I am having the same problem. I have 6 cc in a 10cc band. I have started avoiding eating solid meats as it makes me uncomfortable every time. I was hoping it would ease up, but it hasn't. I am up 2 lbs due to eating slider foods and too much salt and carbs trying to avoid getting stuck. I am going to send an e-mail to my surgeon and see if I can get in for a small unfill. At my last fill he was going to put in 1 cc, but then decided to add 2 cc - guess he should have gone with the 1 cc. I am not scheduled to go back to see him for 3-4 months, but hopefully they can fit me in. It is a 2 hour drive, but I am willing to take a day off from work and make the drive as I am getting discouraged.

What time are you thinking of meeting?

Restriction will make you feel full longer. Eating too fast, not chewing well, or eating non-band friendly foods will make you uncomfortable or have pain. Most people don't feel any restriction after the first fill. I know I didn't and I was still really hungry after a couple of hours. So yes the band does make you eat slower and chew better and once you have restriction it will make you feel full longer. But until you get the proper amount of restriction, it is still will power that gets you from meal to meal.

1st post and 1st fill
momcof3 replied to Melissa Cotton's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't feel any restriction after my first fill of 4 cc either - I think that is pretty normal. I do feel restriction now after my second fill of 2 cc. -
I am told to do clear liquids for 24 hours, then soft food for 24 hours, and then I can eat regular food.

My surgeon gave me a series of four pictures - first one shows them lifting my liver, second one shows my stomach before banding, third one shows my stomach with the band on it, and the fourth one shows after they put my liver back down. He gave the picture to me when I was in recovery, but I was out of it and didn't take it home with me. Luckily it had my name on it and it ended up back in my file. He mailed it to me. I showed some people - I think it looks cool.

I already had life insurance before lapband surgery and my premium was higher because I was morbidly obese. Since losing 67 lbs, I went to see my agent to see if I could get my premium lowered due to weighing less. She seems to think I can. A guy came to my house on Sat and weighed and measured me and took my blood pressure. I am interested to see what happens now after reading the posts here. I had a hysterectomy and the lapband this last year. I will let you know what happens.

I use Benefiber in my water at least twice a day. You can't use Metamucil as it swells.

I had surgery at 8 am, did the barium swallow at 10 am, and was being driven out of the parking lot at 12:30 the same day.

Help! How do you take all the vitamins
momcof3 replied to Carolina Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We were told about taking the vitamin and calcium at least two hours apart at our pre op nutrition class. I found this on a bariatric vitamin site "Take one hour apart from other vitamins and minerals (especially iron)." I haven't tried drinking hot tea in the morning - I don't do caffeine at all, but I will try decaff. thanks for the hint. -

Help! How do you take all the vitamins
momcof3 replied to Carolina Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told to take the calcium chew at least 2 hours before or after the multi-vitamin otherwise it won't absorb properly. Wow, you take a lot of supplements. I only take one chewable multi-vitamin in the am, one calcium chew in the afternoon, and one sub-lingual B12 in the evening. I do take two small pills and a stool softener in the morning before I chew my vitamin and that is hard enough to get down that early in the morning. -
When I had my second fill on the 16th, I asked my surgeion "all 4 cc came out right?" he said he could only get 2 cc out - I kind of freaked and he said let me try again and he was able to get 4cc out before he added 2 more cc in. He said something like he wasn't in the exact right spot the first time. Did your doctor try a second time to withdraw the original ccs?
-
I just started taking the sub-lingual B12 after having follow up blood work - my surgeon said my B12 level was normal but he likes to see it higher. I got the sub-lingual B12 at Wal Mart for less than $4 a bottle.
-
check with your doctor's office - I was told absolutely no Metamucil as it swells up. The one I am allowed to take is Benefiber. I put the powder in my water twice a day and it enables me to go, however I am still working on figuring out to make it softer. ouch.

First fill on 1/29/09
momcof3 replied to Lisadawnh35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are talking about the actual fill - my surgeon numbs the area and then does a blind fill - he said he can feel the port and knows he has hit it by the feel when the needle goes in. I have to drink some water to make sure it goes down and then I can leave. After my first fill I had 4 cc in my 10cc band and felt restriction - but only for a couple of days. After that I didn't feel any restriction. Now I have 6 cc and I definitely feel restriction. -
I take one chewable Flinstones complete in the morning and a Kirkland Calcium chew and a B-12 sublingual in the afternoon. I don't know when you had your surgery, but it took me a couple of months to have any energy - I was always tired. My dietician said that is normal as your body is recovering from surgery and adjusting.

I had surgery at 8 am, was being driven home at 12:30 pm the same day. I didn't drive for about 1 1/2 weeks as I was still taking Lortab. I was home from work for two weeks as I was way too sore to sit at a desk all day.
-
I always weigh with my shoes off. I just take them off and get on the scale - just have to make sure you have socks on. I did the EKG in Sacramento. I did the chest x-ray and blood work in Richmond as I was there anyway and figured it would be faster than having to park again in Sacramento.
-
I put Benefiber powder in at least two of my waters daily. I was told absolutely not to take Metamucil in any form or any similar products as they swell up and that is not good after being banded. I also take a stool softener daily and both are helping me be able to go about every two days without pain.

Friday Morning Weigh in - 23rd Jan 2009
momcof3 replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Weight last Friday - 222 Weight today - 219 I am down 3 lbs. Getting the fill last week really helped. -
I was banded Aug 26 and had my first fill of 3 cc on Oct 6 - 1 cc was in there from surgery - so I had 4 total. I just had my second fill on Jan 16 and he added 2cc to the 4cc for a total of 6 cc. I definitely feel restriction now. You can always ask them for a clarification of how much you have total now.

My program also has the "no protein shakes" rule. I have stuck to that except for the day after a fill as I can only have liquids then. I have 6 cc in a 10cc band and I am able to eat about an hour after I get up in the morning. Tightness varies from person to person. I have keep a food diary and show it to them before they decide if I get a fill and if I had shakes and wrote them down, I doubt I would be able to get the fill as they want to see that I am following the program rules. Stick with what your surgeon tells you.
-
I finally got my second fill today. I had 4 cc and he added 2 cc so now I have 6 cc in a 10 cc band. Wasn't too bad - the one that hurts is the numbing needle. I don't go back for 2-3 months so hopefully this will help.

When I was at Richmond last Friday I overheard one of the office people tell a lady that if she weighed in at her local Kaiser to make sure the local Kaiser enters it into the online part and then to call Richmond and let them know so they would look it up. I don't think they know you weigh in at your local Kaiser unless you tell them. I doubt they go looking for it for all the patients they have.
