  1. Yep! My mom likes to help with my food planning, when I first started eating chicken again I mentioned how it tasted too salty. She said "what do u mean, I added almost no seasoning salt on your piece" Now when she tries one of my pieces she mentions how bland it is but its delicious to me! I'm Hispanic & we thrive on well-seasoned foods, so the fact that almost none is delicious to me now is nuts to my whole family lol
  2. My fingers are prettier. While typing on my phone I noticed my thumb looks thinner & longer. My brother visited for the first time in months & he said "even your hands look different" like wow, i have lady hands now lol
  3. I'm so glad this thread was bumped up because Ive had these! They'd usually be at a buffet, I'll eat a TON & suddenly remember that I had the surgery & think that I ruined everything. I guess it comes with thinking about food almost all day

    Snacking at night…

Brushing my teeth sometimes works, but when it doesn't I'll grab one serving of turkey slices (with good flavoring so they're more satisfying) & that usually gets rid of the cravings for me. Also someone here recommended frozen chicken strips (grilled) & I've been loving those for a quick hot protein snack. Just a few satisfy that need to just EAT something for me. Quest Double Chocolate Chunk protein bar is soooo good & VERY filling! my main advice is to stick to protein based snacks. Grab one serving, put the rest away & enjoy. Guilt-less snacking is definitely possible!
  5. I broke my stall! I weighed 183 since Oct 26 & this morning I'm down 2lbs. Soooo happy! Almost down 20lbs since surgery.
  6. I am not plant based but I do eat nice amount of vegetarian substitutes for red meats! they still have a nice amount of protein. I like the brand Morning Star (I think some of the items are vegetarian & not vegan however)
  7. I talked to my doctor about this & you CAN drop your shakes as long as you're able to still replace that protein w something else!

    Post Op Bra Size

I've been wearing nothing but comfy sports bras for the past 2 years. I dont even know my size rn & I kind of like it that way. I'll figure it out if I have to wear something nice somewhere haha
  9. Well, I finally found a food item that took me a longer time to finish. A Quest Protein bar. It has 4 NET Carbs, meaning it has more carbs than that but the Fiber in it cancels that out. & wow those carbs really slowed me down. It took me 35 minutes to finish the bar which is the longest its taken me to eat anything post op. I bought these to use a regular protein source but since I struggled a bit with them I think I'll save them when I'm further in my journey.
  10. I live in a city that focuses a lot on beauty & looks, & I've met people who have gotten the mini bypass & mini sleeve. However they were women who got it while their bmi is under 30 & wanted to get rid of those last few lbs so they look better. I believe most people I met or heard about getting it got it in Mexico as they're obv would not be approved here. I know this doesn't answer your question but I find it fascinating that the only-slightly-overweight do this too lol

    Weight loss stalls

The '3 week stall' happens to many! You will get out of it as long as you follow your plan. I'm gonna paste a great reply made by @SpartanMaker in a different post that explains why you may be stalling!

    What insurance is fastest ?

I'm with Kaiser & was immediately approved but the classes, appointments, tests, test & more tests is what take the longest. My process was 5 months. The time is kind of out of our control

    How much food?

I'm a month & 2 weeks out & I'm able to eat 2-3oz per meal! Right on track according to my Kaiser handbook

    Covid Testing Prior to surgery

Yep, covid test & a pregnancy test. if it means anything, the last few I've gotten have been WAY less miserable than the 2020 tests when it felt like they swabbed your brain lol. It seems they figured out they dont have to go up that far

    Regretting the surgery

YES. The first week was one of the hardest things I've done. Trust me when I say it truly gets better! Your nausea will settle, your body will begin to heal & you will FEEL okay! Hang in there 💜

    Regrets ?

So far my only regret is not trying Indian food before I got my surgery lol. Ive been seeing so many tiktoks w indian food & it looks incredible haha. Other than that, 0 regrets!

    1 Week PO update

I'm glad you're able to recognize that focusing on your weight on the first week isn't ideal. I did not weigh myself at all that first week because we're sooo swollen & healing.

    Passed psych eval!

that's wonderful! a healthy state of mind is so important in this journey so Im happy for you

    Longer wait than I wanted!

WOW that wait is as long as my pre-op entire bariatric journey was! Shame smaller areas have less access to care. But I do like the fact that you're using this wait to lose more weight! that's a positive way of looking at it
  20. I'm glad some of these changes arent permanent!!
  21. I was warned about food tasting different post-op but I did not expect flavors to change so much! I'm 41 days out & I ate teriyaki chicken from one of my favorite spots. I snuck a piece of orange chicken & suddenly did NOT like it. it tasted too sweet! Also Kraft cheese slices. I grabbed half a slice to to pair with some chicken & it tasted SO weird. I know it was never good cheese but it tasted worse than usual lol. Things in general just taste sweeter & stronger. What about you guys? Also are these taste changes permanent for you?

    Stalls and plateaus

Been 183 since Oct 26th, but I lost an inch around my waist so I'm not too worried about it!
  23. I watched a video of a girl who got phentermine after VSG because she still felt an extreme amount of 'post surgery hunger' - it's a little crazy they're giving you an appetite suppressant!

    OMG I did it!!!!

AMAZING!! congrats!! thats an incredible feat!
  25. Please check with your surgeon. I'm not trans but I have a hormone disorder & had to stop a hormone based birth control & Spironolactone. Granted mine focus on the opposite hormone but you never know if it applies to your shot as well!
