Hi Neives. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 12th too (we are in this together scalingdown08). Today was my seventh day of a three week pre-op diet. Not so bad for me. My surgury is out patient. I will be there for about 4 hours total. I am from Albuqerque New Mexico and having my procedure done in Houston Texas. The surgery is on Friday and I am staying in Texas until Sunday. Heck.... I have to be back at work on Tuesday - keep your fingers crossed for me

Hi Kara. My name is Becky. I have been battling my weight for many years now (39) and not doing very well in the war. I began researching the band online and learned a lot. I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and no one does the procedure here. I am flying to Houston Texas to have it done. I am paying for the surgery myself and feel very blessed that I can do that - with the help of my loving family. I knew I needed to do something about my weight and I knew that I did not want to go the gastric bypass route. Just didn't seem right for me. After all of my research, I knew that I wanted to have lapband surgery. I flew down to Houston on August 13th for my initial consultation and my surgery is scheduled for Spetember 12th. I am so excited. You are certainly at the right place to learn all about the lapband. This site has answered soooo many of my questions, addressed the concerns that I have, and the people here are SOOOOOOOO nice and supportive!! It is nice to talk to people who know EXACTLY what I mean. The procedure lasts about an hour, if even that. People who have gastric bypass lose weight very quickly... and usually lots of it. From what I have read, the lapband is different. Most people lose it slower - which I think is better. I'm sure there are many factors involved in whether people have to have cosmetic surgery after they are at goal - age, amount lost, your body... etc., but I know I've read a lot of posts from people who have lots large amounts that have not needed it. I have also read that MOST people do not experience much pain afterwards. Side effects or complications for this surgery are the same as any other surgery - of course things can happen. But when I weighed the risks I am taking getting banded with the risks of continuing carrying this weight around - and probably more, I did not have to think about it for very long. The people on here who have had complications say that if they had it to do over again, they would still have the surgery. I'm sorry this is so long and I certainly don't want to seem like I think I'm an expert - I am FAR from it. Keep visiting Lap Band Talk and I'm sure you will see the same questions and concerns you have on here. Good luck to you and your husband. If you have any easy :w00t: questions that I can answer, feel free to ask.

Your story is wonderful and I do wish you luck!!! It sounds like you are really ready for this. Working on some of the issues about why you are where you are puts you far ahead of many. I'm not sure how old you are but I am sure that you are a wise woman. Again... good luck!! I'd love to keep up with your journey and your progress!! Becky -

You guys probably think I sit up nights thinking up goofy question - nope - they come easily to me :biggrin2: I read or heard somewhere that you can get a card after you have been banded and in most restaurants it will allow you order from the kid's menu. Also... 25% off at Souper Salad. Anyone know anything about this?

MissBS replied to jmegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Hollis at True Results is doing mine. Who did yours?? Everything turn out ok?? Fun things to do in Houston while we are there before surgery??? Thanks!!! -
Hi. My doctor said that I could have sugar free fat free Jello pudding during my pre-op diet. I can find sugar free in the stores. Is there such a thing as sugar free AND fat free that you can buy or does that mean you have to make it with skim milk. Also after surgery, I have read both skim milk and lowfat milk - I can do 1% but skim is kinda like white water to me. If I have to do skim I will. I'm sure my doctor will tell me when I go down for my procedure but I was wondering what you all know about this. Also - after surgery - cereal??? Thanks in advance for your replies!! I love this site!!!

I keep reading about fills with fluroscopy and fills without fluroscopy. I have no idea what this means. Can anyone help me?

Thank you all very much. I am not planning on ordering chicken fingers and fries but some of the places that my family eats at have children's portions. I will take home half if I am headed home but I will ask my doctor about the card. Again - thanks for the replies!!! Becky

Surgery Postponed?!! Anyone
MissBS replied to todoornottodo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for the 12th of September and I have the same concern. Several people on here have said that they have had their procedure postponed and now I am worried about that. I am on day 5 of my 3 week pre-op diet and following it very closely. Maybe hearing those stories has helped me to be super good!! Good luck to you. -
Hi. I am well over 200 lbs. so I can't answer those questions, but I am having my procedure done through True Results in Houston and I have been very happy with them. They are quick, efficient, helpful, and very nice!! Good luck to you!!

How exciting!!! I will be thinking about you tomorrow. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing. -
Hi auntlucy. Who makes the bullets and where do you get them. I've never heard of them and I'm making a list of post-op hints. Thanks!!

I hate the insurance world. I think they make it so hard that they hope people will just say "forget it". Makes me mad and sad. They don't take care of people the way I think they should. Let me know how it goes and good luck to you.

It's not bad for you is it? I know too many x-rays are not a good thing. Sounds better than just doing it and hoping. Thanks for your reply. Going to look at your jewelry now Becky
