    December surgery

Today is the day I am making my first soft protein meal. I’ve tested the waters with a bite of lobster yesterday and a spoon of ricotta Saturday but have otherwise been on protein shakes and clear liquids since my surgery two weeks ago. Prior to surgery a well seasoned egg white omelette was a the most common breakfast meal for me, often with a side of Turkey sausage after my morning swims. I didn’t get to swim this morning, (at my check up last week my surgeon said I could resume this Thursday though 🤗) , but I prepared a ricotta egg white omelette season with a pinch of salt, turmeric, and coriander. So far it’s going down slow and I’m feeling full quickly. I think I’ll probably put half away for tomorrow’s breakfast. Readjusting portions will certainly be a learning curve.
  2. I feel like I am more conscientious than ever of attaching a moralistic value to weight and making sure I am treating it as a neutral. One thing I worried about alot in the week before my surgery is somehow contributing to the societal bias and negative treatment of overweight people by getting the surgery. I feel like I worry about that more than anything.

    How do you curb cravings?

just discovered the fine art of heating up store bought chocolate Protein Shakes and pretending it’s hot chocolate.

    December surgery

I just discovered the fine art of heating store bought chocolate protein shakes and pretending it’s hot chocolate and I’m here to say I’m a fan.
  5. So I’m sure grateful to have my mom here to help me recover from my sleeve gastrectomy I had Monday the 5th. I’ve stuck strictly to the post op diet set by my surgery team. Today my mom comments on my consumption of sugar free popsicles to help meet my fluid goals. I had four throughout the day was going for my 5th when she commented. And she told me essentially she didn’t think I was taking the surgery seriously because of the “additional calories and carbs” in the sugar free bomb pops. I have fought to hit my protein goals and fluid numbs everyday other than these popsicles I’ve had water, broth, and protein shakes. Rinse and repeat. I just feel both extremely judged and unseen. Her mind jumping right to calorie and carbs (she also used the word keto earlier to describe my post op diet which is inaccurate) makes e feel like she hasn’t even tried to understand what I’m doing here beyond surface level. I’m so frustrated. I’m 4 days out from surgery and already getting this l. I’m feeling crushed.
  6. Gas pains are unreal. I’m taking gasex as prescribed how long will these last? Every hiccup and burp is excurciating

    Am I overreacting

Had this not been expressly approved by my nutrition team I would not have posted.

    Am I overreacting

She’s read the label… diet culture is just so ingrained in her she still assigns moralistic value to different foods and is unable to unsee it in exchange for hydration value let alone the express instructions of my surgery/nutrition team. All of this said I think maybe I’m most upset about this because I thought my mom had somehow evolved past this. Thank you for the encouragement and for listening. This message board is a god send.
  10. Thank you so much. I will sleep with the heated blanket tonight
  11. Good to hear there’s a tangible light at the end of the gas pain tunnel
  12. Yes exactly my gas is in the body cavity
  13. Sorry sorry to hear this. I would be livid. We’ll let you know what to expect.
  14. Just got my surgery time 😱 7am Dec 5th! Here we go!!!
  15. I have my surgery scheduled for December 5. I see a lot of folks who are similarly scheduled are on liquid diets but my surgeon only has me on one two days before surgery- is this normal?
  16. So glad after all this time waiting you are your date is almost here too! Excited for all of us!!
  17. Good luck this week you will do great!
  18. I’ve lost 30lbs preparing for surgery (on Dec 5) and the most exciting NSW for me is that when I take a bath my butt no longer serves as a stop gap when draining the tub. Previously water would be able to pass by but now there are multiple inches between my sides and the tub walls on both sides.

    December surgery

I’m interested to know this as well - I have the same surgery date and was planning after my two week check in to go stay with my parents roughly 3 hours away until the new year. I know they cautioned us about seat belts while our incisions were still healing but that’s all I can recall.
  20. This weekend my nerves are in hyperdrive ahead of my Dec 5th sleeve surgery. While you might think it’s surgery itself or pain or resulting restriction that might be making me nervous the root of my nerves is more psychological. I’m nervous about losing a part of myself, how my relationships might change, and to some degree not having my weight as a protective shield that despite all its faults seems to do a good job of repelling assholes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited for the surgery and know it’s the right step for me, and will help be become more healthful and confident, but curious if anyone else is worrying about similar things.
