Need A Fill, Near Atlanta, Ga

river, their office said $2,000 for a year of care, up to 4 fills, all with fluoroscopy. if i had only 2 1/2 fills a year with dr rumbaut--my airline cost would be that much and a lot more hassle than a 3 hr drive to dalton would be. i love dr r. and fills are free, but it would be more costly and time consuming for the actual trip than i would want. dr r. recommended dr ponce anyway.:biggrin1:

    Freecycle Do you?

i just joined freecycle this past week. found several things i needed, but no one responded to my answers. we take things to the goodwill as needed, i will try freecycle to see if s/o wants any of it next time we are ready---anyway, it is a good idea, but it does look like people are "no shows" quite a bit from what i have seen on the site.

    Summer Time with Kids

we are doing most of the same things as paula. i have 12 and 9 yr old boys. one day i had 8 kids counting mine to take to the local indoor pool, they all paid their own way. i require my 12 yr old to read for 2 hrs per day, so he does not really want to go the library. when we have neighbor kids come over, i have to limit some of it--they will be here almost all day. but, that's when the boys cut on the water hose and everyone gets wet 3 or 4 times a day. it is very hot here in s.c. as well. we did a free day camp for 1 week, took 3 neighbor kids w/us to VBS for one week, indoor county pool 3 times, lake 3 times, and twice we went to michael's craft store just to look around in the air-conditioning!!! our house will just not cool down til after 10pm on the days it is over over 84 degrees, which is every day now, and yes, we have a/c !! we have made the beaded bracelets all the kids like, also did this for the kids at camp and in neighborhood. if a/o's siblings come along that are girls who may be bored, we make beaded earrings, bracelets, eetc. and i teach them to make potholders on a little loom. they think it is cool because they have never heard/seen that before!! buying those 2 things for the summer was a blessing in disguise--even my boys have made potholders. in the middle of july, we will start reveiwing what they learned in school last year for an hour and a half each day, by then they will be eager to do it. my younger one always wants to start learning something above his level to prove to himself that he will know it when school starts in the first week of august. we also play cards on some days for hours and we make up stories that are goofy. they do their regular chores, but sometimes they will do a special chore to help me and to earn a little extra money. it is very tough to fill their every minute!! but about the time i am ready to kill them, school will be starting back!!!:biggrin1:

    Knitting

dear god---i bought the loom and tried it many times last night--i am about ready to give up!!! i have read the booklet with instructions, and also the instructions that come with the purple loom---i do not think i can learn exactly how to take the work off the loom each time without some visual help......OMG.....i do not give up easlly, but this really has me stumped. each time i took some work off the loom, it looked different---absolutely nothing like the previous round---i think i may have to call a knitting shop and go in to have someone sho3w me how to do it. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH

    Gum

i have not swallowed gum since i was around 5 years old. i chew it now on an empty stomach to keep me from eating when it is too soon to eat. i am sure i swallow air chewing, so i chew it in between meals sometime, especially bubble gum---it keeps my mouth busy--HA-HA:biggrin1:

Question for Women on/after Surgery Date

i wore and took only front hook sports bras with me. i am a size 52-I and so they hang down pretty much no matter what--however even lifting them a little from that top incision helped. i wore my regular bra after 2 weeks (it is not a wired bra). all incisions were healed by then. i also wore a fabric bandaid over that particular incision and that sure helped with irritation and dampness. those kind of bandaids stay put comfortably. if you have to go to work, do not wear a knit type top, it may show you hanging more. try a woven type shirt---worked for me!!:biggrin1:
  13. Betje---you go, girl!! 66 lbs--that is great!! i lost 21.5 lbs in the 10 days before surgery and i think i have lost about 15 or 20 since--i do not have any fill yet. hopefully, i will get a fill sometime in july.

    How do you eat?

