Should I Do It????
Texasgirl1966 replied to shouldidoit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am also 5' 1" and I weigh 217, BMI of 41 - I developed high blood pressure because of the extra weight too. I have tried so many diets that once I researched about all the weight loss surgerys and made the decision to have lap band, I knew it was the right choice for me. I haven't had surgery yet, I just finished my 6 month medically supervised program, met with the surgeon, dietition, and had my psych consult. I'm just waiting for all the papers to be completed and faxed to the insurance company for their approval. Keep thinking about how active you can be if you got the weight off, how you blood pressure will go down and you will feel better and be a happier healthier you. You are not a failure for having lap band - it is a new way of thinking and a tool to help you succeed. -

DFW docs that do the One Incision Procedure?
Texasgirl1966 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I know who the Dr is that does the 1 incision lap band procedure. I met him last week, I have chosen him to be my surgeon. He said I am a perfect candidate for this surgery. His name is Dr. Daniel Scott. He told me that he has succesfully completed 12 of the "one incision" lap band procedures since June of this year and chanel 8 news interviewed him the same day of my appointment, it is to air in the near future. He is very nice and has a good bed side manor. He is easy to talk to and answered all my questions. He is at UT Southwestern medical center in Dallas 214-645-2900. Good luck to you. -

I haven't been banded yet either, my friend was banded 08/04/08 and I asked her about the sweet and carb cravings. She said once you ween yourself off them your craving decrease or pretty much go away. I sure hope so, I love sweets but can live without them. Good luck to you. -
I am so freaking bummed!!!!
Texasgirl1966 replied to NanaLaura's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel for you, I am really frustrated right now too. I have just completed my 6 month medically supervised program with my Dr. and went to meet my surgeon, dietition, and financial advisor. I was told that the information from my Dr. was not explicit enough! The financial advisor then gives me a paper that explains everything that must be documented in order to be a candidate for lap band surgery. I was never given this paper until now. My Dr. and I talked about diet and exercise but, he didn't document it as much as he documented the problems I was having with high blood pressure brought on by my obesity and high cholesterol. I am frustrated, the Dr. doesn't see how he can go back and have the dictations changed and add in the diet and exercise. He is going to call the financial advisor tomorrow and see what can be done if anything. He said we may have to start all over again and do another 6 month program. It makes me want to give up and just not have lap band. I was already focusing on getting insurance approval and being on my way to having surgery. I've already met my deductable for this year and to wait until next year will mean a lot more money. -
Good luck on the speedy healing and up comming lap band surgery. I know it seems like November is far away, it will be here before you know it.

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Texasgirl1966 replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to all the October bandsters. I am hopefull for an October date. I met with my surgeon, dietition and financial agent yesterday. I have one last appointment with my MD tomorrow and appointment with the psychitrist on Friday morning. Then the waiting to hear back from the insurance begins. I hope I will have my surgery in late October. Keep your fingers crossed:thumbup: -
I was also told by my insurance that anything under a 40.0 BMI is not a candidate for lap band. I was a 39.8 at the time. I later found out that I wasn't quite as tall as I thought, so that pushed my BMI to 40.2! I did develop high blood pressure and that only added to my need for lap band surgery. I have my first appointment with the surgeon and nurse on 09/09/08. Psych consult on 09/12/08. Good luck to you.

Silicone or Saline ?
Texasgirl1966 replied to coltonwade's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband and I have already discussed this, if I loose the weight I am planning on then I'd like to have breast augmentation surgery. It seems my breast is where I always loose weight first. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Texasgirl1966 replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hopeing to be banded in October. I have my 5th of 6 medically supervised Dr. appointments today. I have an appointment scheduled for Sept. 9 with the surgeon, nurse and financial agent. Sept. 12 I have an appointment with the psychologist. I am hoping for an October surgery date. I've been told it takes about 30 days for the insurance to review and approve. My BMI is 40.2, 216 lbs and I'm only 5' 1". I would love to have surgery at the end of September but I'm trying to just focus on it taking a little more time. If it happens earlier, I will be thrilled. -
