Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
HMol84 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’ve been worried these past few weeks, since I went on a work trip and felt I messed up with my eating plans. I honestly think I have hit a stall because of this. I’m not seeing or feeling any changes in the way my clothes fit. HOWEVER.... I just had my yearly OB check up, and for the first time in over 20 years... there weren’t any cysts on my ovaries!!! I have been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) since I was about 17-18, when I was still a healthy weight. It’s something that wouldn’t go away with diets, medicine, or anything else. NOW, 8 months after my WLS, still weighing about 50 lbs (23Kgs) more than I did as a teenager, I’m PCOS-free, with no meds!!! And chatting about it with my medical team, they reminded me that the changes are not only on the scale.. but the overall improvement of our health. And not to let a little bump on the way (trip) or a stall to negate all the progress that I’ve made. -

Just went on an awesome vacation and just loved it. First, I noticed the change in how my airplane seatbelt fit. There was so much leftover belt. Then, while on a short hike, I RAN uphill (sure, only about 10 steps, but still... I RAN!) just for fun. But the most important one for me ... was the amount of pictures I allowed others to take of me. I haven’t had that many photos taken in so long.... and I felt great looking at them! -
Weightloss stall...Around 3 months post Gastric Bypass
HMol84 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot say I have much experience yet with this. However, I too have stayed off the scale even before my surgery. The only way I know how much I’m weighing, is at my monthly check-ups. At least for me, I figured it would be adding too much stress to myself to check the scale daily or weekly, and the possibility of not seeing changes would drive me crazy. It was hard last month to know I “only” dropped 6kgs (13lbs) in 1 month, but the changes in how I feel far surpass the weight loss. And of course, every once in a while, I get the feeling that I’m doing everything wrong! I’m failing! It’s easier said than done, but when I go into these thought spirals, I have to take a step back and study what it is I am doing so wrong.... Am I sticking to my schedules? Yes Am I drinking enough water? Yes Am I eating the amounts I’m supposed to be eating? Yes Am I avoiding restricted food? Yes Am I exercising? Yes .... Then WHAT am I doing wrong? NOTHING! I’m being hard on myself... that’s it! I know it isn’t the same for everyone, but taking this pause to reflect on what I’m actually doing, and realizing how much I am doing well, keeps me motivated! Hope it helps -

Not exactly an NSV, but it was still a bit of a shock for me... This weekend I went camping with friends, and we bought a 25kg (50~lbs) sack of firewood. At one point, we said we were going to carry it between 2 of us, but when the time came to do so, I decided I could carry it by myself. Slung it onto my shoulder and started walking towards our campsite (less than a block away). About halfway down, I just STOPPED.... I just realized I was carrying the same amount of weight I have lost so far. Knowing we were planning on carrying that between 2 people, or how tough it was to carry it for just a block... it made it so much clearer why it has been so hard for me to go hiking before. PS> I’m doing a lot better while hiking, and am planning a short solo trip this Saturday! -

Latest NSV: The sneakers I wear almost on a daily basis have shoelaces AND a side zipper. I tied them once in October 2023, when I first got them, and only use the zipper to put them on and take them off. Since my surgery in January, I’ve had to retie my laces twice, because the shoes are too loose now! -
CHRISSER27, I just had my first post-op control yesterday with my surgeon, and mentioned the EXACT SAME THING to him... that I was worried that I wasn’t feeling stuffed, and that I had not felt nauseous when eating, and that I was eating the full portions I have been assigned. His response: That’s great!!! That means you are eating slowly, taking small bites, and listening to your body. If you continue this way, you should NEVER feel nauseous. So, Keep up the good work!

1 week post op & HUNGRY ! Help!
HMol84 replied to AXR313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 Week Post-Op today. Yesterday, I just balled up on the floor and cried because I felt so hungry and weak. I had to remind myself that, yes, this is going to be tough, and it’s ok to feel down. ... and that my next snack was in less than an hour . Drank some water, entertained myself with a puzzle, and just waited it out. Feeling a lot better today. And have high expectations for this afternoon, when I have my first post-op control with the surgeon and the nutritionist. Please, please, please... let me add SOME variety to my meals! -
My surgery is on the 23rd as well… just one day after my birthday!!!
