I dread going back to my Job after surgery
meganannie posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've worked at Denny's for over a year now and I've worked in other restaurants as well.I grew up eating Denny's with my grandparents and its always been a comfort.I absolutely love working in the food service realm.I love cooking, serving, hosting it sucks sometimes but at the end of the day I love it! Well...Loved it.I can't imagine how I'm gonna be able to work much longer there- I mean when my parents cook its absolute torture everything smells so good but at least for the most part its relatively healthier than a restaurant and I'll be able to have solid foods in 7-8 weeks. At Denny's though everything has margarine, sugar and fat even the chicken is grilled in margarine.I don't think i'd have enough self control being around that kinda food all the time.Employees can get free soda while they work and the occasional prank call to-go order leaves food up for grabs.Maybe my opinion will change as my healing and journey progresses but as of right now I'm quite nervous.Majority of the food there will likely cause any bariatric patient dumping syndrome. Not even the salads are safe with the fat and sugar content in the dressings and the most protein packed things are made with margarine which is not measured out.I know I could not eat anything there but when you work nights like I do you rarely wanna go home and cook something not to mention sometimes its so busy you can't even eat and 4-5 hours with not eating is a no bueno coming from my surgeon. At this point it just seems extremely risky. -

I'm going back next week I think I'll be fine but I still need to get a new job anyways because the food industry does not pay very well.I'm only making 5,000 a year working there -
I started my pureed stage about 5 days ago and I'll continue it for 3-4 more weeks I'm going to talk to my doctor about this but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get through this stage more easily.I've been a bit depressed and have been sleeping a ton so I haven't been able to get much food in me.I'm drinking 3 protein shakes a day.Since it's around Christmas time I did cheat a bit.I really wanna progress to solid foods mainly because I have texture issues because of this I'm trying to stick to getting my protein mainly through the shakes.I'll have some yogurt, pudding and applesauce all sugar free of course.I'm just getting a bit mad at myself for wanting to eat junk. That's like all I think about, its frustrating because I wanna stick to the post op goals and eat healthy and not get sick or risk a leak or damage.I'm gonna talk to my NP in about 2 weeks maybe they'll have a solution and before any of you judge me for wanting to eat junk food (I haven't eaten any since before my pre surgery diet) I have a lot of trauma around food.I grew up eating out a lot because of my grandparents and in my young mind thought that food=love.I also have texture issues.Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I see a therapist every week and I'm hoping to push through.I know this is just a small part in my whole weight loss journey and eventually I will be able to eat relatively normal stuff in about 6 weeks with the occasional treat here and there. That's what I keep reminding myself that this stage is temporary. I'll be a lot happier 6 months down the road! -

I'll probably bring my own food but nothing there is safe because the grills are seasoned with bacon before anything is cooked on it -

Yeah and they season the grills with bacon before cooking anything on it.The salads are good if you bring your own dressing but be careful with the cobb because of how the protein is grilled plus it comes with bacon and these crispy chip like things called potato sticks. The boiled egg and avacodo is nice tho. -

They season the grills with bacon before they cook anything so I'll try to bring stuff in and store it in the cooler. -

I might be able to bring stuff in I'd have to ask but I know I couldn't cook there even if I wanted to (I'm an occasional cook there and they season the grills with bacon.I honestly don't think its a safe bet for me after weight loss surgery.I mean basically anything healthy has some form of grease attached from other items being cooked -
I just had gastric bypass surgury and I'm not having the problems that other people are. I haven't thrown up or had dumping syndrome.I'm in the liquid phase about to go to purees.I don't have that full or tight feeling after drinking or eating. It's like my stomach is streching or something because I had 6 oz of tomato soup and had no tightness.I always set a timer so I slow down with eating.I'm a bit concerned because most people can't handle that much or get sick but I don't how worried should I be?

Don't wanna change the topic but now I'm having like a fluttering heart when I move sometimes and It's like that feeling you get when your eyes roll back- like if you roll your eyes to far but more intense.I'm wondering if I'm low on iron I'm not supposed to take any supplements until tomorrow.I thought it was dumping syndrome at first and I just jinxed myself but I never got sick or had abdomen cramps or anything like that.I'm gonna give my surgeons office a call when they open just to be sure.I've also been extremely tired and not very hungry I've been trying to set alarms to get up and have more protein and move. I have about an 8 ounce protein shake 2-4 times a day depending on what other foods I eat that have protein.Hopefully this problem is solved or goes away soon.

So glad to hear I'm okay! I just have to remember to slow down then.I've also heard some people never experience dumping syndrome even after eating a lot of sugar or carbs.I'm hoping after a few months I can eat relatively normal again