:biggrin1: i try many of the same things as everyone else. i use a salad fork rather than dinner fork, i use a divided plate or a shallow rimmed soup bowl. i try to eat 2oz chicken tenders or whatever meat, 1 large spoon veggie, and i have a tomato, cucumber, lettuce salad about twice a day. one of those times, my salad has added kidney beans(love those), and i will add 1 oz light mozzarella cheeses to it. my salads are only 1/3 or 1/4 lettuce--the rest is the veggies. i try to eat whatever super low calorie veggies i love, that way i can use "regular" ranch dressing--never more than a tablespoon. that way, i enjoy my salad, instead of just tolerating it because of "diet" dressing. i used to drink about 32 oz of 1%milk a day, now i have a teeny 4 oz glass once or twice a day. i try to only have potatoes, rice, pasta, 3 or 4 times a week--then a very small portion. i eat crackers or maybe toast only about every other day. because bread and potatoes are my downfall, i try to limit them a lot. i have tried every diet dressing and margarine known to mankind--do not like any. i use blue bonnet margarine in the tub--only 60 cals--have eaten it my whole life--use it sparingly, even though, and i do not buy the light one. HOWEVER, the other day at walmart, i saw some spray parkay margarine. i bought some, and it was GREAT!! i put it on a hot 1/2 ear of corn-5 sprays--it was so good..0 CALS. i will try it on green limas or potatoes next time. those are 2 things i always will want some butter on. it is made from buttermilk--but it was just like eating my regular margarine. i also eat about half of a can of pintos, large limas, blackeyed peas for lunch a few times a week--i love beans, good source of protein and they fill you up. luck's brand beans are great...some of them are fat-free. so anyway, i guess i pretty much dish out what i should be eating and try to put the rest away right away. i make much smaller portions of meat and we have always eaten our supper together, but i eat small portions of leftovers if my family is having hot dogs, hamburgers, something i do not want to eat. i try to keep snack size baggies with 2 chick tenders in the freezer, cooked and ready for those times. i also have sooooo many of those itty bitty storage containers (1/2 cup) that i put in fridge or freezer just for me-------ME-SIZED portions. that really helps me stay on track with what is readily available to eat, then i have no excuses. IS THIS A LONG POST OR WHAT? OMG:biggrin1:

    MUSC now offering lap band

tammy, i could not find a doc experienced enough in the state of s.c. for me. i was self-pay,monterrey, mx. this was because of dr rumbaut being the most experienced doc i could find. he was great.the cost was $10,600. he has a friend named dr ponce in dalton,ga that i will probably use for fills. maybe she should check out dr's in atlanta/georgia. there is also dr champion in marietta, ga. i was going to use him if ins had covered.:biggrin1:

elisabeth, i,too, just want to be able to have knee surgery and be healthier. i do not care what "size" i end up at, and cannot afford plastic surgery. i just want to live longer and feel better. jack, they do still make those small trampolines, i saw one in a sale paper just the other day. but, i think the weight limit is 225lbs--not sure.

    Exercising with Disabilities

i will ask about the ramp--they do have a sling type chair they lower into the water, but i do not want those teenage lifeguards lowering me into the water with that crane--no way. but, maybe they have a ramp of some sort. i am taking assorted neighbor kids to the pool tomorrow,i will check on ramp. thanks...

    new here

welcome, i am fairly new also, since march. i also check out the new posts, and the lap band lounge is an interesting forum, it has some funny things and also everyday "life" stuff in it. just remember, anything that is posted here, is just someone's personal experience or opinion---not necessarily a fact. but many of the folks here have been banded for years and have a lot experience to share with others, a great site for info and support. WELCOME!!!:biggrin1:
  25. yoda is right, you can add unjury to a box of jello to get your protein in that way. go to the unjury site and it will tell you how to add the powder to jello. i ate it many times, it did not affect the taste at all, the jello will not look clear anymore is all. you can even double the amount of powder for super protein jello. if you can get all your protein in, you will not feel so starved. chew gum, suck on sugar free hard candy, whatever works---you can do this.........go, girl, go:biggrin1:
