  1. Last Supper Syndrome (LSS) has bitten me hard. I made my appointment for surgery on August 25th. Since that day, I have gained 10lbs. It's only been one month!!!!! :girl_hug: My surgery is on November 5th, and even though I'm only required to do a 7-day pre-op diet, I think I'm going to start on October 5th. I've got to quit sodas and quit drinking beer before I get banded, and that might take a few weeks. Plus, if I don't stop eating everything in sight, I'm going to have to buy BIGGER clothes, LOL.

Tell Me If This Makes Sense

I still vote for mashed cauliflower. I'll call your doctor and bug him if you want! :girl_hug: No pureed veggies just sounds cruel. You need your vitamins!
  3. Eh, that's where I get lost. I'm not sure exactly what Ketosis means. I think it has something to do with your body releasing ketones, but I don't even know what ketones are, LOL. I suggest searching Wikipedia to find out the real facts about Ketosis. But bad breath is probably just a side effect of that.

so im on this new kick...

YIKES! First of all, eating junk will make you gain weight - so you're on the right track there. However, eating very little will also make you gain weight - in a roundabout sort of way. When you severely restrict calories, i.e. eating less than 800 calories a day, your body goes into starvation mode. When that happens, any and everything you put into your mouth is stored as fat, because your body thinks that it's starving and that it needs to preserve as much as possible. The best way to balance this is to eat between 800 and 1200 calories per day. But vary it a little. Eat 800 cals one day, 1200 cals the next, 1000 cals the next, etc. Constantly change it up so that your body can't adjust and you will maximize your weightloss results. The more small meals you eat in a day, the better your metabolism gets and the faster you can burn calories and lose the weight. Eating once a day slows down your metabolism, which in turn slows the weight loss. It's all a vicious cycle, I tell ya :rolleyes2: Please please please, don't starve yourself. I promise you, any extra weight you lose as a result of not eating will eventually come back - as soon as you get back to a normal eating schedule.

    How much time off?

haha, first of all you won't be two sizes smaller in 3 weeks. :rolleyes2: maybe after two months... also, i had this question as well when i was working out my days off once i made my surgery date. the younger you are, the quicker you bounce back - obviously. i read a lot of people's opinions on this site and came to the conclusion that for an office setting in which you sit at a desk and don't have to do a lot of walking around (which is my situation), one week from the date of surgery is probably long enough. i am having surgery on a weds and going back to work the following thurs. i have a feeling i'll be ready to go sooner than that, but just to be on the safe side, i have the option of staying out longer if i need it. if you take a LOA then you'll definitely have time to heal and feel better, but you'll also probably be bored to tears after a week and be begging for something to do - i know i would! an office setting with a desk job won't be very stressful, so i think you should be fine to go back after a week. but hey, i'm not a doctor, and everyone is different! now watch, i'm talking all big and bad that i'll be able to go back within a week - i'll probably be crying like a baby begging someone to put me out of my misery and be out of work a month! :sneaky: that would just be my luck. then my husband could really say I TOLD YOU SO!

Tell Me If This Makes Sense

I'm with you 100% about not wanting to eat carbs. For the last two years I have avoided them like the plague. Alas, we must do what's right for our bodies. This too shall pass! No veggies? Wow, that seems a bit extreme. If you've pureed the heck out of it, I don't see why it would hurt you. Seriously, with a food processor it becomes the consistency of mashed potatoes, and I was under the impression that the mushies phase was just to help you heal your band, and had nothing to do with what you were eating, just the consistency of what you were eating. Personally, I'd check with my doctor and ask if pureed food is OK, even if it's veggies. But that's just because I'm stubborn and ask a lot of questions. :rolleyes2:
  7. Sounds like Ketosis to me! Have you ever done the Atkins low-carb diet? When you restrict carbs, your body goes into Ketosis. I don't really understand exactly what happens in your body when you are in Ketosis, but I do know that some side effects are bad breath and smelly urine. :rolleyes2: Check out Wikipedia for more information on the science aspect of Ketosis. If you aren't taking in very many carbs, it's possible that this is what is going on. Most sugar free products have few carbs, and some Protein shakes are also low-carb. When my body is in Ketosis, I also notice my sense of smell shoots through the roof, and nearly everything smells funky to me.

The whole point of eating the mushy foods during that stage is to let your band continue to heal - which could take up to 6mos to fully heal. The first month is critical though, so you have to eat the mushies to make sure you don't hurt yourself or your band. Unfortunately, it just so happens that almost all of the mushies are full of carbs. I agree, it sucks - but would you rather eat carb-filled mushies and make sure your band heals, or push it with something that isn't necessarily mushy but is low-carb? Personally, I'd stick to the mushies, carbs or not, until I'm healed - then I'd get back to the low-carb thing. Also - if you've got a food processor, mashed cauliflower is a FANTASTIC alternative to mashed potatoes. Use a little garlic...mmm mmm good. :rolleyes2:

What are we going to eat????

