Need your advice and thoughts, banded 3 weeks ago today...
shelbymooy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I am banded finally. I do this because I can't stand living with diabetes anymore. I got it after pregnancy and it stayed. I lose 9 lbs in two weeks, and now I have moved to mushies. I have been using lose it, and it says I am allowed 1587 calories to lose 1.5 weekly. I have always been under that daily. I definitely feel the restriction, and I am eating way less than before or desire too. So I am weighing myself once a week now in the morning, and it says I gained 5 ounces. Now I know most people will think I am being paranoid. My doctor has already changed my insulin a little. Am I expecting ridiculous results at a consistent 4.5 pounds a week? When I checked the scale, I kind of freaked and am questioning things. I currently weigh 202 and am 5'5. -

Day 6 and finally feeling good...I don't mean physically
shelbymooy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So tomorrow will be a week and I am so thrilled to say as of this morning I have lost 4.5 pounds. For what seemed like forever (2 days) I had only lost 2 pounds. I am the "I want it now girl" and know that is not realistic. It's like although I will allow myself healng time, my head is ready to go with all going on, party planning and more. Whoever is new like me, stay busy. Stay focused and it sounds like the results will follow. Happy there is no more chest pressure or bloating but I do have to say I can't imagine getting a fill when I feel restriction. Yes the broth diet was torture but now there is an end in sight! -
So awesome. Congrats.

Do you think people with less weight to lose and a lower BMI lose it slower?
shelbymooy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a BMI of 34, and have only lost 3lbs since being banded 5/04/10, while another person I know banded the same day has lost 8lbs, and is like 300lbs. I had a tinge of jealousy for a quick second... Thanks -
Can someone explain to me the differences in band size, and why we get one?

So my father in law was banded for 3 years and nothing happened. We believe he cheated. Now he had Gastric and lost 95 pounds. I was talking to him, and he said they put too big a band in him. It was the 10cc. I am confused by the different sizes and who gets what, and why? -
On what day POST OP did you start excercising?

Other than walking, what kind of plan did you follow and why? -

OMG, you poor thing. I thought I was not handling it. I was banded on 5/04/10 and luckily for me I am doing better than I was. I was banded in Mexico and have had no issues except that pressure on my chest which is gone today. I was one of 6 banded that day, and for a second I was jealous because a new friend already lost 8 lbs and I am only at 3 lbs. As the previous poster said, ordering that soup did wonders. Since my date I went on date night with my husband and had soup out, and tonight I ordered Won ton soup, minus all the stuff. I was soooo thrilled on day 4 to get Cream of Wheat, I think it was all I was thinking of. Hang in there. I normally haven't posted alot but read alot from my iphone, and I have to tell you that has helped sooo much. Since everyone is different, no one can give you the exact answer, but just know your on your way. Live life to the fullest everyday, and something I like to drink is Powerade Zero and Crystal Lite. Send me a message if you want to chat. -
I'm just not sure...

OMG, that sounds like my story...I had planned this for 2006 after my beautiful baby was born and Diabetes stayed. I was given all these hoops, and thought I had everything ready. My husband changed jobs, and they couldn't schedule me before the insurance expired. It was such a mess. I was totally not happy, and couldn't get the credit since I have alot of student loans, and am on my second degree. A year ago, I started talking to a rep of a doctor in Mexico. I have the money, and surgery date and feel extremely excited and comfortable about this. My surgery date is May 4th, and my husband is going with me while my family holds on to our toddler girls. The various ways that all my immediate family has helped get this together is amazing and validates I am doing the right thing. If I waited for America, I would not be getting ready for this. On Saturday night I did the last ride I needed to ride on top of the Stratosphere, Insanity, the swings, and the emotion, and excitement took over me. I have a bucket list, and crossed another thing off of it. May you find the drive to see this through, and don't hesitate to take things into your own hands. -
Just found this site, and am excited. I live in Las Vegas and happily married, 35, and have so much to love and live for. After 10 years of trying we finally (with no help) got pregnant. We have two awesome little girls, ages 1 and 2. During my pregnancy I got gestational diabetes, and after the first baby it stayed. I am devastated by this, and decided on my own to stop taking my insulin. It has been a couple of months.. I guess I am in denial. I am a smart person that is on her second degree, studies include business law etc. I am well traveled and yet I feel like a dummy. I think my after I knew my daughters were safe and healthy, I feel like I am in the clear so to speak. Last year I looked into Gastric and the Lapband. I did all my work, pshyce evaluation, nutritionist, EKG, blood work...unbelieveably enough the idiot doctor's office I was seeing knew I was approved but did not bother to mention that their office was not on the Center of Excellence list. I had about 5 weeks to scramble and see where I could go, as I was approved. Time ticked away, and noone could do the surgery in such a hurry. Now my new insurance wants years of appointments and documentation even though I already was approved. My current place is that I am thinking of going to Dr. Ariel Ortiz and paying cash. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am happy to be here and talk to all of you.... Gambling nights in vegas...
