    Confused with diet plan

I saw this after a search for "confused about meal planning". I started off strong and enjoyed the self-care and empowerment of meal planning, but... my husband does most of the grocery shopping and cooking for the family (don't ask he just prefers it. i pick my battles. ) And I was doing making grocery lists informed by my meal planning and trying to make the meals work for the family and my FINICKY six-year-old. It was really ambitious and confusing. So then I just ate whatever my husband cooked. Then the plateau struck after losing 30lbs in a 1.5 months. I just hit 3 months and have been nibbling red meats including pork for half that time- and i don't really like the taste of meat since the surgery. (It's hard to evolve when your support system isn't) Back to empowerment--I've recently started eating "Real Good" frozen meals. They break down to about 3 portions a meal for me. Nutrition = as high as Protein 40g with Carbs 4g (6 net). They're really heavy though and I've actually just had a hard time eating since surgery. I'm also, turning to popsicles and protein bars.

    Hair loss and extensions?

It's funny. I was just contemplating extensions as well. My naturally curly hair got super dry around 10 weeks and my hair was bypassing tangles and becoming knots. Out of frustration and a little bit of post-VSG depression I gave myself a big chop. I'm going to get consult with my hairdresser to assess the strength of my hair.

    November 2022 surgery support!

I can't even conceive of eating any meat. My dietician and the reading said that my tastes might change... Pureed beans and legumes have made up the bulk of my diet and I've been craving kale salads (very Californian) and swiss chard and cooked greens. Basically, the very description of how my African-American Texas grandmother cooked and ate all of her long life. Fried chicken was a treat for the older generations and she thought fast food and "sugar water" was disgusting. My Russian mother turned into a veggie-lovin' hippie but the secret ingredient to all of our Cultural dishes seemed to be SOUR CREAM! Obviously, I've been thinking about how intrinsic food is to identity. I suspect it is to many of us; especially during the holidays. Having VSG has almost made the holiday foods more special as an observer than a mindless gobbler (almost!). Does anyone else have holiday foods or special cultural dishes with stories?

    November 2022 surgery support!

Give yourself grace and celebrate what you’ve overcome and done to get to this very minute. I started forgetting to eat because of writing deadlines then I tried shoveling the food in my face mindlessly as I worked and my body quickly reminded me that it wasn’t a healthy habit before surgery and it isn’t now. Taking the time to plan out my “eating and drinking schedule” is tough for my go go go-brain. But, every time I do it it’s a contract with myself to slow down and practice self care. Isn’t that what this whole process really is?

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Ditto everything, right down to the ham (deli slice for me). Eating is going better than drinking now that I’m more mindful and intentional. I actually push bites to the outside of my plate like numbers on a clock and on between and try to make sure I pace my bites throughout a half hour. Do I sound crazy?! It’s visual so it’s been helping for me. 🤣

    November 2022 surgery support!

Wow! Well done. I’m having such a hard time drinking what I need to while just sipping. Plus, eating is a nuisance. I’ve stalled on weight loss in my second week bc I’m not eating/drinking enough…I suspect. What’s your schedule/ technique?

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hi friends, I’m new. My sleeve surgery was on 11/22. If changing your lifestyle before Thanksgiving isn’t a commitment, idk what is!
