    Portion Questions?

I would say the reason you feel like you could eat more than 1 cup of food is probably because you could! :wink2: When you get the band put in it's empty, so once your stomach swelling goes down after the surgery (probably 2 weeks) you're going to be able to eat more because your band doesn't have anything in it to cause restriction. I promise there isn't anything wrong with you being able to eat more than 1 cup - but good for you for restricting yourself anyways! Once you get your first fill, you'll notice the restriction people talk about and you'll see why people say they can't eat more than 1/2 cup of food at a time. It might take more than one fill to get to that particular point, but ultimately you'll feel more restriction once you have your first fill - so don't stress!

    Let's Introduce Ourselves

:wink2: to Froggi! It will all work out, I promise!
  3. Drats!!! Now the cost of the flight has gone up by $100!!! :wink2: Could anything else go wrong? :cursing:
  4. Apparently I misunderstood them when I asked about Fridays in December. Dr. K is out on Dec 12th. :cursing: So, I have made my first fill appointment for Friday Dec 5th. If anyone is going to be getting a fill in December and wants to go with me (or just wants to pick me up and help a girl out), let me know! I fly in Friday Dec 5th at 9:45a, appointment is at 11:30a, and I fly back to NC at 3:45p. So, if anyone wants to give me a ride, I'll give you gas money AND buy your lunch!! :wink2: If not I will be going to Priceline.com to get a rental car for cheap! Unless you think a taxi to/from Dr. K's office is going to be cheaper than getting a rental? Let me know!
  5. You know, I didn't think it sounded bad when I first read the recipe. I thought, "Wow, pork rinds are low carb and they can certainly take the place of bread crumbs!" Well, it didn't dawn on me until after I'd taken it out of the oven (and saw my loaf swimming in grease) that I realized - pork rinds are just a bunch of deep fried fatty pig skins. Ugh, it makes me gag just thinking about it. Guess you could say I had a little blonde moment... :cursing: That's a plan! I'm writing it down now! LOL Typically DMB comes to Raleigh on a Weds night in August, so if he's a weekend guy in Chicago then I'd rather do that. No time off of work that way. I'll totally fly out there and hang with you guys. My first DMB concert! So excited!!! Don't you dare back out on me now Munchie, you've got my hopes up! :wink2: Booking flights now! Well, I will later this morning - once my husband calls me back with his credit card number, hehe. I don't know about an October date, but I definitely know we're planning an RR night for Tuesday November 4th. That's the night before my surgery and I'll be in town. Everyone is welcome to come out!!!
  6. Hey do you know which song it was??? There's quite a few good ones. Glad you've been introduced to DMB!
  7. Will the 12th be OK? The 28th is the week of Thanksgiving so I can't do that, seeing as how I'm cooking a huge family meal on Thursday the 27th, haha. Let me know if the 12th will work for you and I'll book flights tomorrow, as well as make the appt with Dr. K. You are such a sweetheart Dee!!!

    A Warning

I'm so happy you got some good news!!! Now I'm really paranoid about my surgery next month, since I've never had surgery before.
  10. NKOTB!! You lucky woman! They were my favorites for so long. :mad2: Please don't go giiiiiiiiirrlll!!!! :tt1:
  11. ok, so i'm always on the lookout for low carb recipes, because i usually try to restrict carbs, at least over the last few years. i found a recipe for low carb meatloaf, and i was stoked because the only real carbs in it would be from the can of tomato sauce, which really is only about 20g carbs for the whole can. the recipe called for crushed/crumbs of pork rinds instead of bread crumbs. it also called for a pound each of lean beef and pork. so...last night i cooked it. the pork would naturally make the meatloaf a little greasier (which i expected), but the pork rinds just pushed the envelope of greasiness. yuck! i sucked all the grease away from the edges of the loaf pan, flipped it over onto a plate, and the darn thing fell apart. it wasn't even cooked in the center, after being in the oven an hour! so, back into the loaf pan, back into the oven at a higher temp, and cooked for another 25mins. came out just as greasy, yet again, and by this time i had no appetite. absolutely disgusting. seriously. looks like low carb meatloaf will NOT be on my list once i'm banded. how many of you do the low carb lifestyle with the band? i'm seriously considering it - sans pork rind meatloaf of course.

