Question for those who lost weight fast.
chicamam1 replied to j_holm07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
congratulations on your loss!! I am only one month out and have lost 35 pounds. That is a pretty good start, however im noticing now even tho im eating small portions three times a day and only snack is a v-8 to get in my veggies i barely eat. im crawling. however. i did start walking and have lost three pounds this week, didnt walk last night and went up by .3 pounds. My opinion is once i get to goal which is along way away lol. but hey im 1/4 there lol. is to ensure to keep up on fills if needed and watching any weight gain and even if a 5 pound fluctuate to call the doc right away. that is my plan anyhow. i am determined to keep this weight off for life!!!! Today is hard because we are having a sweet potluck with all sorts of desserts. I just made sugar free jello to take with light fruit mix. i will have some.. anyhoo back to subject. this is the best decision i ever made ever ever. i love my band. i havent even had a fill and i cant eat very much at all. im hoping with my first fill , it will give me good restriction. crossing fingers. im not worried about the regain later down the road because for me its all about upkeep for a lifetime. -
does anyone have any regretes or overall happy
chicamam1 replied to keishonda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i love love love love love my band. omg i love it. really.. ive lost more weight than i have in my entire lifetime in one month. its all about the mindset tho. it really has to be there.. im so grateful my grandparents gave me this oppurtunity. they covered my surgery and any future expenses in full. ugh i tear up thinking about it because its just such a lifechanger for me. i love them so dearly. does this mean i dont miss eating cheeseburgers alot? no i still miss then but i dont miss it more than i miss being healthy. and that is whats it all about for me. to become more healthy to see my kids grow up and have a long life with my husband and family. sure we dont know what will happen in the future but this will eliminate one risk factor for that not happening. and a big risk it was. ok so anyway sorry to ramble but i dont have any regrets. i love my band so much... -
kashi go lean and oatmeal, cream of wheat are on my list. as far as breads Pasta etc, i am to avoid them as much as possible. I am also watching my carbs, but the carbs i do drink knowingly is a v-8 i have for my snack before l lunch. The surgeon recommended melba toast to eat instead of soft bread because its twice baked and less to expand in your stomach

How did you decide your goal weight?
chicamam1 replied to gingerbug's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I decided my goal weight of 145 because i have a bigger structure and was really healthy at that weight in high school, also very fit. i was wearing between a 6-9 in clothes abd had quite a bit of muscle. I have been overweight since i was 19, so really this is all i can go by. I cant wait to reach it. -
1 month out, GRRRR Stuck and not food!
chicamam1 replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i had the same issue around my period. there were two very stubborn weeks. where my weightloss slowed quite a bit. last week nada lost.. however my period ended i started excercising and two pounds came off since two days ago. i eat probably less than800 cals a day. and ive been walking on my treadmill for 20 minutes at diff paces for 5 min each. its a start i hope. anyway. period time can really mess with your numbers for real. -
What does restriction feel like?
chicamam1 replied to ricky t's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
restriction to me is this. Of course i havent been filled yet tho. but I can only eat about 4 oz before i start feeling full. and i mean the full you feel in your belly where its like. one more bite and ill toss it. i have been trying to measure out now only 3 oz and sticking to that. -
this site is very helpful and supportive. its my support group right now for sure. Congrats everyone on your upcoming surgeries or those of you in surgery today. its an exciting experience. So many people feel so differently after surgery. but we all are excited about one thing. Our new journey with our lapband. its a wonderful thing surely. Best things i took to surgery was gas x, my jammas, slippers, and nice comfy pillow. good luck and please keep me updated on your progress.

Did anyone weigh in pre op vs post op ???
chicamam1 replied to VEEJEE07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep i did the same thing. 7-8 pounds up and i was like great. i gained back almost all of the 13 pounds i lost preop first week!! grrr. however the weight dropped off the first week postop and i was back to surgery weight of 261.. it is from liquids and gas and its normal. no worries. it will come off. -
Does anyone also have MS who has had lapband surgery?
chicamam1 replied to Friend2U's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I havent been officially dxd just possible ms. Been testing for quite some time now still with no dx. cant say it is for sure or not, but my symptoms are, facial spasms including tongue and cheeks, leg weakness with pins and needles in legs with popcorn spasms, uncontrollable movement of my toes, spasms in neck and arms. etc etc. I used to get sensations where i felt half blind and the top of my head felt numb. I cant say im in the same boat but im still waiting to see whats wrong with me. Everyone was hoping my weight loss would remove the symptoms, and maybe i havent lost enough but after 32 pounds. things are the same. with some days being worse than others for sure. Anyhoo, we went ahead with the band while i was still undiagnosed because well ,we just dont know for sure, and the risk of me staying obese was a danger to my life for sure. after 32 pounds i feel better exercising like being able to walk for at least 20 min. which i will do everyday. keep me updated on your progress -
i have lost thirty pound but for the last two weeks its been a struggle at the scales. I need to work out more this I know. I dont know if its because i am on my period now, ( had bloating since about a week and half ago) blah... I noticed last weekend my breath got really gross and i dropped 3 pounds in that weekend.. however im still teetering back and forth now between 243 and 244 this week. with only like a half pound lost. I think if I kick up my workout that will help out as ive only walked a couple times last week...

this morning i measured what i ate and it was 2 and half oz of scrambled eggs with salsa verde, and 1/2 oz of black refried beans. I tend to get more hunger in the evening so for some reason i tend to eat more than but this is what my breakfast and lunch portions look like. my surgeon suggested 2 oz of protien and 1 oz of veggies at every meal avoiding bread, pasta all together since they expand in your stomach. I sometimes can eat up to a half cup

