4 years post Gastric Bypass. Zero complications, maintained weight loss and found exercise I love. This journey inspired me to get into healthcare. -
What do you wish you had done BEFORE your gastric bypass surgery to get ready?
Mygirl0226 replied to DianeF's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I took a nutrition online class at my community college 2 years after gastric bypass and I wished I had learned more sooner. Food blogs, peer support is great, but college courses hit differently. Knowledge from that class sparked a health and mental health change in me. It’s not about protein or what supplements are trendy, it’s about what your specific body is lacking and needing. I get routine labs done 2-3 times yearly, which is more than recommended. I quit seeing my bariatric surgeon and my medical doctor prescribes only what vitamins show up that are low or needing more. That changed the bariatric fatigue I’d get and I’ve never felt stronger/healthier. Getting another doctor on my care, continuing health education and following my blood work are all things I wished I done sooner. -
Gain Weight after 5 years
Mygirl0226 replied to wilocarpio's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I’m year 3 years post op Bypass and I gained 15 pounds It’s been difficult to accept, but it’s common. I can eat more, my appetite has come back and I had to do a liquid reset (protein) to turn the head hunger off. It works for me to do a liquid reset, weight loss pills (phentremine) did not work. I’m also strength training high impact Krav Maga 4 hours weekly. Not giving up, just accepting this part of the journey and resetting to continue reaching my goals. I’d like 10 lbs back off :) -

Muscular Weakness after Bypass?
Mygirl0226 replied to brownp16's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi thanks for sharing your story Phil. I’m 39, had bypass in 2020 and in 2023 I have leg mobility issues, numbness, tingling in my lower body, nerve pain and none of this can be explained. I’m also baffled at what is going on. I took all my vitamins, checked my levels and then suddenly my ast/alt shot through the roof, my vitamin B6 was toxic level (over 2000), my legs stopped working and I went by ambulance to hospital. Besides my blood work, all imaging is fine. Did you ever get diagnosed with anything? It’s been 6 months of hell for me. I lost and maintained 70-80 lbs from surgery and I thought I was doing great until this happened. I never read anything like this and now they’re suspecting the same nutritional deficiency as the issue even though I didn’t feel sick before and my levels were good until this “attack”. I hope to get my strength back soon, I’m working so hard to get my legs back and I have no answers of why this happened. -
Question! I have Anthem blue cross blue shield. Did anyone get pre approved for weight loss injections for pre diabetes? I’m not quite diabetic but wanted to see if anyone got approved pre diabetic. Have about 20 lbs to lose 3 years after gastric bypass. Slow regain.

High B12 and AST and Alt levels at 2nd year post op visit?
Mygirl0226 replied to Michele 2021's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
YES! I’m having liver flares of high alt/ast and vitamin b 12 over 2000. Mine come in flares and I get excruciating pain and end up in the hospital. My last high liver flares were so high I lost use of my legs temporarily. It was SO scary, the doctors told me I was crazy basically and after 6 months I finally got a doctor to believe me that something is wrong and he thinks it’s from the bypass :( I have neurological issues suddenly and I’ve always taken vitamins as directed. My highest weight was 227, lowest 137, currently at 150. I didn’t lost a crazy amount of weight but I’ve never been sicker and I never thought it could of been from bypass. I regret the surgery big time. -

I’m 2 1/2 years out from Bypass. Highest 227, lowest 138 and I settled at 142-144. I just had a recent weight gain for the first time and saw 153. Went back to surgeon, scheduled a nutrition appointment and trying phentremine for the first time. Back at 151 and this is part of expected maintenance. I can eat/drink just about everything except for bread, only in small amounts. Working on bringing some numbers back down and I know I have all the tools to do it. -

I think you have to be 100% ready for change. If you needed to pause and think about it, that’s great. Surgery is scary and change is scary. I had major doubts the morning of surgery but I told myself that was just anxiety and went through with it. Bypass was the BEST thing I’ve ever done for myself. You have the rest of your life to look forward to.
