When does bandster HELL set in
jmegirl replied to motivated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 11/5. I wasn't hungry in the slightest for 2 weeks. Then, for the next week I'd get hungry, but it didn't take much food to fill me up and keep me full. Then for the last week, I was hungry all the time. I would eat something that would fill me up, but I never stayed full for more than 3hrs until I was hungry again. That was my Bandster Hell! Luckily I had a fill yesterday, which was exactly one month post-op, and it couldn't have been timed any better!!! Today, I'm back to not feeling hungry - so I have to say at this point my fill is working! -
I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

I had 2 glasses of Riesling and all it did was give me a headache and make me sleepy. Though I was never really a wine drinker anyways. I've been a beer drinker as long as I've been a drinker, and it's been really tough not having beer! Aside from the Riesling one night, I haven't tried anything else. Let us know what you drank and how it affected you! -

My fill felt....weird. I don't really know if there's another way to describe it! I mean, I won't lie, it hurt like the dickens when he put the needle in (mainly because I'm a wuss) and when he injected the saline I could feel the band tighten around my stomach - which was the oddest sensation! I've now got 3.4cc in my 10cc band. I've had smoothies, yogurt, sf pudding, and black bean bisque since my fill, and so far I've not really felt any restriction. But then again, I'm not really feeling hungry either, so it's obvious to me already that my fill is working. I'll start some more solid foods tomorrow, and here's hoping the fill stays put! I made another fill appointment for Jan 9th. -

Julie, I can't forget you! My fill buddy! It was really great to meet you too! I am glad you got there early. And I'm happy to hear that your fill went well! Did you make another appointment, and if so, when is it? Next time I think I'll fly out Thursday night and get a hotel, have my fill Friday morning, and fly out Friday afternoon. This one day roundtrip thing is too tough! If possible, can I request that the January RR Night be on Thursday January 8th??? -

Today was just a little tough for me. Tonight is my company's Christmas party, and it's always lots of fun. Live band, booze, huge amounts of food, plus the socializing is always great. Well, I went out this morning to buy a dress. I didn't want to buy a dress early, because I wasn't sure how much weight I'd lose. Well, I've not lost enough to make a difference, so I guess I messed up there. After 3hrs of trying on dress after dress after dress, in store after store after store - I just gave up. I'm not going to the party tonight and I'm really depressed that I couldn't find a dress that looks good on me. It's like there just aren't nice dresses that look good on fat girls, and it's so depressing I want to cry. My husband just went to the grocery store, and I told him to bring back ice cream and Tostitos chips and salsa. For my sake, I hope he goes against my wishes and doesn't bring them back. -

Yeah, I'm OK! I made it home just fine. I'm just exhausted, it was quite a long day yesterday. How much did you ladies get for your first fill? I've had smoothies, yogurt, sf pudding, and black bean bisque since my fill, and so far I've not really felt any restriction. But then again, I'm not really feeling hungry either, so it's obvious to me already that my fill is working. I'll start some more solid foods tomorrow, and here's hoping the fill stays put! PJTP = Post Just To Post? Well then, here goes.... My butt really does look fat in these pants. And my gut makes them look a lot shorter on me than they should, causing me to have fat-butt-syndrome AND high-waters-syndrome. What a bad day for Jaime. :whatchutalkingabout

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jmegirl replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 11/5 and lost 8lbs in the first week. Since then, I've bounced back and forth between the same 2lbs. Total weight loss for me is no more than 11lbs during this first month. But I have to say that is probably the norm. I'm just glad I didn't start to gain weight back once I went from Liquids to Mushies to Solids! :whatchutalkingabout I see my surgeon tomorrow for my first fill, and I'm hoping that will jump start the weight loss. I've been close to eating my arm off this last week because I have NO restriction, so I am eager to get this fill!! -

This week....drum roll please.... +1.8. No doubt the pizza, McDonald's, and Taco Bell I've consumed over the last 5 days has something to do with it! :cursing: But I'm getting my fill in 24hrs.... So, all you Professional Fillsters out there (haha) - what can I expect in the 24-48hrs post fill? Will I need to be on liquids/mushies? Also, eating breakfast in the 3hrs before my fill - good idea or bad? Is it better to have a full pouch or an empty pouch when I go in for my fill? My breakfast would more than likely be oatmeal, since I'll be in an airport. Starbucks now has outrageously priced oatmeal! -
I love Dexter!!! We watch it every Sunday night! Once I've finished the first Sookie Stackhouse novel, I'm definitely going to get the first Dexter novel.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jmegirl replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, do I really have to say? :cursing: B - Venti Chai from Starbucks (but it had 2% milk in it.....) L - Crab Cake sandwich (only ate the crab cake) and bowl of Vegetable Beef soup from Bear Rock Cafe S - Lower Sugar Maple and Brown Sugar oatmeal, which I ate 2hrs after lunch cuz I was so hungry :scared2: I've been drinking Crystal Light all day. Not hungry right now, but I will probably be chewing off my arm before 5p when it's time to go home, so I'll more than likely have my Chobani greek yogurt that's in the fridge, to tide me over until I can get home and have dinner around 6:30p once hubby gets home. Dinner will probably be leftover Shephard's Pie, which is a layered casserole consisting of ground beef, green peas, cream corn, and mashed potatoes. I also put a nice big layer of cheddar cheese on top of the taters. It's so bad for me, but sooooo good, especially on a cold night - nice and hearty. -

