  1. That's actually great to know! I hear adding muscle helps as well. What did you change while at your low weight to help the rapid weight loss appearance

    Mango juice?

My plan with Kaiser says no. I'm 41 days out in stage 5 & they still advise to not drink any sugary calorie filled drinks.
  3. So glad you broke your stall! I'm 1 week into mine but I lost an inch so I'm not too worried!
  4. I did watch a video from a surgeon who said most obese people tend to look better when they weigh 15-20lbs more than their lowest goal weight. I've been thinking about that for a while because my goal is to be on the thinner side & this reminded me of that. This post does come off harsh & I feel a bit bad but I understand where you're coming from. I'm glad she's happy however!
  5. I just checked my Bariatric support book & it only mentions the shape & consistency to be what you have to look out for. It seems color varies for everyone! (assuming it's not jet black or bloody)

    hello! Welcome & good luck!

    Shirt size

That's awesome! I haven't bought any new clothes yet. Thanks to the oversized clothes trend I've been wearing my men's 2x shirt like a dress lol. I'm sooo excited to hopefully be able to buy from the 'straight size' section in stores! In women's sizes I'm a 1x, which is in most stores but my goal is to be a medium/large. It has to feel amazing to be able to just walk into a store & KNOW everything there is an option
  8. LOL this happens to me with pajama pants & I always think "imagine how crazy itd be if this happened in public"😭 I would be embarrassed! I hope everyone acts like it never happened hahaha
  9. My consultation was very simple/easy as my Dr was the one who brought up the surgery during an appointment about struggling with regular weight loss. We already knew I qualified. However the heavy stuff was in the 10 week class I was in (with Kaiser Permanente) they go over everything & anything! If you get the option to take classes, PLEASE take them, they are extremally helpful. My initial appointment was in May of this year & my surgery was 5 months later in Sept!

    Travel food suggestions?

I saw people already gave great food ideas but what helps me is using a bento box! I have the Kinsho mini Bento Box (like the one pictured) so you can take your own small meals & not get tempted by the gas station/airport junk food.
  11. I find powder protein shakes to be a lot less chalky & thick than premade ones. I like the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard protein powder in Extreme Chocolate Milk. It tastes like kids chocolate milk I would get at the school cafeteria. Its so much easier to drink!

    Surgery today! Nov 3

Yes! No one ever prepared me for the excess bubbles whenever I ate/drank something. I'm a month out & it still kind of happens! Good thing it doesn't hurt or anything. Hope you're good!

    Struggling

I really struggled during my 2nd week. I did something that I'm not proud of (chew & spit) because I found my liquid & puree stage to be very difficult. All I wanted was REAL food. However once I was able to switch to soft foods those thoughts started to go away & I felt much more content with what I was eating. the soft food stage brought back the normalcy I needed. I hope that helps you too. Just keep pushing!

    Thanksgiving 🦃

I am going to try to have just turkey with a bit of gravy & a small portion of ham. I still want to keep my protein intake high! I'm only being 1mo out means I don't have much space for the fun carbs yet. buuuut I do hope to find a bit of space for some pie later in the night!
  15. sigh. I was in the hospital for 4 days. I swore I wasn't going to be one of those people who had to go to the ER bc I've been getting all of my fluids, protein, vitamins, etc but one of my medications made my blood pressure shockingly low. I couldn't even stand up & walk without almost passing out. dad had to call 911 to take me to a local hospital. All that work just for a medication to set me back. Plus the hospital food was NOT great in terms of protein. They served a lot of ground beef dishes which was a shock to my system. Back home now & gonna get back on track

    Surgery today! Nov 3

Congrats!! Hope today has gone well for you! Hope you're feeling okay post-op. Keep us updated!
  17. ok I see what you mean now. I was in the same boat! I did not fully feel the restriction until I switched to soft solids. I don't feel pain but I feel a bit of pressure when it goes down. if anything we're lucky! Don't worry about it too much, the liquids & purees are -suppose- to be the easiest. You may feel your restriction once you graduate to solids/more foods.
  18. Look up Youtube videos of the Ricotta Cheese Bake! It seems to be one of the more popular puree recipes online as it tastes like you're having a cheat meal. I feel this is one way to enjoy yourself on a special holiday!

    Almost there

Congrats! During my last appointment my Dr warned me that a lot people get comfortable & allow themselves cheat days that tend to halt their progress. Remember, these days in between still count! I'm sure you already know that but I can't imagine the heartbreak when their approval gets revoked due to a few moments of joy. Stay strong, stay committed & keep hustling!!! 💜
  20. I am surprisingly nervous about it! I have not seen most of my family since I weighed much more & I just know they're going to be VERY extra when I see them lol. My grandma in particular is going to freak out lol. I wont see them till February of next year so I still have time to lose even more. Hoping I'll be close to 130ish by then! ALSO HAPPY DAY OF SURGERY!!!
  21. I'm 1 month & a week out & I had 0 trouble drinking & eating especially in my liquid & puree stage. Everything went down smooth & I had no pain. I would say that's the ideal situation. Or do you mean you're eating large amounts without problem? Do you know how many ounces of food you're eating?
  22. I bought a Kinsho Mini Bento Box (attached their photo to show size) & it's PERFECT for small meals out. so far I've used it for boiled eggs, slices of turkey, grilled chicken strips, making cottage cheese based ranch/queso sauce, & soft fruits! I'll add pretzel thins & veggie straws etc when my diet allows it. I'll be using it at the movie theatre as well just so temptation doesn't get to me. highly recommended!

    Antibiotics after VSG?

My doctor approved for me to go back to Doxycycline (antibiotic for a skin condition) yesterday & I'm 1 month post op. I'm no Dr but I assume you'll be fine as well!
  24. OMG this just made me try crossing my legs for the first time since I lost my weight. I never crossed my legs bc it was difficult & uncomfortable. Now I can!! I'm glad I saw this
  25. I was expected to leave same day but I stayed 1 extra day because my anemia started acting up & they wanted to make sure I didn't have any internal bleeding going on (even tho I know it happened bc I stopped eating so many iron rich foods in my pre-op diet) My tips: don't wear normal fitting clothes. Wear clothes that are extremely loose on you! Because of the gas they pump into you my pants felt tight! It was very uncomfortable in the ride back home. Also take a throw pillow for when you walk to the car to compress your incisions. It'll help stop the pain! Also don't forget your phone charger. I did & I regretted it lol
