I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jmegirl replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your stomach isn't doing flips on surgery day. The doctor won't be able to place the band if your stomach is doing flips!!! Good luck!!! -

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

After surgery, for about a week, you're going to have a lot of gas build-up in your body. Partly from the gases used to inflate your abdomen during surgery, and partly from the surgery itself - the gases will be trapped in your stomach and they have to get out somehow! A lot of people say Gas-X strips helped relieve the gas pressure. And an equal number of people say the Gas-X strips did nothing to alleviate the pains. I am part of the latter group - the only thing that actually helped the gas pains was to let the gas out, and unfortunately for me, that was from the lower half of my body, haha. -
Healthy choices for the Mushies phase?

Did you puree the perogies, or eat them as is? They're fabulous - but also potato and pasta. I like the scrambled eggs idea, and cottage cheese with some low sugar jam could definitely work. Thanks! Keep 'em comin'! -

YES, since Sunday afternoon I've been struggling to get on the board. It gives me a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" more often than not. Very frustrating! Perhaps we should email the moderators? Mini, I posted that picture last night, and it was there! I swear! I even went back to my post an hour later to show my husband that I posted a picture of us, haha. I'll post it again tonight when I get home (since my pictures are all on my laptop). -

Just for you DenverGirl! My husband got this recipe off some bodybuilding website and the only thing he did was add a little honey to make it sweeter. He said he had to add a little milk because it was too thick. 8 oz fat free cream cheese 4 scoops protein powder 3 cups whole oats 1/2 cup splenda Dash of cinnamon (to taste) Combine splenda, cream cheese, protein, and cinnamon in a bowl and mix with an electric mixer on high til its smooth. Add the oats and mix with the mixer until you have a fairly homogeneous mixture. Note - if it is too thick add a 1/4 cup of milk or water. Spray an 8x8 pan with PAM. Spread the mixture in the pan. Sprinkle some additional splenda on top and place in the fridge for an hour. Cut into ten bars for a breakdown of: 154 cals, 17.8g carb, 15g protein, 1.8 g fat -

You didn't ask!!! Now you see why it's so important to me to get healthy!!! Going to the beach with him has always been so terrible. Shoot, going anywhere in public has been that way - I have always felt like he should be with someone thinner. Bless him, he has never once cared about my weight. But I wanna be a hottie for him next summer!!! I'll post the recipe here for everyone -but like I said, it's probably a lot higher calorie than you'd prefer. If I recall, they're pretty good though! This is us Memorial Day weekend in 2007, the weekend we got engaged. Notice I was much...ahem...thinner then. -

YES! My husband is a weight-lifter/bodybuilder and he used to make his own protein bars all the time, like 3yrs ago when we first started dating. When he gets home I'll ask him how he made them! I can't guarantee they'll be low calorie. As I recall, honey was one of the ingredients! -
Anyone Being Banded in November???
jmegirl replied to Lcubed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being first is a good thing! I was first, and they got me back there and my surgery was right on time! If you're later in the day, they inevitably start running behind, and then you're waiting in the waiting room forever for them to call your name...that's when the nerves really kick in, haha. Good luck!!!! -

I'm kinda bummed about my weight actually. I lost 8lbs in the first 5 days post-op. Since then - NADA. I've been bouncing around 249-250 for 7 days now and it's driving me nuts. I'm about 3 days from starting mushies, so I really hope I don't gain it back - but I'm afraid I'm going to. :smile2: -

I had the same problem Froggi. I went through 5 different signatures in the last two months. :smile2: I finally just took it off completely, lol. We're a lot alike I think. We like to be individuals, and don't like others cramping our style - even if it's something as innocent as copying our glitter word! In fact, if you look back at all my posts, probably a month ago I posted something about people stealing my glitter words. I can't remember what thread it was, lol. I'm going to look for it and show you, so you can see what people said about it after I posted it. Found it! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/considering-dr-kirshenbaum-26213-post1023704/#post1023704 -

I had no bathing restrictions post-op other than to avoid baths for 6 weeks. I could shower with no problems. The dressing he used for my incision sites was some kind of clear bandage that was extremely sticky, and he said they would stay put for a week until I had to take them off. But if I washed my tummy with soap, try not to wash too much in that area, because he didn't want the edges of the bandages curling up...then they might not stay on the full week. I had no problems with this though, my bandages stayed on 10 days before I finally had the guts to peel them off. And boy oh boy, how pleased I am to see how much they've healed! I swear, I've had cat scratches that look worse after 10 days than these incisions do! :smile2: -

I'm sure you can find a protein powder at your local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe to add to your milk! My protein powders are 3g carbs, 120cals, and 25g protein! I can't drink milk by itself at all - I can't even choke it down, haha. But by adding protein powder to the milk, I have no problems. Especially if I blend it up in a Bullet with a few ice cubes - makes it kinda like a milkshake! -
I don't have a clue as to what might be wrong, but I just wanted to wish you well. I hope you get everything worked out soon!!! Stay positive!

www.dpsnutrition.net We order from them because they have really great prices. They've also got all sorts of free stuff they give away when you order a certain dollar amount - like a free t-shirt with $100 purchase. Plus, the company is based about 3hrs away from us, so even their cheapest ground shipping gets here in 2 days. -
Anyone Being Banded in November???
jmegirl replied to Lcubed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You absolutely CANNOT take any kind of pill! The opening between your pouch and your stomach is small to begin with. Add to that the fact that you're really swollen, and guess what? Anything bigger than half the tip of your pinky finger will get STUCK. I tried applesauce at 2 days post-op and I felt it going down, and it hurt because the clumps were too big to slide through. This is why you're on liquids only! I mean no disrespect, but seriously - don't people do tons of research before having surgery on their stomachs????? Why on earth would you NOT? -

I have found lots of individual flavors in The Vitamin Shoppe. They have a lot of different brands. One of the best I've found is the brand Jay Robb. Unfortunately it's really expensive, so I didn't buy anything bigger than a few individual flavors. My husband (who is big into weight lifting and body building) swears by the Optimum Nutrition brand, and we've got the Vanilla Ice Cream, Rocky Road, and Strawberry flavors. They are 120cals and 25g protein per serving. -

I'm doing so good ladies. Saving money, yes I am! I've been clipping grocery coupons for a few weeks now. I just made my Thanksgiving Day menu, and I plan to shop for the best bargain all around! My husband is so happy that I'm trying to save money! You know, I'm cooking dinner for both families this Thanksgiving. I'll be exactly 3 weeks post-op, and Turkey Day is my first day of solids! I don't know why I signed up for this job, haha. Thankfully, my wonderful mother will be here to help me through it and make sure I don't leave the gizzards inside the turkey when I put it in the oven...among other things. :cool2:
