  1. Don't feel bad! I've only lost 9lbs and I was banded Nov 5th. And, every pound of that weight I lost in the first 6 days post-op. So trust me, you aren't alone. It's been very discouraging to me not losing any weight in 2 weeks, bouncing back and forth between the same 2lbs. Driving me nuts!!!! But I also know that the first 4-6 weeks are for healing, so we shouldn't even be thinking about losing weight right now. Don't worry, we'll be losers soon enough! :cool2:
  2. Oh yea! What about Def Leppard's "Pour some shook up ramen..." You guys are killing me!!!

looking for a cheaper lap band surgery

This is just my opinion, but if you have that much of a problem with your fill doctor (and based on the paragraphs you've typed about her, I'd say that you do) then I suggest you see the other fill doctor you mentioned - the one that charges $250 for MX patients. I believe you also said it's a closer trip for you. Do that, and get yourself some restriction. Don't just accept the bad fill experiences and talk yourself into hating your lap band. See a different fill doctor, get a different fill experience, and just maybe it will work for you!
  4. YAY congrats! Keep us posted on your progress!!!
  5. Hahha if you're anything like me, you'll be online 6hrs after surgery! My surgery was at 10a and I was back to the hotel and on the laptop by 4p.
  6. Awesome!! Mine is at 10:30a. I bet I'll see you in the waiting area! You'll have to let me know what you'll be wearing so I can say HI! Are you flying? I'm flying into the Denver Airport at 8:30a and flying out at 2:00p.
  7. Yes, good thinking! Cottage cheese has much more Protein than yogurt does, so it helps you stay full for longer. It seems a bit thicker too, so that helps keep you full also. Good luck on your journey!
  8. Each of those items listed is considered one serving, and it's saying you can have 3 servings or less per day... So essentially, you can have 1c of skim milk and 2 8oz yogurts today. Tomorrow you could have 2c of skim milk and 1/2c of cottage cheese. Does that make sense?
  9. OK ladies, I'm sitting here literally ROLLING on the floor laughing. I can't stop giggling. My eyes are watering, my nose is running - I'm seriously LMFAO. Must share. I was reading one of the November bandsters threads, and someone posted about their experience getting the band this past week. Here's part of their response: I ended up spending the nite and glad I did. Dr Singh found a high anal hernia during surgery. He was able to repair it. I'm wondering - how did your doctor get to your anus through your stomach?? Are you sure your band is in the right spot???:w00t::w00t::w00t::laugh::laugh::laugh:

    straw???

You were misinformed. Do a Google search of "using a straw with lap band" and see what you turn up. Also call your surgeon and ask him/her.

    straw???

It's not a silly question! Unfortunately, drinking with a straw with the band is a no-no. When you drink through a straw you tend to take in a lot of air along with the liquid. Air in the stomach causes burping, and burping isn't a good thing, especially when you're first banded. The stitches around the band have to heal, and burping can cause the stitches to move more than they should.
  12. I was just banded on Nov 5th by Dr. K. I flew all the way to CO from NC just to have him do my surgery. I picked Dr. K for his low cost, but also for his aftercare. He offers free fills for 3mos, and $15 fills from then on. Not to mention how wonderful of a person he truly is. Very nice man, and he even impressed my mom! I've got nothing but wonderful things to say about him.
  13. Maybe so! But the problem is, I've already booked flights and scheduled my fill for December 5th, hahaha. I guess when it gets closer, if I don't need the fill, then I'll pay the $100 to change my flights to a different day.
  14. Yay! Welcome to the Loser's Bench Allyson!!! :smile2:
  15. Does Dr. K always place empty bands, or is it possible he placed my band already partially filled? I have this restriction thing going on that I totally didn't expect. I'm not complaining though, just curious. I suppose I could call them on Monday and ask if no one has any firsthand knowledge.
  16. Hey Ginny, this is just my opinion - you probably won't need someone waiting on you hand and foot in those first few days. I had my mom in the hotel with me for 48hrs after surgery before we got back on the plane to fly home (I had surgery out of town). In all honesty, I wish she hadn't been there. Sounds bad, but I really didn't need her, and she was fussing over me so much (Can I get you this? Can I get you that?) that I just wanted to scream! But, she did buy me this really cute stuffed bear that she named Bandit...so I guess it wasn't a completely bad experience, haha.

DFW is Dallas Fort Worth which is in Texas. Given that you're in Alaska, I'd say Colorado is a better choice. And yes, there are several doctors in the Denver area that are now doing lap bands under $10k. But I'm proud to say that Dr. K was the first, lol. Can't blame the other doctors for lowering their prices!

    Warm Drink Ideas?

I absolutely love the Starbucks Chai Tea, but after seeing the calories and sugar content online tonight, I think I'll have to quit that! :w00t: There is a brand of sugar-free Chai mix that you can make yourself, it's actually really good. Mix it with half nonfat milk and half Water. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E52WSS?ie=UTF8&redirect=true]Amazon.com: General Foods International coffee, sugar free Chai Latte Drink Mix, 4.4-Ounce Tin (Pack of 6): Grocery[/ame] I linked you to the product on Amazon, but you can find it in any grocery store on the coffee aisle.
  19. Have no fear! Gas pains were completely gone for me by Day 7, but I'd say by Day 5 they were definitely far enough in the background that I didn't notice them every waking moment. You're almost there, hang in there!
  20. Oh, I have so many wonderful things to look forward to! :tt1:
  21. Congrats on your surgery Old Goat! I trust everything went smoothly!

looking for a cheaper lap band surgery

Check out Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, CO. He has had several patients from Alaska. His cost is $9950 total. Additional costs are airfare and hotel, of course. His website is in my signature, and if you check out the Doctors forum here on Lap Band Talk, you'll see a thread where all of his band patients (including me!) congregate and chat. Dr. K is a wonderful man!
  23. Don't worry, haha. Cream soups were part of my Full Liquids phase, which was Days 3-14 post-op. I was instructed to blend the heck out of them so that they weren't lumpy - which it sounds like you did. So relax, you're fine! I was doing cream of broccoli and cream of chicken, cream of mushroom - all those cream soups, i'd mix a few spoonfuls of each and blend it with milk to make it real creamy. it's actually quite good!