How do you get 60g of protein in a day?
chicamam1 replied to cynw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there is a protien drink called grand slam that has 50 g of protien in it. i believe its a 20 oz shake and doesnt taste that bad. I believe its from gnc. The other thing my surgeon suggested was to take in 3 oz of protien every hour to hit that 60 g mark. i hope that helps -
Typical Daily Meal Ideas
chicamam1 replied to shelly1066's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im calculating two ways. One, my surgeons gave me a protien list to see where a 3 0z serving of certain meat would be protien. I know chicken breast is about 20 grams per 3 oz, turkey around 22 g I read labels when I shop to ensure a serving that i eat will give me at least 15 grams of protien. Tuna has about 26 grams per serving. Then eat servings of low fat cheese I add in is around 6 grams of protien, etc etc. you can calculate per meal but watching how much protien is in the food your eating. I guess basically, I really just keep watch over the labels to ensure what im eating is going to at least give 15 grams each time. It is really easy when you are eating healthy meat because just the peice of meat will hit that 15 grams for you. some things high on my protien list are. chicken, turkey, beef, shrimp, oysters, lobster, clams, pork for me its all about meat meat meat and then a little veggies, or taters -
i was banded on the 15th and when i came home tuesday evening and weighed myself, I was 7 pounds more heavy than i was the day of surgery. Today which is two days after surgery, im still the same. Did anyone else go through this as well and know what it is caused by??

Typical Daily Meal Ideas
chicamam1 replied to shelly1066's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, this is what my daily meal plan looks like 7:00 am- scrambled better than eggs, with fatfree, or low fat cheese, with meat added such as turkey chicken etc.. abouty 1/2 cup 8:45 am- drinking 20 0z of Water between this time and 11:00 11:00- small snack such as tuna salad with fat free mayo 20 oz of water with crystal light in between 1:30- Meat such as chicken, turkey etc with small side of veggies, about 1/2 cup ( really good with gravy on it, i bought some gravy that has zero fat 30 cals and 0 carbs and protien  between 2:30 and usually 6:30, I have one more bottle of 20 oz water 6:30pm- meat such as chicken, turkey, turkey ground, with veggies and some sauce to moist the meat. about 1/2 cup sometimes i sub veggies for mashed taters very rare tho. and i ensure to get most of my bites from my meat. IM at least getting 60 grams of protien a day which i think helps a lot. sometimes i also eat Beans such as refried black beans or reg beans with low fat low fal mild taco sauce and a tiny bit of cheese. -
my best advice to you I work at an insurance company, Iwould call and see exactly why its pending and for how long, I would ask them how long their preauth process takes and if there is anything you can help to submit to mak ethe process go by any faster. You want to ensure if its provider information they are waiting on. to hound your provider to get that information in. we only do benefit advisories but they only take 2-3 business days to review so definatly stay on top of it and im sure it will all be fine.

thank you for your post. I have been making very health choices and have also eaten the best I have in my whole life!! Im not banded ( i meant to say not filled blah) lol yet but so far nothing has caused me discomfort but that might change when i get my first fill. funny thing is tho almost 4 weeks out i get full between 4-6 oz im not complaining at all lol. your right, we shouldnt be ourself up. thank you for posting that. its not like i have prime rib everyday lol. mostly chicken turkey fish etc, healthy choices. the funny thing is when i upped my calories, i kicked in the weight loss again. before i was only eating about 400-600 cals a day. my goal now is 800-1000

Do things really taste differently? How so?
chicamam1 replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
the thing that tastes the worst for me is unflavored water. I have to have a crystal light in it. it takes very metallic because my breath is icky right now. I dont like tuna very well either. it gets too gritty chewing it too much. yuck. but i eat it once in awhile because it has great protien. -
trust me, we all do this, we are not perfect at all. I cant tell you how much for me its been hard. my hubby and i went to my fave restie, and i had blackened prime rib. not the best choice andddd. im not supposed to eat red meats until 6 weeks but i have been. I havent had any stomach issues, but still. Then here is the biggie ok??? we went to the movies and I had about 15 peices of popcorn which is on the no no list too. man that stuff is sooo baddddd for you... I didnt have any issues eating one at a time but still. sigh.... we all screw up. I have been craving tacobell like mad. if a crunchy taco is only 140 cals maybe ill consider it. I dont know. sigh..... dont beat yourself up. I didnt feel too guilty only because ive worked my butt off for the last month. However, i cant afford to make it a daily habit. I like to eat out alot that is my downfall. I found the best fishmarket place that grilled me up halibut with cajun tartar and whole black beans. yum. they only charged me 3.00 bucks. I know where im eating now if im going out

Major Milestones, but Embarrassed
chicamam1 replied to food expert's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i was pushing 275 when i started with my one week pre op diet. I havent really told anyone my weight out of embarrassment. My grandma asked and I told her when I weighed 265 because they paid for the surgery and I felt I owed them that. This Sat, I finally told my husband my weight for the first time ever!! I told him I was pushing 275, and have lost 30 pounds now down to 244. I am proud of my weight loss but my # is still embarrassing to me as I have along way to go. For me personally, it was about battling the bulge and that pschycological battle. I felt better telling him and he was proud of my accomplishment so far. I told him all my little goals i have lol. and he said the sweetest thing to me... sortof. He said one thing he noticed since the process is my breath stinks rofl. I said well, thats awesome because that means im burning fat. He said he doesnt mind but wanted to tell me for work purposes. So i bought some sugar free purposes. I like that we were so honest with eachother then. makes me feel more connected to him somehow. only for me personally. There are so many i wouldnt tell my weight to, just uncomfortable to do so.
