Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
jmegirl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Well, I took the pain meds about 3:30a this morning, and I was able to hold off on more meds until about 1:30p this afternoon, so that tells me the pain is slowly subsiding. I am going to take the liquid tylenol tonight before bed if I need it, and I'll see if that does the trick and helps me sleep. If so, then Bye Bye Poopy Meds!!! -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
jmegirl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
The flight (in First Class!) was great. However, it seems I'm having a reaction to the Hydrocodone that not many others have. At least, if they've had this reaction, they didn't post about it, and I didn't know to expect it. I've had terrible, terrible, almost explosive gas and liquid runs. I know, it's disgusting, but it's the truth. Since it started on Day 2, it has not stopped. With every dose of pain meds, I get this horrible gassy rumbling in my tummy and I'm in the bathroom almost every 15 mins. It only stops when I sleep! This made the flights back (and all that time in the airport) a little hard to tolerate. I guess I'm just special, haha. But luckily, I haven't had the shoulder/chest/back gas pains. Just the ones south of the border. -

Constipation or the other????
jmegirl replied to mljalways's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did anyone have the runs AFTER surgery? I've had (sorry to sound gross) quite literally explosive gas and runs since Day 2. I can only imagine it's got something to do with the Hydrocodone pain meds I'm on. Did anyone else experience this, because I certainly didn't read anything about it on this site??? -

How long did you wait to drink protein shakes
jmegirl replied to twinmommy2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Am I in the minority here as far as hunger goes? I'm not the least bit hungry, and haven't been hungry since being banded 4 days ago. Just an hour ago I allowed myself my first "Full Liquids" item - an individual cup of sf vanilla pudding, and I was feeling extremely stuffed by the time I finished it. My first protein shake will be this afternoon. -
Day 4 and scared to eat - advice?
jmegirl replied to jmegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, i woke up feeling really tight this morning (tightness in my chest making it difficult to breathe deeply). i drank about 8oz of crystal light this morning, then i finally got the courage to eat an individual cup of sf vanilla pudding. it took me ten minutes to get it down, but boy am i stuffed!!! unfortunately my surgeon doesn't allow warm/hot full liquids until after Day 5, so i can't have soup, grits, or oatmeal just yet. i think this afternoon i'll try a protein shake. -

Good luck Tally! I hope you get things situated before going all the way back to Florida. It was so great to meet you and Denise and Brandy the other night. I'm glad I made it out, even though I had to cut it short. Question - I'm almost out of pain meds. Will Dr. K call more in if I ask him to, or will he tell me to just use Liquid Tylenol??? -
i had my surgery almost 12hrs ago and just now i'm starting to feel the horrible gas pains in my shoulders and chest. i'm in a hotel and don't have access to a heating pad. i'm about to take the pain meds again - will they help with the gas pains? also, how long (days) will i have this terrible gas pain? i've been walking laps around the hotel every couple of hours, and i know that's supposed to help...but just now i did 3 laps and it didn't help the pains at all. need advice

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jmegirl replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so happy to help ease your mind. You'll be happy to know that I'm coming up on 48hrs since being banded, and the only thing I've got a problem with is....don't read this if you're easily offended....liquid poops. It's true what they say - Liquid in means liquid out. I've already ruined one pair of lounge pants! If you think you have to pass gas, take a second and go to the toilet, because chances are it's something more powerful! :smile2: I think that's honestly the best advice I can give you!!! -

Good luck!!!!! You're going to be fine! :smile2: -
I've heard of people getting depressed in the first 2 months after surgery because they aren't able to eat as much as they used to, or they aren't able to eat the foods they used to love. That kinda thing can certainly cause depression of some kind. But if you've been somewhat depressed for 7 months, I would say there's something more going on in your head and you should go talk to someone. Good luck!

