Help Me, I'm turning into a Snackasaurus!!
mistyone replied to Mischievous1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sometimes I chew gum and the craving to snack goes away. At least for a while. -
Gosh! I think a lot of us suffer from depression at one time or another. It seems to me is should be a co-morbidity. I also felt a little depressed after surgery like I also was mourning the loss of food!

I was very happy with Dr. Valencia. Gee, I hadn't heard about it being unsafe in Tijuana. I had mine in Tijuana, but maybe if I had heard this before I went I might have had it done in Ensenada! :fear: Dr. Valencia also does surgery in Ensenada. He most definitely has the best credentials I've seen of any doctor in Mexico. Happy hunting!

I have to agree with mattintosh here. I had a great experience with my doctor. I wanted to go to Tijuana and didn't pick Dr. Kuri or Ortiz and that was one of the reasons. But the main reason was that no one had the credentails that could compare to my doctor. Good luck!

Pleas help me pick a Mexican Doctor, I need your help !!!!!!!!!!!!!
mistyone replied to jdhj861jr's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Don't base your decision on price alone. Do lots of homework and make sure you feel comfortable with your choice. I went to Dr. Valencia and was very happy. I wanted to pick someone that had strong connections to medicine in the United States. He was not the cheapest, but he was also not the most expensive. I thought the price was very reasonable for the care I got and the hospital was top notch. Good luck! -

mistyone replied to jdhj861jr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of people have to go by themselves. I stayed 2 days in the hospital and was released to go directly home. I didn't stay alone in a hotel. I was very happy with my doctor. He teaches at UCLA and I was very comfortable with him. -
I found this site with lots of information about different weight loss surgeries procedures and compairing lap band. Their is also some information about how depression effects us too. I thought maybe people here would be interested. I learned a lot. Obesity Help Blog

Don't choose by price alone. Your first considerations should be credentials. I used Dr Valencia. No one in Mexico can compare to his credentials! Beware of doctors telling you they have done thousands of bands. Many of them inflate their numbers greatly! Dr. Valencia is a professor of bariatric surgery in the U.S. and is very ethical - phone # is 877-765-8446. He also uses only 4 tiny incisions. That was another big plus for me. Good luck to you!

Did anyone get there lap band done in mexico?
mistyone replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to Dr Valencia in Mexico. The hospital was better than any hospital I have seen in the U.S. Dr. Valencia does the surgery using only 4 tiny incisions. He also is a professor at UCLA. I would recomend him to anyone! His website is ww.alighterme.com and the phone number is 877-765-8446 -
Any doctors that remove band and do revisions
mistyone replied to bonjeanie's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Most surgeons don't do the mini gastric bypass. I've heard that the reason is because there have been a lot of complications and it's not very affective. The VSG is the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. A lot of people have switched to that surgery after having problems with their band. From where you live, I suggest looking into Dr. Pleatman. He has the best sleeve and bypass self pay prices in the U.S. You can find out if they have a package. Call 877-765-8446 www. alighterme.com and find out. -

If you have insurance you can check with your insurance company to see who is in their network. If you don't have insurance, there are some good doctors with good self pay prices. Where do you live? -

There was a recent death reported on the pacific northwest bandster board on Yahoo. The cousin of the women that died posted about it. She went to Dr. Kuri in Mexico for surgery. I think it happened a couple of weeks ago. Barbara
