Struggling with diarrhea
Bettyboop56 replied to Dianne Bradshaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surprised by the exhaustion. It lasted until week 4. Stopped once I got to soft foods. Finally getting food- calories for energy. Be kind to yourself as you are healing. Don't plan much in the first few weeks. If grocery shopping grab a few prioritized things and go home. I did too much walking the store and when I went to checkout could barely stand. Twice I almost left my cart of groceries to go home. -
Post-op day 3 and struggling
Bettyboop56 replied to LibbyP0214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everyone has issued with the water. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital until I got my quota in. I find even room temperature is harder than slightly warm. Take sips not a drink so 1 oz in 15 minutes. I set my phone timer. I used my timer for 3-4 weeks. When I get distracted and don't get my water in, I get constipated. At 6 weeks, I have a power aide container that I need to get down before lunch, and another by 4, by dinner. Another before I go to bed. -
I asked my surgeon at preoperative and he said it was an option. I never did use it. But will for tummy tuck.

Puree stage everything went through my blender and liquids added to make as runny as applesauce. Meatloaf, curry chicken salad, Jimmy Dean egg fritatta with bacon. 1/4 cup. -
How did you choose your goal weight?
Bettyboop56 replied to kbsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember being 180# and too chunky for bikini. I seen the BMI chart and said for 5'8" 199# was overweight, 200# was obese. So 199# is my realistic goal. Started at 333# 2020, lost 30# on Noom in a year but gained a lot of good habits with food selection. At 8 weeks post surgery lost #40 and am at 270#. Lost #10 every 2 weeks from presurgery appointment. Stalled for two weeks but seeing impacts with trying on winter wardrobe! -
How much walking did you do?
Bettyboop56 replied to loli_lotus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was about the same. It wasn't til week 3 I walked a bit outside. Good weather and sun. It was week 4 when I went to grocery store. I walked around aisles to get what I needed. Spent my energy and could barely stand in checkout line. So do a short run for groceries and go back another day. With low calorie intake, body has little energy. It wasn't till I got a few days of soft foods that my energy raised. Patience. I niw walk around Walmart to get some steps in. I'm headed to gym in January. Surgery 10/19. -

How much walking did you do?
Bettyboop56 replied to loli_lotus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After a few weeks after surgery my body was so fatigued from limited calories. So once your body doesn't have a reserve, rest and take care of yourself with little walks a day. This lasted about 2 weeks, until I got to soft foods and had was eating 1/2 cup meals. I almost left my grocery cart. Twice. As I was so exhausted and just wanted to go home. -
I had chickpea spaghetti noodles. 1/8 cup with 1/3 cup 93% ground beef with low sugar marinara.no problems, chickpea has great protein and doesn't have the dough ball in stomach like pasta and bread. You could make some Mac and cheese with lentil pasta noodles. I do carbs 3x week but mostly 1/8 cup of veggies and 1/3 cup meat to get about 1/2 cup a meal.

1.5 week post op…. Scale isn’t moving … and a few other questions
Bettyboop56 replied to DT2687's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've learned to do once a week but sometimes I'm up 1-2#, then the next week down #5. You have to trust the surgery works and look at how your clothing feels, face shows it first. I'm in a stall and realized my thighs don't touch. -
10 day post opt gastric bypass
Bettyboop56 replied to Mrs.Solis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I religiously measured water and with 15 minute timer, sipped to get the water in. Then reset 15 min timer on my phone once water was down. Slow but sure. At 4 weeks went to a kids sippy cup after measuring 10 little sips, spitting it in measure cup to calibrate intake. Now at 8 weeks 18 sips is equal to 1/2 cup. Staying there until 6 months. Still trying to drink every 15 minutes. Take water in car to drink every 15 minutes. I don't like water so use sugar free skittles flavoring. The strawberry ones I mix with low fat Greek yogurt. -
I enjoyed cream of chicken soup, strained chicken noodle- Campbell and Lipton. I added a pinch of some meat rubs (Spiceology , Black & Bleu), taco seasoning. Neighbor made French onion, amazing but higher sodium.

How did you go after your surgery?
Bettyboop56 replied to carolmlqb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved the puree stage after 2 weeks before and after surgery of chicken broth... pureed foods added seasonings, spices. I did turkey chili, Jimmy Dean egg frattata with bacon, meatloaf with catsup added. Baby food turkey sweet potato with a pinch of taco seasoning, chicken curry salad. After 3 weeks puree it was great to get to soft foods. Just got to regular food and nervous. Going to get set up on Fitness app to track calories, water and protein. Eating 1/3 cup meat, 1/8 cup veggie or carb. 3x day, 2 snacks of same but with no carb, one of fruit. -

Bettyboop56 replied to Foxfire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't cook much so pureed canned turkey chili, Safeway curried chicken salad, Jimmy Dean egg bacon frittata, meatloaf. I ate some babyhood turkey sweet potato that I added a inch of Buffalo Blue rub into. I needed spices after all that broth. So any typical receipe with high in protein. -

Need help with husbands post op eating
Bettyboop56 replied to HappyCruiser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I would approach him that in your education on the set stages of eating that bacon would be week 7 or 8. That you are concerned about his health but would not be supportive when he gets dumping or complications. -
Full liquid soup favorites ...
Bettyboop56 replied to Gin14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gave my neighbor my beef broth as it has little protein versus chicken. He brought me French onion soup the next day. Strained out the onions. Fabulous. I used dry powder milk to make the Campbell cream of chicken soup. Strained Csmpbell and Lipton soup. Added some Buffalo or curry spices to them to add variety. -
I have added taco and Italian ground turkey, turkey bacon and patties with 93% ground beef. Chickpea noodles. So making smart food choices back into my diet. I'm post op 7 weeks and have lost 40#. In a stall now but plan on more exercise in January.

Many that have gained weight back said is was due to eating bread again. I am using chickpea spaghetti noodles. I also make sugar free pudding with dry powdered milk, high in protein, when I need a treat. I'm 7 week out and will try brown rice soon. Most new trialed foods have gone well but only 1/8 cup as part of 1/2 cup portion meals. I have tried some higher fats with no problem. But will abstain from high sugar and not experience dumping for as long as possible.

I had a cheeseburger but only the patty. Maybe 1/4 of it. I cut it up and put in my 1/2 c container. Take them everywhere. Liked Jenni groundturkey taco or Italian seasoned. Eggs with very small diced turkey sausage. Cottage cheese and yogurt for meal after a stomach issue. -
When can you "try" steak?
Bettyboop56 replied to Disco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started eating 7% ground beef taco meat at soft food stage, 1/3 cup and top my 1/2 c portion container with guacamole. Added a little salsa. I had beef stew twice with roast beef but love steak. Will trial it at 3 months.
