How did you lose so much weight? How do you answer this question
Fred in Pa replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Technically, they should not even be asking in a professional environment. But, tell them an old gypsy touched your cheek and whispered “thinner”. Then walk away. That’s sure to get a laugh. -
Possible to add SADI-S to drop down list of surgeries?

Advanced Recovery shakes
Fred in Pa replied to Kris Poole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are plenty of other protein shakes out there that may be better tasting. Id match the nutritional info and then ask your team if substitutions are ok. Did they insist on these drinks and no others? I prefer the Premier Protein shakes for best flavor. -
I have dental issues. Most it came from the Navy and getting massive fillings in many teeth. So, I’m concerned about surgery making things worse. I have read, like others above, the issue may be the acid. So I’m going to try adding mouthwash and such with a more alkaline content. Here is a great site that talks about mouth acids and then goes on to rate mouthwashes. https://www.centralpointfamilydentistry.com/post/what-mouthwashes-are-like-rinsing-with-soda

Pre-op Diet causing extremely chapped lips
Fred in Pa replied to Kimpossible00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it’s the minerals…just a guess. I always swish some water in my mouth after the premiers to get that chalky aftertaste out. Like someone else said, the caramel seem the best for not having that effect. -
When to tell your new partner you had surgery and imposter syndrome?
Fred in Pa replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
As a guy, I’d like to know…especially in a growing relationship. Look at it this way, if you tell him, and he is not receptive, do you want that in your relationship? If you tell him, and he’s receptive, it’s another step towards intimacy in your growing relationship and proof he’s a keeper. The longer you wait, the more you risk TRUST. Lying is no way to start any relationship. -

Want to get weight loss surgery but am not getting approved
Fred in Pa replied to shonna1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Spot on! Great advice! The only thing I would add is finding the right Endo. There are a LOT of things that can effect metabolism. Finding the right doctor to go down those paths could make the difference. -

I’m in the same boat as you…and understand the anxiety of just wanting it to come. I need 12 visits in my program per my insurance which puts me in Feb-Mar 2023. I try to use the time to really study my eating habits, get educated on what to expect, make lists of what I’ll need, try different shakes and such…that helps. YouTube us great for education videos. I’m really trying to “think” about why I eat, what I eat, etc. I made myself a binder with all my info, visit reports, etc to review and keep track. I use myfitnesspal.com to track food and exercise. Think about other distractions…things you always wanted to get done, new hobbies, a new reading list, etc. Make this time about “you”. Taking care of you, prioritizing you, really studying you, so when surgery comes, you are in a good place and ready for your new life…YOUR new life.