Haha, I'm happy as punch to be "normal" with the rest of you! We have our own special definition of "normal", right ladies??? :tt2: That popping thing gives me the heebie jeebies too!!! Once I decided I'd give it a try, and try "popping" the other side of the main incision, I swear my skin started to crawl and it was a good 10 minutes before I got up the nerve to actually do it. AGH I'm getting goosebumps now just typing about it!!! I'm such a wuss. So, does Dr. K numb the area around your port before he gives you a fill??? And will he talk to me and joke with me to distract me and take my mind off the fact that he's putting a needle in me and injecting fluid?!?!?!? :scared2::tt2::smile2::laugh: -

Yay, way to go! My first fill is on Friday! I've not lost 18lbs, but hopefully the doctor's scale will at least reflect the 10lbs that my scale at home shows! -

Does anyone wanna do lunch on Friday? I've got an appointment for a fill at 10:30a and I'm not catching my flight until 2p. I suppose I could go shopping, but that's really not cost effective now is it? :scared2: I've got a rental car, so if you give me directions I can probably find it - if anyone wants a quick lunch at Panera or some place like that (somewhere that has SOUP) let me know! :cursing: -

Well, I had posted the same question in a thread in the Post-Op forum, and someone finally replied. She said she had pushed on all of her incision sites, and they all made that popping noise, and then all the incisions were flat - whereas before they were all raised up slightly. She said something about scar tissue popping underneath the skin....which really makes my skin crawl, but whatever. Anyways, when I looked at the spot I'd pushed on, the inch-long incision was now flat on one side, which was the side I'd pressed on and heard popping from. It was still slightly raised up on the other side. So I pushed on the other side and *pop*pop*pop* and the next morning, the whole incision was flat. Talk about strange! And still, with all the popping, I felt no pain. So I pushed on two other smaller incisions, heard popping noises, and BAM they flattened out. So after all that, I wasn't quite so worried any more that I'd popped a stitch or hurt my port in any way. I did call Dr. K's office though, and Mary said I'd have to ask the doctor myself when I come for my fill on Friday - she had never heard of it and had no idea what to tell me. So, long story short, I'm inclined to believe the woman who said it was just scar tissue underneath there popping when you pushed on it. But I'll make sure that's the case when I go for my fill on Friday. -
POST-OP SEX....OwwwcCCH! MY PORT!!!!!
jmegirl replied to Princess4174's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! I read and discuss some of the coolest things through this site! Everyone (for the most part) is just so nice and friendly. So, I gotta ask something...embarrassing. My first time "back in the saddle" was about 2wks post-op. It was alone :cursing: because I wasn't sure what to expect and I didn't want hubby getting offended if things didn't go as well as he'd like. :scared2::blushing: Well, the O was much harder to come by (pun intended), and once I got there - it was so weak I wanted to cry. My stomach muscles were so tense and it was rather painful in my belly. Is this the case for everyone else? If so, how long til I'm healed so I can get back to having a good O? I was so disappointed by that experience that I've not tried it since, and I'm 4wks post-op today. -

Well if your goal is 83lbs lost, and you've lost 23lbs, that percentage is 27.7%!!!! Way to go!!! Basically, take what you've lost (23) and divide that by the total you hope to lose (83) and then multiply by 100. That gives you your percentage! (Sorry, I was a math major in college....:smile2: ) -

You guys are great! I knew you'd understand!! :smile2: -
I'm going to look for it! I'm the same way though. I have so many books to read. I'm really bad about buying books I find interesting, whether they're on sale or not, and then they just sit there in stacks on the bookshelf. My husband gets mad at me for "wasting my money on books I'll never read". I tell him I'm just stocking up for when we have kids and I become a stay-at-home Mom....then I'll have plenty of time to read! Right? Wrong....hahah. Gosh, I wish I could be a stay-at-home Mom without the Mom part. That would be swell! :smile2:

Let me preface this by saying...Bandster Hell, Bandster Hell, BANDSTER HELL!!! :wink2: I've learned over the last two weeks that I must must must eat some protein pudding an hour or so before leaving the office, so I don't go home starving. My hunger has come back full force and it's killing me. (By the way, protein pudding is just sugar free pudding mix, mixed with milk as directed, but also with a scoop of protein powder in it - makes it thicker and oh-so-fabulous!) Well, I didn't eat the pudding...so you know what that means. I was starving when I drove by the McDonald's. So I got in the drive-thru. I got a large fries (just shoot me now) and a double cheeseburger (no really, just shoot me) AND 2 apple pies! (why haven't you shot me yet??) I ate the fries with no problem. It's safe to say I've got no restriction, because everything I've tried to eat has gone down with no sticking and no signs of discomfort. However, I took two bites of the double cheeseburger back to back, and OMG the pain!!!! Apparently bread is a no-no, even with an unfilled band! Holy cow! It went down, and I was only uncomfortable for about 15 seconds, but Geez Louise!!! I finished the cheeseburger but I took smaller bites and chewed much more - and still, mild discomfort with every big bite of bread. I'm betting I won't be able to have bread at all once I get some restriction! So now, I'm in MOURNING. :cool2: In case you're wondering, both apple pies went down just fine...:smile2::tt2: -

Percentages! I can dig it. After all, I am a Biggest Loser freak! :smile2: I can't believe they're almost to the finale! -
Does anyone remember "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold? The book came out a few years ago, and if I recall it was an Oprah Book Club selection. Anyways, though a teensy bit depressing, I thought it was such a wonderful story. I heard just recently that they're making it into a movie, which I think is fabulous! If you've not read it, you should definitely check it out. I have to share the first two sentences, because they're so powerful. That's really what sucked me in! My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. Oooh, gives me chills just reading it again. Powerful story - definitely pick it up!
