I went to Dr. Valencia and was very happy! His price is around $8,000. Not the cheapest, but I think he is the best! Very experienced and he was a professor of bariatrics at UCLA.

I went to Dr. Valencia in Tijuana. I had a great experience and would recommend him to anyone. He operates in Hospital Angeles which was very nice. He is not the cheapest, but is the best in my opinion! He was a professor of bariatric surgery at UCLA. I picked him because he has the best credentials of any surgeon I found in Mexico. I hope this helps. Keep us posted!

Don't want to get involved in the fighting. I'll just say if you want to know more about my experience with my surgeon, you can pm me. -
Everyone seems to get these stalls at one time or another. I get really depressed too but if I hang in there my weight loss always startes up again. I just have to fight that feeling of, "I might as well eat some junk since I'm not losing anyway" mentality!

Anyone considering the SLEEVE? MX Dr.'s?
mistyone replied to marnie723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Huh? You asked and I answered. Not all lapband doctors do sleeves. Mine does so I answered you. Use another surgeon if you want. It doesn't make any difference to me! -
Anyone considering the SLEEVE? MX Dr.'s?
mistyone replied to marnie723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon does sleeves. There is also another surgeon on the website that does them in the U.S. alighterme .com -
It can be very confusing! I can tell you what I did. I looked for the best credentials, and looked at the hospitals, then called and talked to the surgeons. When you talk to the surgeon ask lots of questions and find out what kind of plan they have in case of emergencies. Make sure they are equipped to handle what ever comes up. As it turned out, I had a great experience and a great surgeon. Good luck to you!

You're right, looking is stressful! I was very happy with my surgeon. He is affiliated with UCLA which made me feel good about my decision. The hosptial was very modern, new and they took very good care of me. You can pm me if you want to ask me any questions. -

I'm so sorry to hear that you had such a hard time. What were the complications you had and why did they have to remove 1/2 of your stomach? -

who got their lap band from dr.valencia in tj
mistyone replied to smsmithart's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my surgery with Dr. Valencia. I had a great experience and the hospital was wonderful. I asked for certifications and more information and they sent me a copy of his certificates. I received certificates from UCLA, a copy of his license from the California Medical Board and a copy of his license from the Mexico Medical Board. If I can find them, I will email them to you. Or just ask his office to send them to you 877-765-8446. You are in great hands! -
You mean to tell me that this doctor is going to give you information about one of his patients?! I certainly wouldn't want my doctor to give out my information to someone he doesn't even know! I wouldn't want him to give out my info to someone I know either unless he had my permission!

From what I've heard and read, Belite isn't getting good reviews. I wouldn't use them.

Tell me your story I can't pick a MX surgeon!!
mistyone replied to noahsmom's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi noahsmom! Without a passport you'll need to cross the border by car. I chose Dr Valencia who does surgery in Tijuana and Ensenada. You can fly in to San Diego for either place and they will pick you up at the airport so you don’t need a passport. The number one reason I chose Dr. Valencia was for his credentials. I couldn't find any other surgeon in Mexico that came close to his credentials. My family doctor wasn't happy when I told him I was considering Mexico, but when I mentioned Dr. Valencia and UCLA, he gave his blessing. Dr. Valencia is very caring, provides great care before AND after surgery! He only does surgery in full hospitals not a clinic. He does the surgery with only 4 incisions. He teaches and proctors all over the world and is well respected not only in Mexico, but also at UCLA where he teaches. I would recommend him to anyone! You should call and ask to speak to him. I spoke to him before I scheduled and he answered all my questions. You couldn't be in better hands. That’s my 2 cents! -
San Diego after getting Banded
mistyone replied to Chubbyone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't recommend any hotels in San Diego because I stayed in Tijuana. You probably won't be able to go swimming, but you should feel well enough to go to the zoo. They have a fabulous zoo in San Diego! -
thinking of being banded

Where can I get a quality lap band surgery at the lowest price?
mistyone replied to Emily's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mexico is a great option. Just make sure you do your homework. Don't just shop price. I wanted a surgeon that does surgery in a hospital and not a clinic. Most importantly look at the surgeons credentials. I had my surgery with Dr. Valencia in Tijuana. The cost was $8,100. He also does surgery in Ensenada for $8000. He is a professor of bariatric surgery at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). That was the main that reason that I chose him. When you start eating solid food, if it gets stuck you will PB or throw it up. It sounds worse than it is. You have to take small bites and chew very well. Sometime we forget but you'll learn after a little while. -
I'm so happy to hear you found a doctor you're happy with! I agree with finding a doctor that feels follow up is important. It's essential with a band! Luckily I've received great follow up care. An assembly line might be good for some things, but NOT for surgery! Welcome to the land of the banded!
