Yesterday the 28th I received my second band. I was banded in may of 2005, I lost 130lbs and every thing was going great. Then after about 2.5 years I started throwing up and couldn't eat. Went to Dr. and was to tight, then too loose, then too tight. Then I got to a point to where they couldn't pull any fluid from my band at all. Thought it had went flat. Well I knew more then the Dr's of course I did. I started eating cheetoes and eating refied beans with lots of cheese. Milk shake every now and then, after all it would go right thru and no it wouldn't show up. WRONG I gained back 100 pounds. Still throwing up and sick daily I I said I give. Talked to my Dr. and agreed to let him go in and look around. When I woke up I had a brand new band. He found that I had a hernia that was pushing on the band and making me tight. I was surprised when they told me he put in a new band because before I went to sleep he told me that if the band was flat he would just remove it. I feel good today except for being sore. I know that I will have to work harder this time but I believe that I can get the weight off again. So I have seen some that are wishing that they never had done it and to them I say I have been there. But you cant expect the band to do it all and you cant try to fool it. Then again as my Dr. said some people just cant tolerate the band. Any way I am happy to try again.

just hang in there. It is easy to start eating junk and telling yourself that it will average out. You will say I can eat this twinki and not eat supper, but you will and then one day you will wake up and say I am back at sq. one. Believe me I know. I thought I could live on two or three bags of cheetos a day. Nothing else would stay down so I thought I was ok. Got my fingers crossed for you Dave

Insurance changes after banding - lots of uncertainty
feedrate replied to Katy517's topic in Insurance & Financing
Well the same thing happened to me. I had UHC ppo when I had my band put in. I changed from being on my wifes paln to my jobs plan. Still UHC ppo but new plan had exclusion. I started having problems and UHC told me that If I was spiting up blood and they could tie it to the band that they would pay for nothing. They said nothing, that is nothing that they can say was caused by the band. I think I now have erosin and don't know what to do. The ins. co. said they would pay for the scope down the old mouth but if the test shows problems, oh well IM on my own. I don't think it is right but what can you do. My Dr. says he will give his time for free but that leaves the sleep dr. the hospital, the xray dr. the floor cleaner, the window cleaner, the admin. new car allowance and on and on and on. Sorry for this news but that is what I know about it as of today. good luck  -
Band flipping??
feedrate replied to MrsShannonDennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you port flips you will usually get tighter. Thus you would know due to smaller intake and should have prob. keeping things down. At least that is what happend to me. When my filpped the dr. could no longer inject the port site to drain or fill. Also the port does not usually filp until after a large amt. of weight loss. I was at around 115 lbs. down when it happened to me. Good luck. -
The first time I had my revision was because the dr's pa injected about two times the amout the band would hold "according to the Dr." and the insurance co. paid for it. This time who knows why, because I have a new insurance co. "same co. but different policy" and they have a bareatic close on it they won't touch me. I am so tired of trying to eat and then it coming back within two minutes. This has not been a nice ride for me although I did lose 100lbs before all the problems started, now im up about 30 pounds due to the fact that junk food has entered my life. potochips seem to go down and stay although ice cream will not "i guess that is a good thing".

:cursing:I was banded may of 05, approx 8 months later the port moved and they had to do a revision. As of this writing it has moved again. The real deal is that my Dr. said bring me the money and we will fix it, since im now on a different insurance plan and they won't touch it. I just got off the phone with them and I ask point blank, "if I get so weak from not eating and loosing what i do eat, she interrupted me and said if I go to the hospital and they treat me for anything caused by my band the insurance will not pay for it"???? Has anyone had in dealings like this. needless to say im not happy with dr. or insurance co. at this point. I just want to be able to hold something down.

I had to have my port redone due to the amount of weight I had lost. it just got loose. It only took about 30 min and then I had to stay in recovery for another 30 min. They put me to sleep and made the cut then started bringing me back. I could hear the dr. talking and then I started talking to them while it was going on. No big deal really. However when it flipped it did hurt and I got really sick to my stomach. But then again they had just over filled me also. any way good luck dave

Trying to decide--Adam Smith vs. Dr. Jay
feedrate replied to reebs2309's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dr. was adam smith. and after my surgery I became ill. I called him and he was in Houston at the time. He told me to go to the hospital and that he would call them. Then late that afternoon he come walking in. He had come back from Houston and still took the time to come and check on me. He said he likes taking care of his own. I am really pleased with Dr. Smith and his staff. As for me I had my band surgery on May 12,2005 and I have now lost a hundred and five pounds....
