    December surgery

Hi, December buddies! I've been a bit out it and am just now feeling better. My procedure went well on Thursday, but when I was in the recovery room coming out of anesthesia, I threw up a bunch of blood and had to be rushed back in for an emergency EGD for a blood vessel that burst at the new site of my intestine/stomach. This caused some extra pain and a great freak out for my spouse. I was nearly transfusable. I was supposed to be released on Friday but have ended up being kept for two extra nights because my blood levels still aren't stable after the full shock. My pain is minimal now and the staff have been really lovely. My surgical team has carefully explained what happened and the nurses have been like clockwork to come do check-ups and post care. This is also a teaching hospital so all my years of watching Grey's Anatomy has made me less shy about the full audience. I'm really looking forward to getting home! I'm glad to hear that you are all recovering well and I'm taking notes on your recommendations for full fluids. You're just a little bit ahead of me. Happy new year! You can only edit on the web, not the app, and there is a little drop-down menu up by your profile with a "surgery" option. That is where you can edit all of your surgery, physician, and starting weight information. It is not very intuitive because most people try to edit it in their profile tab Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

Thanks, Lisa! I'm wishing you a successful procedure with little gas and constipation [emoji6]. I hope to check in with you later in the week. It's so exciting that the day is almost here! Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. As the clock ticks down to surgery day, I'm wondering if those of you who are post-op or are in the maintenance phase have favorite bariatric cookbooks or recipe blogs that you recommend. I see Amazon has some great bariatric cookbooks, specifically bariatric air fryer cookbooks, which I'm excited about in order to reduce cooking my protein in oil/butter. TIA! Excess skin after WLS

Did any of you pay out-of-pocket for your skin removal procedure and can you provide a range and the procedure type? My insurance already said they won't cover a Panniculectomy, unless it's due to infection. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

Looking for my December 2022 Surgery Twin

Oh, nuts. I didn't get your message but I've had a difficult time with my accounts between the app and the website. Is there any way you can message it to me again? I can send you a test message to see if it comes through. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

Looking for my December 2022 Surgery Twin

I don't know if you saw my message, but I'm on the east side of WA State and having mine in Seattle. Three more days! We can do this. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I will be sure and check it out! Thank you. My Hope Is that I will be able to modify regular recipes but I feel like I need a lot of guidance for the first several months as my family will be eating regular meals. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

    December VGS buddies//introductions

You are so close. I'm having a bypass the day after you. While the pre-op diet has been hard I understand why it's necessary. I try to remember why I decided to do WLS in the first place. If it helps, look back at the checklist and all the things you've done to make it this far! Those are huge milestones in and of itself. Rather than concentrate on all of the posts in the forum that make you question your decision, look at the thousands of positive posts where people have truly been able to change their lifestyle and regain their health. We are in this together! Stay strong. I know it's really difficult to maintain pre-op guidelines when there is sugary food everywhere, but we're doing this for ourselves. Just imagine where we will be in our journeys next December! Tell me, what is one of the milestones you are most looking forward to with weight loss? I want to be able to walk down the stairs in my house without my knees hurting and to be able to wear pants without elastic waists, again. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

Single digit countdown and now the post-op diet is in sight. I'm already starting to get a little bit depressed because the two week liquid diet pre-op is so hard for me. How are the rest of you getting through? Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

    5 years later…

As someone who is 6 days away from an RNY bypass, I appreciate your authenticity and transparency about the process and your regain. I've been reading through all of the forums and it helps me to be realistic with my own expectations and reminds me that while WLS is a tool, I will constantly need to improve my relationship with healthy food habits and exercise (which I really do enjoy). Congratulations on your ability to maintain a weight that makes you feel confident and happy! I'm eager to meet post-op milestones. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

    December surgery

I'm with you! I had to ask my nutritionist if I should quit exercising since it is less than 700 calories a day of mostly protein. I was definitely fatigued and experiencing headaches the first few days but it does seem to get better. I have had to leave the kitchen every time the family cooks a full meal or bakes holiday goodies. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

It's amazing to me how different the pre-op liver shrinking diets are from place to place. I'm on a 14-day liver shrinking diet that includes two high protein (30g) and a low carb (<30 g) shakes and then one extremely small meal with balanced macros. I'm just finishing day 6 and I would be lying if I said I wasn't hungry or dreaming about carbs. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. My surgery center has a nearly all liquid liver-shrinking diet for 14 days, but it is causing me the worst chapped lips. I've been drinking 82 - 124 oz of water and it's getting worse. Has anyone else experienced ultra dry skin & lips during the pre-op diet? Diet : Water - 48 oz. minimum Breakfast - 30 g protein shake <5 carbs Lunch - 30 g protein shake <5 carbs Dinner - light meal: 3-6 oz lean protein, <30 carbs, non-starchy vegetable, 2 servings of healthy fat spread throughout day non-starchy vegetables are unlimited throughout the day. 20. I am bothered by the fact that anyone on the internet can search the BP community and all of the forum topics, posts, profiles with our account information is available to anyone. I have vulnerable questions and want to be honest and authentic in my post and engagement with other WLS patients, but due to professional reasons am wary of the inability to privatize forums to only BP registered users. Has any thought been given to allowing user profiles to only be accessed by those who are registered users? Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

Forum privacy from non-BP account users

I appreciate these tips to maintain privacy while still being able to engage the bariatric community. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the forums and the feedback that I have received so far. I also feel like sometimes you get out what you put in, but I need to be mindful of how much is public (location, pics, name, etc). Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Thank you all for your feedback. I have noticed that they are more excessively dry after drinking a premier protein for breakfast and lunch. They are a tad chalky and it makes sense they would try out my lips. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Thank you! I kept wondering how dry they could be with drinking all of that water. I have aquaphor on hand but have never used it on my lips. I will give it a try. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Body Scale

I have the Fitbit Aria scale. It is connected via Bluetooth to my Fitbit and Fitbit app and then automatically updates my stats to the Baritastic app, which I love! It does include BMI and multi-user settings for age and other stats. I've had it for 2 years and just now had to change the batteries last month. If I step on the scale with my phone, even when I'm not wearing my Fitbit, it automatically enters my weight so there is no separate recording/logging, which is a real plus to those early morning weigh sessions.