    Need Advice, Please help

OK, the pre-op appointments make sense. The reason I just had a phone consult with my doctor is because I am a self-pay (not using insurance) so there really is no bloodwork or psych/nutritionist consults required. The phone consult with the doctor was simply to describe the process and give me a few pointers for before/after surgery. But, I definitely don't think you need 2 weeks to recuperate after surgery. As I said before, I'm flying home literally 48hrs after my surgery. I've got First Class seats, but that's it. Everything I've read says you will be up and walking around just a few hours after surgery, so personally I don't think you should stay in Long Island that long once you've got the band. Head on home and see your fiance and your mama! :tt1:

Based on what information you've given us, I say wait until June when you can have your mom go with you and when you can also save money on flights. However, I don't understand why you need to spend so much time out-of-state? I am having surgery in CO (and I live in NC). I have done all my pre-op things over the phone. I will fly to CO on a Tuesday, get the band on Wednesday, and fly home on Friday. That's it. Getting the band is a very minimally invasive surgery and should not require you to stay in town for 2 weeks for observation. I won't even see my doctor the day after my surgery - just a phone call to make sure I'm feeling OK. You also suggest you are being "cut open" and you don't want to die on the table and leave your mom feeling bad that she wasn't there. Sounds to me like you're referring to a gastric bypass procedure, and not a gastric banding procedure. The gastric bypass probably requires a much longer recovery than the band does, but I don't know how long.
  14. you're such a night owl! heading to bed now! g'nite!
  15. Oh yea, don't you know it! So, it's time for my weekly cry - Biggest Loser is on!
  16. Getting better! Not nearly as bruised as it was, and I can bend it a little more each day. But I'm still wearing that tacky boot.
  17. YES, I have to agree that an OCD nurse is better than an apathetic nurse! Although they might get a little crazy at times - washing their hands 100 times an hour and stuff - but at least you know you're in clean hands!
  18. I am so happy that the opportunity to talk to your neighbor presented itself! Good for you for going over to talk things out. It's amazing what a little clarity will do to people! If they are the ones who called about your dogs, then chances are they won't be doing it again because now they understand your situation. Now they know you aren't with your (soon-to-be-ex) husband anymore and that he's a stalker! This is such a good day for you. Yay!!

    A Warning

Aww you poor thing. Get well soon!!!
  20. You are SO on top of things.
  21. :tt2: I only posted it here to vent. Sure, that's how I feel, but I shouldn't get so bent out of shape about it and I know that, LOL. I've just been so cranky for the last month and a half waiting for my daggone surgery. It's like PMS 24/7. Sorry I had a little verbal diarrhea earlier. I'm over it now, haha. Well...I'm over it until someone else steals my glitter words again.

    Carbonation....

I think it's just hilarious that every doctor has a different opinion. I mean, they're all putting in the same band essentially, so why does every doctor have different pre-op and post-op requirements? Some doctors don't require pre-op diets, and some require Optifast for 4 weeks - what a drastic difference! Some doctors make you stay on liquids post-op for 3 weeks, and others have you eating mushies in 10 days. It just boggles my mind how doctors can vary so greatly in their instructions when they're all pretty much putting the same piece of silicone into our bodies, you know?

    Carbonation....

One thing I've learned on here is that every doctor is different in what he wants for his band patients, so call and ask your doctor. :w00t: However, I've read just about everything you can possibly read about this whole Lap Band thing, and everything I've read says that having carbonated beverages (including that Oh-So-Yummy Miller Lite) will cause an excess of air bubbles in your little pouch, which in turn will cause burping. Burping is a bad thing, because it can cause your band to move around and possibly lead to slippage. Of course, I think this applies specifically to the first 6mos when your band is still healing inside your body, as far as the stitches go. Once you're completely 100% healed, I don't see how one beer can actually hurt you, as long as you drink it really slow. I'd let it get a little flat first though, just to make sure you don't have lots of bubbles. But, who wants a semi-warm, flat Miller Lite? Not me! Believe me, I'm struggling with the "No Miller Lite" thing right now. I'm getting banded in a month, and I'm currently trying to quit sodas and beer. I've got a 3-a-day soda habit, and I bet I drink at least one beer 5 nights a week. So it's killing me to think about quitting beer for good. But if it keeps my band from slipping and/or eroding, then I'm willing to do it!!!
