lbs. to lose. oh, yea, i am also off of my wellbutrin (for depression) since my surgery. i am hardly taking any diuretics, just 2 or 3 times a week as needed. i am glad that everyone on this thread understands my super-sized issues. hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend. :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

    May 2006 Band Crew

hello everybody, i just got back from mexico from having surgery with dr rumbaut on may 11th. many people were there at the same time from the states. i lost 21.5 lbs in 10 days on the liquid diet (last 3 days of that were clear liquids). had several minor problems (none of them medical),with hotel, etc., but overall was good. dr r. and staff are very good, friendly, and kind. nursing care at hosp. could have been better though. now i have 3 weeks of full liquids ahead of me, then soft foods. i am glad to be back home and enjoyed looking over the posts i missed while gone. good luck to all may bandsters!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