I've read several places on this site where people have said Day 3 post-op is the worst! Just an overall yucky day for pain I guess. I think Day 3 is also the first day your hunger starts to come back I think? Either way, if you do go to Mom's house, make sure you have a bedroom you can sneak away to if you need to relax and nap a little!!! Good luck!
  10. Hey Munchie, you should do something like this on their side of the fence - except make it neon green and neon orange!!!! :rolleyes2: (hope this picture works, lol) ...or you could go really really tacky and hire someone to do this!!! of course, i wouldn't make such a pretty beach scene. i'd put a really fat hairy man on one side of the beach, and a dog taking a dump on the other side!
  11. Completely unrelated - but you might want to fix your ticker. It shows that you've gained 230lbs and you've 74lbs to go - something tells me that's not right, LOL

Sorry for "gross" Topic : urine

I am not sure, but I thought you could be in Ketosis without actually consuming a lot of Protein. I thought Ketosis occurs when you severely restrict carbs. So, you could be avoiding carbs (resulting in Ketosis and smelly urine) but you could also be not getting enough protein (resulting in hairloss). Again, I'm not sure if my perception of Ketosis is correct. I think I'll GOOGLE it now though, LOL. EDIT: Yes, I was right. According to Wikipedia, your body will go into Ketosis when you restrict carbs, i.e. the things that contribute to blood glucose. So it is entirely possible you're cutting out carbs as well as not getting enough protein. Woohoo, I learned something today!!!

    Has anyone heard of...

I guess coverage is different for everyone, even if you have the same insurance. I have PHCS and I had to have a BMI of 40+ (which I didn't have). If I'd met the BMI requirements, I would have been required to have a psych eval, nutritionist eval, all sorts of blood work and tests, not to mention an 18-month doctor supervised diet. Since I have a 38 BMI, I wasn't eligible for the insurance, so I'm doing self-pay. Hell, even if I did have a 40 BMI I wouldn't have gone through insurance. 18-months of supervised diet??? Yeah right! Once I made the decision to get the band, I was not willing to wait another 18-months just to apply for insurance coverage, ya know?
  15. You're such a hottie now, you'd have every eye in the house on you - but in a good way
  16. Simply stunning!!!! Go for it, tape your puppies in and you'll be fine!
  17. That is honestly the first post I've ever regret posting. Who knew an opinion would be so ill-recieved?
  18. I'm not the one who said it first, mind you. I just chimed in that the other person wasn't the only one who thought that way. I'm not trying to criticize anyone! Definitely not trying to be rude. A lot of the choices made in this thread are very good choices, and have helped me get an idea of what kinds of meals I can have once I'm banded. But there are a few meal choices and daily diets that make me wonder why they bothered getting the band in the first place? I just think that protein has a lot better forms than meatballs and pork rinds.
  19. Well, I just started reading through this thread yesterday and honestly, I had thought the same thing! I just didn't want to say it. Someone's daily diet consisted of meatballs, pork rinds, kit kat bars and yogurt...I mean, seriously people???!!!
  20. I'm also someone who drinks something with every meal, almost with every bite I take. It's just habit, I guess. I've read that the only way to really overcome the whole "drinking while eating" thing is to just not make yourself anything to drink. When you sit down to eat, don't have a glass anywhere near you - seriously. I fear this is probably the only way I'll be able to overcome the addiction I have to drinking while eating.
  21. But today is only the 22nd...

    Group Name Ideas.

If you created your own glittery word and are trying to paste it into your signature straight from the website, then it's possible there are lots of tags around it (aka advertisement) that are making it lengthy that just aren't necessary to be there. Try copying my word if you want. Right-click on my word and select Properties. Copy the web address for the glittery word, and then paste that web address into your signature with image tags around it. Or just look at the code for the one you created yourself and remove all the "fluff" from the code, leaving just the web address for the glitter word and two image tags. Sorry, I don't really know how to explain it in words...lol. I'd say give me your username/password and I can set it up for you, but that's a bit "out there", hahaha. Good luck!
  23. Thanks for the feedback!!! :rolleyes2: Also, yet another question for my ladies. I really need to get a notebook and start writing down all the things I'm finding out, because I'll probably forget half of them come surgery time. Question: How are salads with the band? By salad, I mean iceberg lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, maybe some cheese, maybe some nuts, chopped egg...normal salad, nothin' fancy. Light or FF dressing of course. How does that go down? I'll be disappointed if I can't enjoy a good salad when I'm banded...
  24. 12/9 is a Tuesday, and that's actually about one month after my surgery and possibly the week I'll be returning to Colorado for a fill! Keep me posted on your plans, because I could potentially stay overnight the night you do the get-together and just home first thing in the morning!
