Want to get weight loss surgery but am not getting approved
Lisa XO replied to shonna1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has a doctor ever ordered a glucose tolerance test for you? I have PCOS but with mostly normal ovaries. I was diagnosed by a progressive endocrinologist based on my GTT and other symptoms. My insulin resistance was the cause of much of my inability to lose weight. After I was put on metformin, I was able to lose weight (but, obv, not able to keep it off long term). I saw numerous doctors who told me, "just stop eating so much", until I finally landed on the endocrinologist who was willing to listen. Good luck. -
Recent Observations: Reverse Behavioral Conditioning
Lisa XO replied to smc124's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Indeed, I have. I'm only 2w2d post surgery and on my third day of purees. Already, I can tell that I dread the feeling of food in my stomach. I ate salmon puree one time and it didn't agree with me at all. That is all it took for me to be trepidatious. -
Lapband removed, Sleeve don, still struggling
Lisa XO replied to ChubbyChasersGirl64's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Isn't this the same medication as ozempic? If it is, I wonder if it is easier to get covered and/or less expensive. -
I started with a bmi similar to yours three weeks ago. I had my surgery on 12/27. I was scared and my brain was chaotic for the weeks leading up to the surgery day. I suggest just taking things a day at a time. Follow your surgeon's plan for you and try to keep your mind busy with other things. That being said, I was prepared by the day of surgery for any rate of weightloss going forward. All I can do is my best. I have given myself the tools to succeed and I am following directions to the letter.

My doc used it. It is just now starting to flake off now 8 days post surgery.

OMG, YES! Water is the first thing I noticed. I had a sip of coffee today... tastes like poison. That makes me sad.

I'm still on clear liquids so I am mostly either making my own broths (made Japanese Clear Onion soup yesterday) or using the boxed bone broths, adding unflavored protein to whatever I am eating at the time. I have only approximated my calories and not thought about fats at all. My doc told me to only think about 3 goals this first week: 1- fluids 2-protein 3-vitamins, in that order. I finally started hitting my fluid goal yesterday. I have discovered Hint water, which has helped me increase my intake. I used to love plain water but it isn't the same right now. I'm still down on proteins. I had maybe 45 g of protein today. Vitamins have been easy for me, so far. I am worried about my calorie intake, a little. My approximation is that I am only at about 300ish or less calories a day. Tomorrow is my last day of clear liquids and then I move to full liquid. My calorie intake should increase some at that point, I guess.

Thanks for this! I think I will give it a try.

I discovered that I am sensitive to whey protein. After I figured that out, I have been much less nauseated. I also have an aversion to sucralose. So, the nutritionist pointed me to Orgain products. Good luck. Try experimenting to see if trying other types of protein and sugar substitutes are easier for you.

Huge hugs, Kim. I'm sorry you had this complication but happy to see you able to post an update. Does this affect your post-op diet plan? Take care and speedy healing!

Hi, I am 4 days out now and every day is a little better than the previous one. If you doc gave you pain meds, take those. Don't try to white knuckle it. I think I only had water my first two days. Then I tried warm chicken broth and that went down a lot easier than the water. Hope you feel better asap.

Glad the surgery went well for you! Hope you are still doing fine. I'm at home and still doing okay. Getting liquids in is harder than I thought it would be. Mostly because my drinking sensation has changed a little but also my sense of taste has changed. I got a little breathing device for exercise. Apparently I like to hold my breath in recovery. I remember being yelled at, "deep breaths, Lisa" over and over. lol So, now I have my little device. Are you at the hotel yet? Hope you have continued to have a good recovery. How are the rest of you doing? Would love updates.

What you wished you would have packed for your hospital stay....
Lisa XO replied to PNWgrandma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked the doc if he does the binder and he said he doesn't usually but I could request it. I ended up not requesting and it was fine. However, if you are concerned about it, def ask for one. I can understand how they help. -
What you wished you would have packed for your hospital stay....
Lisa XO replied to PNWgrandma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was awake a lot more than I was asleep, so I wish I had brought a book or my laptop. My phone just wasn't enough to keep me occupied for my wakeful recovery. I know a lot of people sleep but you never know if you may be the one who doesn't. With weight restraints, I would have brought a paperback book or kindle. I also would have brought a small bottle of mouthwash. If I think of anything else, I will update. Just got home! Edit to add what I brough and used or didn't: cell phone bank charger (used it) cell phone cable (used it) cell phone stand to read without holding the phone, I had it on my tray. (used this, obv) robe (didn't use) button front pajama shirt and shorts (didn't use) toothbrush, toothpaste, chapstick, face wipes (used all of this) hairbrush (used) kept my hair in braids but it still managed to get very tangled small notebook and pen (used) Like others, I wore the same clothes to and from the hospital. I wore joggers, a tshirt, a zip front hoodie, socks and slip on sneakers. -
Thank you so much for this recommendation. I bought the orange and the lemon. Love them both but that lemon loaf is out of this world. Makes me think I'm getting a sweet treat! Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

Last day of my pre-op diet! lol Wanted to just say that I hope all of you all who are closely scheduled to me have an easy go with your surgeries. I am still hopeful that I am going to be able to pop in after my procedure tomorrow to update but I'm usually pretty out of it with regular anesthesia, and I've never been under general. So best of luck to you all! 😘

Three days for me. Four for you. Honestly, I am freaking out a little. I am glad to have the holidays to distract me somewhat. Pre-op diet has been insanely hard for me. I discovered I am very sensitive to sucralose. Then I figured out I was having problems with whey protein. Honestly, I feel better when I don't try to eat at all right now. I know this isn't great for me, so I have been forcing down broths with collagen while I wait for my unflavored pea protein to show up. Overall, I have done well on my pre-op diet, even with the hurdles. I think it has prepared me for what is sure to be a challenging post-op period. I did have a food dream last night. In my dream I ate something really yummy (can't remember what) and the surgeon cancelled my sleeve. It was bad, not a relief, so I am confident I am doing the right thing for me. Today and tomorrow are Christmas activities. And then on the 26th, I am packing my bag for the hospital. Ack. I will try to update you all as soon as I can. Best wishes to all of you!

Has everyone bought a scale for weighing yourself post surgery? I haven't owned a scale in years. Do any of you have a scale you like (is there such thing)? Thanks!

What did you all do to get your house ready for your recovery? I am making sure the basic things are done, like laundry, changing bed linens, etc. My surgery is on the 27th and I am finding myself overwhelmed with Christmas and surgery prep, so any suggestions are very welcome! What other things did you do that you think were helpful? What things do you wish you had done.

Stricture at the pouch and duodenum? Anyone?
Lisa XO replied to Laura M's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not exactly the same thing since I have yet to undergo surgery, but my upper GI "suggested" that my stomach mucosa is bulging a little into my duodenum. Based on that, I am thinking they might at least be able to get some idea from an upper GI study. -
Think your friend would train me after my recovery? lol Great job today. I need another update on soreness tomorrow!

I know it is quite a bit later for this answer but I just spoke with my dietician about this same thing. She suggested Orgain and Naked Whey for protein sources that do not have sucralose (I figured out I am sensitive to it). Orgain uses erythritol and stevia. Naked whey has actual cane sugar, so might want to double check if it fits your program.