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jmegirl replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So here I am, almost 36hrs after surgery. Last night the gas pains started, but luckily it seems the pain meds tend to mask the gas pains for a little while, and Gas-X does the trick too. I don't feel nearly as good today as I did yesterday right after surgery, and I think I've got one or two more "bad" days before they start getting better. But I still maintain that this is the best decision I ever could have made for myself! -
walk walk walk = how many minutes at a time?
jmegirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i've been told walking helps gas pains tremendously. but how long is everyone walking? i am doing about 3 laps around the hotel at a time, which isn't more than 5 minutes. but after 5 minutes my legs are tired and i want to stop. i'm convinced i am not walking enough. all you folks who have been there and done this, i'd appreciate knowing just how long "walk walk walk" was for you? :rolleyes2: ps - i had my surgery at 10am on weds nov 5th. -

I think I'll be at Panera tonight to meet you ladies! I need to get out of this hotel, I'm going stir crazy. Besides, the fresh air and walking will do me good :rolleyes2: Dee, keep your phone on - I may get lost, hahah. -
Notorious November Weightloss Spreadsheet
jmegirl replied to Froggi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Froggi, could you update my goal weight? I originally said 165, but I told my doctor 175 at my pre-op consultation. So I've got my ticker counting me down to 175, if you could update the spreadsheet that would be great! :rolleyes2: -
Anyone cheat on preop diet?
jmegirl replied to nicholeinaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BEER! Ah yes, yummy beer. I think I'd give up sodas the rest of my life if I could just have beer. Sadly, beer is OUT once you have the band. So it's best to just give it up. It was hard for me, so that's the reason I cheated with a few of them during my pre-op. You're not much bigger than me, so I'm betting you won't have nearly as fat a liver as you think you will. Especially if you've lost 9lbs this quick! -

I just called Delta Airlines and they said I need a note from the doctor stating I had surgery and I need my meds with me on the plane. He said that should suffice and security shouldn't give me a problem. So I'm having Mary at Dr. K's office fax me a note to the hotel. Hopefully that'll fix any problems that may arise. Mom got me Gas-X, and so far so good. Though I'm only an hour and a half in on the pain meds, so those could be helping the gas as well. I need to get up and start walking again, but my legs get so tired that it's hard to keep walking. Just how much walking did you ladies do? Like, how long did you walk at a time? -
Anyone cheat on preop diet?
jmegirl replied to nicholeinaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a 7 day low carb diet, basically all the meat and green veggies i could eat. but i could also have whole milk and fruit. Day 1 - cheated with 1 miller lite beer Day 3 - cheated with 1 miller lite beer Day 6 - when we were traveling to colorado for my surgery, my mom got hashbrowns with her Breakfast at the airport, and i stole 3 of them. they were about the size of a quarter. in all honesty, i'm convinced that the heavier you are, the more important your pre-op liver-shrinking diet is. i'm a 39.2 BMI, and when i told my doctor about the 2 beers and 3 hashbrowns, he said he didn't think that would matter at all. he's got a story about French Fry Woman - the only person he ever had to turn away because her liver was too big. she couldn't give up french fries, and over her 14 day diet i guess she had them a few days. when he got in there, he couldn't even see the stomach because the liver was so big - but she was a 57 BMI. i'm not a doctor, so take all this information as just my opinion. -
calling all nurses - ice pack after surgery?
jmegirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it figures, this is the one question i forgot ask. they gave me an ice pack for my incision sites today (i had surgery about 11hrs ago). i've had it on my belly for probably 8hrs of the last 11hrs. i just woke up from a little nap and my incision sites are really cold (obviously from the ice) but it seems as though they're a little more sore than the were the rest of the afternoon. for the record, i feel fantastic - better than i ever expected to feel. i'm wondering if i should have the ice on my belly as much as i have today? if not, how often should i put the ice on there, and for how long at a time? also, how long should i contine to use the ice pack? thanks in advance -
calling all nurses - ice pack after surgery?
jmegirl replied to jmegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok...ice pack on the stomach for incision site swelling...but heating pad for chest/back/shoulder area for gas pains. we're in a hotel so i don't have access to a heating pad, but i will tomorrow night when i get home. but here's the thing: i feel like i'm trapping the gas in my chest by using the ice pack on my stomach. is this right? -

This is too funny not to share. I hope I don't offend!! If you've just had a lap band put in, and you feel that you have to fart - go sit on the toilet!! Don't just sit there in the bed and think it will be a normal fart. Cuz then you'll mess your pants like a 2yr old and your mom will laugh at you! :rolleyes2::tt1::tt2: Dangit, and I was gonna wear these lounge pants home tomorrow!!! -

Ladies who flew home, how did you get your big bottle of pain medicine on the plane? What kinda proof do I need? Also, the refrigerated antibiotics he gave me...same question, how do I get them on the plane with me? Since those have to be refrigerated, I can probably give them to the stewardesses to put in the fridge, but I'm really just worried about getting my liquid meds on the plane. Help!! :rolleyes2:
