Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
jmegirl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
OK ladies, I've got 8 days left.:w00t: I'm struggling a little with the whole "Drink 3 protein supplements a day" rule. I have several questions. What are my options for protein supplements? Protein powder mixed into skim milk? EAS low-carb protein shakes (or some other brand like Atkins or Slim Fast)? Those high protein 3oz bullets that we talked about a week ago mixed in with Crystal Light? I'm going to need to do 3 of these per day, correct? Once I'm onto mushies, probably just one protein supplement a day, right? Or do I continue with the protein supplements 3 times a day until I'm on solid food? Also, am I allowed to have SPLENDA at anytime?? I know they say to stay away from sugar, but certainly Splenda is OK? Did I mention I'm freaking out here????? -
Post Op Diet Grocery List?
jmegirl replied to gracie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor may want you on clear liquids for a week, so don't just move to full liquids without checking with him! One thing I've learned on LBT - every doctor is different with his pre-op and post-op diets. It's kinda bad if you ask me. You'd think if everyone was putting in the same band, they'd have the same Before and After Care. -
Yup, even scuba diving is allowed once you've recovered from surgery...typically about 4 weeks.

Done with Mushies... week 5, any meal suggestions?
jmegirl replied to littlebylittle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there is a fabulous thread in the food and Nutrition forums that can really help you with ideas. it gets probably 30 posts per day from people with their daily menus. here's a link. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/share-ideas-what-did-you-eat-today-36828/ -
Post Op Diet Grocery List?
jmegirl replied to gracie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having surgery a week from Wednesday! I'm going shopping this weekend!! Here's what's on my list: Day 1-2 Clear Liquids apple juice sf Jello cups sf popsicles sf hard candies (to possibly curb sweet cravings) sf mints (to help with bad breath) ff chicken broth tea bags splenda packets Day 3-14 Full Liquids various flavors of crystal light EAS low-carb Protein drinks ff milk various flavors of Protein powder sf pudding sf hot chocolate V8 juice grits cream of wheat creamy Soups (tomato, cream of broccoli) Also on my list, items that are non-food: liquid tylenol gas-x strips  Hope that helps! If anyone has other ideas, let me know. The menu for the first two weeks is looking sort of grim, haha. -
Ahh, I understand. I figured as much. If you don't mind (because I tend to get lazy about preparing meals and will probably do just this quite a bit), could you post the names of the LC meals you eat, the ones with higher proteins and lower calories??
-
I'm curious. I've noticed you ate 3 Lean Cuisine's a day the last few days. Do you do that often? Any particular reason? Just curious

You don't need people to be nice to you right now. You need people to be honest with you and tell you how dangerous it was that you swallowed gum and that you ate mashed potatoes only one week post-op!!! How do you think your doctor will react to the news??? Oh, it's OK honey, it'll probably pass, no worries, you'll be fine. I don't think so! What you did could have seriously hurt you and could have lead to you losing the band. You don't need nice, you need a swift kick in the pants to let you know that what you did was bad bad bad and to make sure you follow doctor's orders from here on out! Bitch or not, I tell it like it is. That being said, I truly do hope you are OK.
-
First, I can't believe you chewed (and swallowed gum!!) at one week post-op. Second, I can't believe you then ate a bowl of mashed potatoes....at one week post-op. Sheesh. I hope you're OK...but seriously, it's hard to have sympathy for something like that.
-
Oh my goodness!!!! You've only been banded a week, so you're swollen right now and that is your restriction. Yikes!!! Call your doctor ASAP!! And please let us know how everything turns out!!!

If these women in my office don't SHUT UP about needing to go on a diet, I'm going to scream!!!!! :cursing: Seriously, there are 6 women including myself in my office (we're in a male-dominated industry), and I swear not one of them is over 130lbs. Then there's me, the big girl. They're all thin and in great shape. That hasn't ever bothered me. But right now, they're standing around in a little group right near my desk, talking about how they need to go on a diet, and that they're starting to gain weight. "Oh my, I've gained like 5lbs, I've got to get it off of me. UGH." "Yea, I can always tell when I start to gain weight, I start to get the bye-bye arm and my arm jiggles, I just can't have that! Gross!" GEEZ WOMEN!!! Do you have any idea how disgusting it makes me feel when you're 5 feet away from me, scoffing at your size 4 frame???? The worst part is that the skinniest one, she's about 6' tall and maybe 110lbs soaking wet - she looks over at me as they're discussing this. We meet eyes, and then she looks away and starts talking about "letting herself go" since she got married a year ago. I MEAN REALLY PEOPLE?!?! Of course they don't know I"m getting the band in 12 days. I can't wait to lose this weight. I feel so grossly fat right now.

