You are right, I shouldn't have gone to Subway expecting not to eat the bread and not be charged for it, etc. BUT on the same token, my family was wanting Subway, which is much healthier than most fast food establishments, and I was trying to accomodate them. The guy behind the counter seemed friendly enough so I thought I would ask. Well, it turns out that he was not friendly at all...LOL. Thanks!

Wow, I've never heard of an Obesity Law Firm. Good for you, I'm so happy you've been approved! Good luck in your journey.

At this particular Subway, the 6" sub was 4.99. The price of everything is going up! :bolt:

Thank you all for your replies. And while I do understand some of you who say that we shouldn't ask for "special treatment"...the sentiment behind my post was how mortified I was to be treated with such rude behavior just because I POLITELY asked if he could charge me less since I was not getting the bread. YOU DON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU ASK. That's the whole idea behind the little card. However, as I said, I will not allow others' ignorance to get me down. I chalk it up to a lesson learned. It's just horrible that an employee in a public eating establishment would make such rude comments about a paying customer. I wonder what's wrong with today's world...and with the economy you would think they would be trying harder to keep their customers. Maybe being "lap band friendly" would over-shadow their whole Jerry marketing scheme. I don't know. But, I do know, I will not ask for special orders again. :bolt:

Ok...run as fast as you can and never look back. Thankfully there are no children involved and you're still young enough to repair your life. Take it from someone who knows, they don't change. Congratulations on your very brave and mature decision!

Hello: I am interested in having a simple TT, mons lift, etc. after I reach goal. Hopefully BC will cover it. If not, does anyone have any idea what I would pay as a self-pay patient? Thank you!
-
Sounds like you are definitely consipated. I went through the same thing. It took a whole week after surgery for me to have a BM and that was only after I got some Colace AFTER calling the surgeon. I had this horrible pain in the upper left part of my stomach also. Once I was able to, ahem, GO better, the pain subsided a lot. And I agree with everyone else, drink more water. Hope this helps!

List the BENEFITS of low-carbing PLEASE
DesertRose replied to DesertRose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL. I guess I didn't make myself clear when I started this thread. I was hoping that you ALL would give your input and list the health benefits of doing low-carb. I started the list by saying it helps to prevent and cure impared glucose tolerance. So, please, please give your valuable input. Thank you in advance for helping out a fellow bandster. -
Congratulations on your milestone! I've lost enough to cause my slip to fall down around my ankles at work. Does that count? LOL Seriously, though, it's a GREAT feeling. Keep up the good work!

A complex carb is anything wholegrain...such as wholegrain bread, oats, brown rice, etc. Most bandsters find these kinds of foods intolerable since they get stuck.

This may sound strange but I JUST happened on the Low Carb Banders Unite forum on here. Mostly I hang around the general discussion part. I had no idea there were low carb banders. I am happy to see there are other banders who agree that high protein/low carb WILL work. My fill doctor said, it's not about carbs, fat, etc. it's about calories. I agree to a certain point. However, in the past I've always done really well doing low carb, like a mix of the Atkins and South Beach diets BUT would get discouraged when stalling after the Water weight came off. I know deep inside, that high Protein, low carb is the way to go FOR ME. It keeps my blood sugar steady, which helps with cravings, etc. Somehow I always knew I could stick it out if I had help, which I now have with the band! I am soooo happy! so happy, so happy.... really, you don't even know. We know our own bodies and how can thousands of other low carbers be wrong? I am tickled PINK...

For me, doing low carb isn't just about never touching anything with carbs again. It's about eating the right TYPE and more importantly the right AMOUNT of carbs. For instance, now that I have the band I will fill a 7" plate with half Protein, then 1/4 (dark in color, low carb) vegetables and the other 1/4 with some kind complex carb. Eat your protein first, then the low-carb vegetables, if you have room, eat the complex carb last. That's my version of doing low carb and it simplifies it for me. :rolleyes2:

Hello all: I found this site, you might already know about it, but it's packed full of information. Protein Power

Has Anyone Made a Love Connection?
DesertRose replied to livtobeblessed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not looking for love, but in your defense, livtobeblessed, this post is under GENERAL LAPBAND DISCUSSION. I don't see any harm in your post. But then again, I'm a novice myself. -
I've been doing some research on the benefits of cold laser therapy (not to be confused with laser surgery) in snuffing out sugar addictions. My husband had it to quit smoking. Anywhoooo... the receptionist at the clinic told me she had 3 treatments for her sugar addiction and hasn't touched anything sweet since her first treatment a month ago. She even passed up her all time favorite, Baskin Robbins ice cream. My concern is: could it be harmful to my band? None of the information I have found would indicate so. It won't do much good to ask my fill doctor, surgeon, etc. because they would tell me I should let the lapband do it's job, etc. However, no amount of restriction is going to stop the sugar cravings, of which there are many for me. Has anyone heard of this and have you heard whether it could be harmful to an internal foreign object in the body, such as the band? You can read about it on Wikipedia: Low level laser therapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Low-level therapy uses cold (subthermal) laser light energy to direct bio-stimulative light energy to the body's cells without injuring or damaging them in the process.

4th Fill tomorrow -- I have NO RESTRICTION
DesertRose replied to sissy821's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sissy: I am in the same boat, inasmuch as I do not know what size band, the amt of cc's per fill, etc. (It is my own fault because I do not ask, but the fill visits are always rushed. They're extremely busy and they act like they are coralling cattle or something). I've had 3 fills and feel a LITTLE more restriction with each one, yet, I am still hungry, a LOT. The one thing I have learned, especially by reading this forum, is that we are all different. We lose at different paces, some of us need more fills than others, some of us have a harder time letting go of our comfort foods, and so on. Without the intention of lecturing, I will encourage you to talk to your doctor, be honest and ask questions...and trust me, next time I go for a fill, rushed or not, I will be taking my own advice. :rolleyes2: -
I'm losing slowly. Pre-op I was 247 - I am down to 232. (I do not know how to put a ticker on here). Could you provide me with some feedback? What have you done to lose the weight, etc? Maybe we could compare notes. Thank you SO much, I appreciate all the advice, encouragement, etc.

Anyone else banded around June 24, 2008?
DesertRose replied to DesertRose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you, Sara. I've had 3 fills and I'm feeling more restriction. I think, for me, it's going to be a mental battle inasmuch as I have been an emotional eater for the better part of the last 15 years. It's been difficult exercising as of yet because of the asthma, but my surgeon said once I get atleast 20-30 lbs. off, it should subside a lot. As I said before, any advice is appreciated! -

Anyone notice a difference on how you are treated once you start losing weight?
DesertRose replied to Ddem's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
JNBWILDS SAID: So I guess I'd conclude that yes - others are mean to fat people. But a healthy sense of humor, self esteem, a confident smile and an outgoing personality go a really long way toward reducing discriminatory behavior. JNBWILDS, That is soooo true. In my previous reply I did not mention that over the last 12 or so years of being overweight, that during my poorlittlemeIamsofatandnobodylikesme times, I rarely got any calls from my friends, rarely got any invitations, etc. But when I was feeling more confident (like when I would lose 20 lbs or so from a fad diet)...people were more drawn to me. It definitely has to do with confidence, which makes us more friendly and outgoing, which makes us more likeable. -

OMG...I am sorry that you have to endure that from, of all people, your sister! She should want you to be happy and healthy. Pray for her. -
Anyone notice a difference on how you are treated once you start losing weight?
DesertRose replied to Ddem's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Very good and thought provoking thread. I was "skinny" up until my 4th child (14 yrs. ago) and quitting smoking and starting to work in at a desk job. Anyway, and I know this sounds utterly conceited, but, I was HOT. My measurements pretty much stayed around 38-24-36. I was constantly "hit on" by guys. Married guys, older guys, younger guys, you name it! It drove me crazy because, for one, my husband was VERY jealous at the time. Since I've gained weight, I RARELY get a second glance and my husband is not in the least jealous. Now that I am losing, albeit slowly, I'm getting the second glances again and I worry a little about my husband's insecurities. Back in January of this year, I was passed over for a promotion. They gave it to a skinny pretty blonde who had only been on the job for a month. It did hurt, I will not lie. But, it also acted as a catalyst to my determination to lose the weight and start getting back into life. I have no desire to be flirted with or hit on, etc. I only wish to be healthy, be a good example to my daughters, have a more intimate relationship with my husband, feel more energetic and be able to ride comfortably in a plane seat. But, I will tell you this, I've worked too hard for too long to be passed over any more. Once I get close to goal, I will find a better job then walk into my manager's office and remind him of the time he passed me over...hehe. -
What to look for in a good scale (both kitchen and bath)
DesertRose replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As for body weight scales: I have a lithium digital scale and I'm ready to throw it out. It ALWAYS weighs me 5 lbs. less than the doctor scale. I get so mad seeing 232 at home, only to go to the doctor and have their scale (which is supposed to be accurate) say 237!! Very discouraging. Anyway, I think I am going to go out and get one of those $7.00 scales at Target. That seems to be good advice. Um, feeling guilty here, but I haven't gotten a kitchen scale yet. -
Aw, Honey! You have SO much to live for and a whole life ahead of you. Right now, at this very place in time, it looks bleek, but I can promise you this...as silly as it sounds...the sun will come up tomorrow!! These feelings of grieving for what once was, and possibly even missing those times - when you could 'vegg out' in your room and eat whatever you wanted to stuff the emotions back inside - are perfectly normal (whatever normal is). We've all been there and done that. Take it from someone who knows, it will pass. Just give it a little time. You've been given a wonderful gift, the chance to make one of the most, if not the most, important changes you will ever make in your life. The chance to start over with a healthy new you. So many people wish they could have had the lap band at your age. Think of it as something to be celebrated. :smile2: Once the weight starts coming off, you will gain more and more confidence and you will find that there is a huge world and lots of adventures out there just waiting to be had. Ok...I'm off my sappy soap box now. Hang in there!!!! You will be in my prayers.

OMG...I can NOT believe what I have just allowed myself to do! This morning I was in a rush so I didn't have time to pack a good lunch. I looked in the pantry and grabbed a can of Campbells vegetable soup 100 calories per serving. I thought, well it's healthier than eating out of the snack machine or grabbing a burger, etc. Lunch time came around and I ate one serving. I guess it was not solid enough because it slipped right through. 1 hour later I am famished and there is NOTHING healthy to reach for. Right about that time we had a very stressful meeting. By the time we got out, I was shakey and weak and feeling some shoulder pain. I knew my blood sugar was low and I needed a pick-me-up. Before I knew it, I had a Hershey's candy bar in my hand, tearing it open and almost scarfing it down. It's like something took over, I totally forgot about the band and lost all reasoning. Hunger won out and my chocolate demon took over. I feel horrible and stupid! How could I have let this happen? I'm totally serious...I did this without a second thought...it was like a dream. I've learned my lesson. From now on, there will be healthy snacks available AND I will make sure I eat something more 'solid'.