They should do a "Where are the now?" for all the Biggest Loser contestants. Go to their hometown and see if they've kept it off or gained it back. I'd be interested in seeing something like that!
-
I will say that watching this season's contestants perform that slip-n-slide challenge the other week was quite humorous.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

YAY I'm so happy the trip to NY went well. Let us know if/when we can see how it all turned out!! Starbucks dude loves his dog, and that's a good thing since you're such a dog lover yourself. But as you said, he's older, and you're trying to get away from that. Comedian guy is younger (which is a plus) but he's sort of a wimp - which isn't always a bad thing. Seems like you have been leaning towards Comedian guy since you met them both, so I say make it work with Comedian guy (if that's an option?) and tell Starbucks Dog Lover that you're just not ready for a relationship. Sheesh, I sound like a shrink. Hello, I'm Dr. Jaime. That'll be $300. HIGH FIVE!!!! That's awesome. Way to go! -

Actually, I was referring to LapBandTalk as a whole being slow. The whole website was lagging, it wouldn't refresh the screen very fast at all, and I've seen a lot of "double posts" from yesterday, which tells me they were having server issues. I wasn't talking about the Dr. K thread! Although it has been kinda quiet. But that's OK - sometimes life happens! PS - Thx for adding me on Myspace Munchie!!!! I'm trying hard to think of a new name for you! -
That's one problem I have with the show. They force the women to wear sports bras so that their belly hangs out. And the men can't get on the scale without taking their shirt off. At first I thought the men were just trying to get rid of that extra pound by taking off the t-shirt and flip-flops, but that's not the case. I read in one of the contestant's Q&A blogs a few seasons ago that the weigh-in is actually first thing in the morning - the morning after the last chance workout. They weigh-in as soon as they get up but the contestants don't find out what they weigh. Then they film the "weigh-in" that night. How's that for trickery???

Way to go!!! High five!!!! OK this board seems to be really struggling as far as slowness goes, so I think I'm gonna get to work and stay off of here for a little while. Would probably do me some good.... PS - 13 days left you guys. CAN YOU FEEL IT BABY????!!!!:tt2::cool2::w00t::thumbup: -
That's awesome! I'm glad you've found your sweet spot and have got a plan that works for you. Personally I think you should eat 5 small meals a day, to keep your metabolism up. It makes the most sense. But I guess a nutritionist is weary that we'll all start overeating again if allowed 5 meals a day, so she wants us to have fewer meals. Oh well. I'll adhere to her "3 meals a day" rule, but once I've been banded a few months, if I don't like the weightloss I'm seeing then I may switch to smaller portions 5 times a day. Of course, I've not even got a band yet. I'm practically counting the hours til I get mine!
-
I'm just curious...Did your surgeon/nutritionist recommend 5 meals a day? I asked about this and my nutritionist was vehement - for the band to do it's job, I need to stick to 3 meals a day. Of course, she was also vehement that snacking was bad, and it's obvious in this thread that snacks are a part of almost everyone's day. Just trying to find out what works best for everyone!

Your doctor allows you to have soda?? Everything I've read says carbonation is a no-no. -
Well shucks, it's $4.09 for a Venti Chai in my area. You should move to my neck of the woods!

Another faithful BL watcher here. I absolutely love it. I cry during every episode! I love that they've started showing updates at the end of each episode too, showing the person that got kicked off how they look today. I won't go so far as to say it's inspiring though. The only thing that show has inspired me to do is to NOT try out for Biggest Loser! They push too hard, and they encourage drama with the way they do the weigh-ins. I hate that a 5lb weightloss in one week (which is great!) can become a bad thing if your team needed you to lose 7lbs, ya know? And it bugs me that people will sabotage themselves (and drink lots of Water the night before the weigh-in) just to "play the game" one week, so then they put up high numbers one week later when it looks like they've lost a lot more then they really have. Like for instance, this week the guy on the Blue team (Brady) only lost 3lbs. That's bullsh!t if I've ever seen it! He bulked up on water the night before the weigh-in, I guarantee it. Especially given the grins that he and his wife were shooting at each other before he got on the scale. And next week, he'll probably lose 20lbs and be the biggest loser of the week! It's those kinds of situations that irk me. I'm addicted to BL because it really is an entertaining show. But I like BL for the same reasons I like all those other reality shows, and that's the drama. I don't watch BL for any kind of diet/exercise tips.

Live it up girl! As much as I love being a wife, I sort of miss my dating years. Of course, I was dating back when I was much smaller. If I was dating now I'd probably never go out in public, which means I probably wouldn't be dating very much, LOL!! :cool2: You'll be there in spirit, and we'll be thinking of you! -
Hi Bozzj, I've noticed over the weeks that you have a chai tea latte nearly every morning. Do you work at Starbucks, or do you buy them every morning? Or, do you make your own, and how do you do it? I just love the Starbucks chai tea, but it's over $4 for a large!

sorry...meant to say "answer me soon" to the girl who originally posted about the stretched pouch, not to you  in my haste for an answer, i quoted the wrong person
